Yeah, I'm already overclocked to 4.3ish by turbo mode on my mb. I tried going to 5 but I need a new cooling system first.

Just to clarify, our testing mission was the "Alb DV - Hunting Party" mission under Missions->Flying CIrcus Vol1 Scenarios (FC2 only) Several planes, buildings vehicles and trees nearby. My big takeaway from the evening was how much my CPU (I7 8700K 3.7ghz) is bottlenecking my FPS. In casual flight at altitude I was steady at 90 FPS (RTX3090/ HP Reberb G2), but start moving head quickly, or rolling fast, or making tight turns, and I did see a momentary drop of 10-20 FPS in the GPU. However, in the "Hunting Party" mission where you have multiple objects to render I found that my framerate quickly dropped to around 50 fps and the performance graph in FpsVR clearly showed the burden on the CPU as the culprit. The other big takeaway is how baffling the whole idea of SuperSampling is. With OpenXR, SteamVR and three different places to enter a SS value it is difficult to make progress as you don't know how they play together. Also, although Lipfert and I have the same graphic setup, and took careful steps to sync our settings, in SteamVR->Settings->VIdeo my per eye resolution values at given percentages were significantly higher than those Lipfert observed at the same percentages. We could find no explanation for this. Still learning.... still scratching my head.

Cool, I'll be on 7:30ish

I just spent a session with FPSVR and I'm completely baffled by SS %'s. I also have steamvr set to use OpenXR runtime. With OpenXR Dev tools set to 100% SS, and SteamVR set to 150% (global) and 100%( app) , The FPSVR SteamSS value reads 75%. ??? Are you seeing the same thing? I've seen and read so many differing thesis on how NVIDIA, OpenXR, and SteamVR-global/ SteamVR-app supersampling work I'm wondering if anyone really knows. I had thought that OpenXR trumped the SteamVR settings if you were using OpenXR runtime. I've also read a developer note that says SS values in SteamVR are multiplicative i.e. if you have 100% global and 50% app you should get 50%, if you have 50% global and 50% app you would get 25%. But when I had set 100% OpenXR, 100% SteamVR-global, and 50% SteamVR-app I saw "SteamVR SS : 25% in the FPSVR overlay. ???

Interesting. I'm going to give that FPSVR a try. Which open vr runtime have you set in steamvr? I notice you didn't quote a SS value or motion smoothing setting for OpenXR development tools.

It has come to my attention that the PDXII skin that I submitted back on Dec. 10th has a space in the name. Should I resubmit or can that be fixed on the forum?

I thought you were saying yesterday that you used OpenXR in some way? Do you run WMR or WMR for SteamVR?
-
So of the five softwares: WMR, OpenXR, OpenXR Developer tools, WMR for SteamVR , and SteamVR. Do you run all five? Il2 seems to want to always want to load SteamVR so I'm guessing the others have to work with that.
-
Actually I've watched all three of those videos. I I've implemented most of the NVIDIA settings and the registry entry for the virtual screens, But I'm not clear at all about the interplay between WMR, OpenXR, OpenXR Developer tools, WMR for SteamVR , and SteamVR. I'll probably be on Teamspeak this evening 9pm +/- Eastern. Stop by if you're available.

So you turn off motion smoothing in SteamVR and use it in OpenXR Runtime? Does it make a noticeable difference? I'd like to go through G2 settings. I have time tonight if you're available. Currently I have an unexpected problem in that I turned my graphic setting in IL2 way up just to see how good I could get it to look regardless of framerate. It looked better but my fr dropped into the 20s. The frustrating part is that, after pulling my graphic settings back to their starting point, I am only getting framerates in the upper 30s/low 40s where I was in the 60s before the graphics-upping experiment.

Thanks. Sounds like what we would refer to in photography as 'specular highlights'.

A VR setup page on the IL2 forum recommended turning on HDR, but only after disabling 'Bloom' in the startup.cfg. What is 'bloom'?

Where do we get a skin template for these two aircraft in case we want to work on our own skins?
-
This is a long shot, but you might try setting anti-virus exceptions on the il2 folder, or at least the executable.

I have an i7 with intel z370 chipset and still have the problem. I suspect there is more than one cause.
-
Yeah, its strange and varied. I'm going to keep an eye on the connection issue and hope to try the G2 again. I did like it for about 30 minutes Here are a couple of the threads about the issue: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-mixed-reality-wmr-check-will-not-recognise/b5623912-ac71-4ed9-a64c-22bf6e7efe97 https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Accessories/Reverb-G2-briefly-worked-and-now-gives-Error-code-4-1-in/td-p/7903750 Heinrich, thanks for the graphics settings. Having had a brief interlude with WMR I'm still interested to see how it should be set up (assuming I can get the translation )
-
Thanks, but I already shipped it out. The posts I read are definitely G2. A lot of them mention disappointment at having the same problem in G2 that was in the first version.
-
As a matter of fact it was B&H. They are a good outfit. I could have gotten a replacement, but opted for a refund. At the moment I have no way of knowing why I'm getting the error so I don't know if a replacement would change anything.

Got my Reverb G2 on Tuesday. After some struggles with inexperience and sparse instructions I got it working. Mapped out a play area, did some exploring in the WMR cliff house, and finally started IL2 to see how it looks out of the box. Il2 started up, loading WMR and SteamVR, and looked pretty good in the hanger. As I was trying to figure out how to move the menu WMR presented me with an error code 4-1 : usb connection failure. Tried new ports, reboots, connection checks, nothing changed. To make a long story short, there are legions of buyers who have encountered this and other connection error codes (1-4, 7-14). I have yet to read a post that has resolved the issue. Some say they have called HP and been told "it sounds like a cable problem" and were told a new cable would be sent out.... in a couple of months. The weak consensus that I'm picking up is that it seems to be either faulty manufacturing on the usb-c end of the connection cable, or a hardware incompatibility (particularly certain AMD chipsets), or both. Those that don't have the problem like the headset. Those that have a connection problem are screwed. The odd part is that most of the posts I've read talk about seeing the G2 work for a while and then throw the error code (like mine). Once the error starts however it does not go away. I'm fortunate in that I bought mine from a reputable company I do photo business with and they will take it back. I highly recommend doing the same if you want to give the G2 a try.

Ok, thanks! I've matched my game settings and 3d settings (where possible) to yours and we'll give it a try next time....
-
I'm available this morning, but the rest of the day is up in the air. Perhaps the best time to try is one evening during the week?
-
Sure, thanks. How do we start? The symptoms I'm seeing would not suggest a temperature problem to me, but I'm curious to see how you monitor it.

Iooked up the purchase.... it is a ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 TI 11GB Turbo Edition.
