Would anyone be interested in an Airbnb? I've always had excellent experiences. It's usually an actual house and not some anonymous corporate Helltel. There are a bunch in Dayton ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms and the price is competitive with the hotels.

The arty spotting is working fine but the results were not very impressive. When I finally adjusted the fire to be on target (against a Tank group) I was only able to achieve one kill. I think the quantity of rounds in "fire for affect" is 20. According to Google AI, a D-20 152mm battery (which the Egyptians should have had at the time): A Russian D-20 artillery battery, comprising six guns, could potentially fire approximately 30-36 rounds per minute at its maximum rate of fire, with each gun firing 5-6 rounds per minute. Could you increase the quantity to 30 and maybe increase the splash circle? Maybe twice as large. What size gun is the artillery?

DCS JTAC and Tac Commander postions see too much!
Vonrd replied to Flyboy's topic in DCS Mission Builders
In response to the basics of Kermit's post (and particularly Mil(f) Sim. In my opinion it's the age old dilemma / balance of enjoyable gameplay vs complete realistic historical accuracy. How many people would choose the Iraqi side in an event duplicating the First Gulf War, particularly as an airman? You would have absolutely NO chance to even complete a sortie let alone accomplish any mission. Your only choice is to bug out to Iran. I doubt that we will ever see a DCS event based on the Gulf War unless it's PVE with everyone on the Blue side. (Maybe it's been done... I'd like to see the after game comments if it has been). For Flyboy's event it makes more Gameplay sense to give the helicopters and several Redfor aircraft the limited opportunity to be able to hide in the weeds for, at least, some part of their mission. With historical all seeing radar and data links they become just fish in a barrel. The same could be said regarding Blue air forces but Blue has the advantage over Red especially in onboard radar. I think it makes a more enjoyable event if the pilots are given some opportunities to play cat and mouse. -

Sure. I'm hoping that @Snaggle might help out. -
@JGr2-J5_Baeumer is currently working on team balance but it still looks like JG1 / J30 assigned Entente. @Gabi, I don't think that your registration went through since you're not showing on any of the country lists. Maybe we can help you Thurs night practice.

You had proposed using LotATC for GCI. Maybe that would solve the issue? The problem is who has and is competent in LotATC. I have the full version but am not currently competent. @Snaggle is competent but is he available? Any others? -
I think that, for NA anyway, It's Moxy (depending on his availability on the day of event), Maus, Gabby and myself. Some of us will be attending a DCS event on April 12 instead of BA. As of present, we've been assigned Entente.

I think that I might have quoted the Bloody April times incorrectly. The Briefing starts at 19:00 UTC (which is actually one hour past the normal FIF time. For me in Pacific current time, it's Noon). There isn't a defined mission start time. It starts once the Briefing is finished.

Always amazes me how well lots of genres translate so well to bluegrass.

Bumping to encourage sign ups. I'm 90% on going but waiting to work out a possible conflict.

I can't imagine anyone thinking that using Jumo 004s for flight is a good idea. Not only the reliability issue but the rarity and historical significance should negate this idea. Even just ground runs. It would be a shame to grenade one one of those. CJ-610s (used on the smaller Learjets) on the other hand (I think that all of these replicas used that engine) are plentiful and super reliable. EDIT: I just watched Wheels' video of the run-up and apparently they were Jumo's. I still think that it's a bad idea but it's great hearing that sound especially the "chainsaw" APU engine in the nose cone for spin-up! Also, the first video states that there is no intention to fly the Paul Allen aircraft.

I was heavily into slope soaring and F3B until getting married in 2002. Now all flying is virtual. I do miss it some but now, at least, I don't worry any more about destroying things that I had poured lots of $ and effort into.

Is there any way to visually differentiate actual targets from static structures? -

Looking at "Mission Goal Points" structures would be part of the Munitions Factory, North and South Bases, and Comms Center. Is that correct? -

Quote: "Structures from 1-10 points." What structures? Any building, bridge, etc.? Are they specified? How can we know which are actual targets? -

Does anyone have a contact for Kermit? -
Very nice. Too bad they didn't restore it to it's original Dutch service paint scheme. Understandable though.

It's a good engine but be sure to spend a fair amount of time breaking it in. Numerous 5 min runs with full cool down in between (as with any 2 stroke model engine). It did run really strong. I had one of those on a FW-190D9 that I spent a year building. I put all of the details in and had retracting gear and flaps. It was beautiful and won best of show at our club in Rhode Island. It flew well but was heavy due to all of the fancy details. After about 20 or so flights I let it get slow on base to final and did the classic stall / spin. Broke my heart. I carried the remains all the way to California with the thought of re-building but never got around to it. Just a caution about watching the weight on a flying model.

DCS Yom Kippur 2 (fictional) Event - Saturday March 15
Vonrd replied to Flyboy's topic in Public Discussion
"Due to technical difficulties with the ArtySpotter script we had to remove it for this event." I still don't have a good understanding of how to employ helicopter transported ground forces. For example, how close to the target does a mortar team need to be dropped? How does JTAC work? How many teams can be loaded per heli? Are they all hover pick-ups?, etc. I know that you don't want to have the real mission up and available to practice but without anything like a reduced practice mission with some snippets / examples of the missions to become familiar with the mechanics of how things work, I don't know how to issue op/ords. The practices that I've had the time to attend have been frustrating for me due to tech issues both on my part and the mission as well. I'm hoping that it will be up tomorrow (Wed) and Fri in order to get a better handle. If there's anyone else who would like to step up as Commander, I would gladly pass the baton. -
Depicted is a Luftwaffe F-4F-53-MC, 38+66, SN 72-1276, CN 4784 of JG71 painted in NORM 72 camouflage with red rudder, stabilizer tips and fuselage patch to ease identification during air combat training. As photographed during the 1979 Neuburg air show. It would subsequently be one of the Phantoms in the "Phantom Pharewell" send-off celebration on June 27, 2013 at Wittmundhafen Air Base, Germany. All Phantoms were subsequently retired from service with the Luftwaffe. This depiction was based on the default skin "37+36_N72_JG74" with some variation of the camouflage as noted in period photographs of this particular airframe. Some items of note: * All placards / stencils re-done in text and graphic vectors. * Crew given period orange flight suits with appropriate patches and orange flight suit visible in the the first person pilot view. The default command to turn the pilot body on / off is LShft+P. * Crew given period Luftwaffe side caps (garrison caps). * Crew's gloves specified as white gloves by custom args and gloves depicted as worn and grimy. * Engine exhausts darkened to reflect the appearance in period photographs. Colors match the default skin "37+36_N72_JG74" and were kindly provided by Ben_Der. Looks interesting. @Moxy, you had said that you were having difficulties with the default F10 map. Maybe this might help? https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3343634/
