Thanks Geezer!

We've considered running a map 24/7, private and locked to just JG1 pilots. If there was an interest in this, we can definitely explore it.
-
I was really sadden to hear this. Talk about our of left field. RIP
-
Team Commanders, please make sure to remind your pilots via TS before mission start.

Love the map. Your depiction of No Man's Land is really creative. It also really nails down the tremendous loss of life.

That's a very good point. And strangely enough, I think the talk on the Luftwaffe that Kliegmann posted above talks about that dilemma in some detail. The lecturer mentions the "Curse of the Grand Narrative" and the "Tyranny of the Recent". And how those two misconceptions shape public opinion over time. Especially when you start to lose the people who actually lived through the time periods in question. The grand narrative removes all the messy complicated details in the interest of making things easy to understand. And we all tend to over emphasis the recent stuff on our radar because that's the closest material to our current reality. It's a very good point. For example, two common music myths which betray the grand narrative, combined with the push for the recent: Myth #1 - Van Halen invented tapping. Myth #2 - Jimmy Paige was the first person to use a bow on a guitar for Rock Music. You can already see this coming... Eddie never claimed to have invented tapping. He just modified it for himself and his own playing style. And Jimmy Paige (like a lot of other things) borrowed the bow idea from Eddie Paige of The Creation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLPRM12ewr0 In the context of music, this helps explain why radio and commercials and tv and movies and other aspects of media seem to push the same bands with the same songs again and again and again and again. With no exploration of genres. No deep cuts off of well known albums, let alone any air time of lesser known gems off of little known albums. And no attempt to explore the greater tapestry of Rock Music. And as a result, you lose a lot of really great bands.

You're listening to interesting music today. Truthfully though, it's a fascinating lecture. Thanks for posting!

Definitely can't wait to see where you take it!

[FIX] CH Products Control Manager after Windows 10 Creator Update
Klaiber replied to Somnus's topic in Technical Support
Hi All, Here is a report from CH Hanger regarding the CH issues that a lot of us have been having: http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?/topic/8750-concerning-ch-control-manager-in-windows-10-and-comments-made-on-another-forum/ -
Hotlead, if you're flying with CH and have trouble with the Control Manager, here is what I've been doing: http://forum.jg1.org/topic/5375-fix-ch-products-control-manager-after-windows-10-creator-update/?do=findComment&comment=34105 It still has issues every once in a while, but these steps have drastically reduced the issues.

This is fantastic work Geezer! As someone who works in a rare book library, I really love your attention to detail. This type of stuff is my bread and butter.

Hi Heide, Great to hear from you! You're signed up to the Red Team, with the rest of JG1. Regarding setting up ROF, you can download a free copy of the game here: https://riseofflight.com/download/ Once you add your username and password, it should automatically give you access to all of the aircraft you've purchased. The stock game will give you the Nieuport 17 for free, which you'll need for the event. But you'll need to get access to the Fokker E.III, Halberstadt D.II, Nieuport 11 and D.H.2. http://forum.jg1.org/topic/5456-fif-2018-winter-campaign-plane-set/ If you need any assistance, post in the JG1 area of the boards. Talk soon.

I tried it on two accounts. My main one, which has admin access. And a second one I created. Both worked. I'm linking the image like this: [img=https://dl.dropbox.com/s/pah80ynfz2djc0a/VONRD1~1%20small.jpg?dl=0]Could you try this, and let me know if it works? If it doesn't, then we have a bigger problem.

I'm sorry that you're having such troubles. Could you send me the link to the jpg image you're trying to post? I can then try it out, and see what happens. As I've said before, the bmp thing is a known issue. I can't even get them to work. But jpgs should work no problem. You have nothing on your forum account that limits your ability to hotlink images from dropbox or another file hosting website. We'll squash this eventually.

Hi All, Welcome to the International Flanders In Flames Online War! If you have not already signed up in the past, and are a new pilot to FIF, please post below with the following information: Your In-Game Name: [if applicable] Your Squadron affiliation (with squadron website if possible): Your preferred side (Central, Entente or Don't Care): Your timezone: Your post within this thread is very important, as it lets us know who to give forum access to. After posting within this thread, please be patient. It may take up to 24 hours before your request to join a group has been approved. Please note: the two teams in FIF are not affiliated with either in-game side! After a campaign phase, they will swap sides, allowing everyone to fly all aircraft. If you don't get assigned to your preferred side the first time, you'll eventually be rotated to it (usually within 2 weeks). Thanks and Salut! JG1_Klaiber

I think bmp's are bugged for some reason. They're allowed on the forums, but I just can't figure out why they're not showing. I'd try to use PNG or JPG if you can.

Same, got 21 out of 30. I recognized most of them, but completely blanked on some of the artists.
-
I've never really heard anything by Spirit, outside of I Got A Line On You. And of course Taurus (the song Led Zeppelin "lifted" for Stairway). Based on this album, I can tell that's my loss. I'll definitely have to look up more of their discography. Thanks!

I think you've just elevated this thread to new levels. Music quiz! I got 20 out of 24. I goofed on the name of the last one in the 1960s. I called it something else. I missed the first one in the 1970s. And I missed the first and fourth in the 1990s. I knew the fourth in the 1990s, but couldn't think of the name until after I saw it.

Tear For Fears is one of my top 5 favorite bands. Songs From the Big Chair is an amazing album, as is The Haunting. I'm also partial to Raoul and the Kings of Spain. Have you heard any of Roland Orzabal's solo album, Tomcats Screaming Outside? It's very good: My favorite Simple Minds song has always been New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84):
