  1. Updated graphics driver for my 1080 ti..... didn't help much/
  2. I decided to give BoS a try while it's on sale. It has given me the opportunity to finally get a shot of the kind of graphic glitch I've been talking about in FC. In the attached shot the layer of green that runs through the gunsight is actually above the plane. From above it appears as normal terrain, until you try to land. The light blue is graphic dead space, and the real terrain is the green layer below the gunsight. A moment before this I had flown directly into trees that appeared to have tops above me, but flew right through them. Ever seen this before? This is actually worse than what I've seen in FC. Is there a cure?
  3. Thanks for the suggestion Tobin. I think I have found a solution to my particular situation. I have all of my game controllers plugged into a hub with individual port 'on' switches. If have them switched off when the computer boots, then turn them on in the same order each time, allowing a few seconds between each port, I don't seem to get the id shuffling. Interestingly, having all of the ports on when the computer boots does not solve the problem. I might try the config file solution in the future, but it seems like it would be hard to keep track of all the config files you might wind up creating (?) S! Jaus
  4. Has anyone found a solution to the constantly changing controller ID's in Win10? I've done some searching and found reference to a third party software that allows you to specify joystick ID's but, as you might expect, the posts are old. I seem to recall hearing mention of a file replacement or the like that cures, or works around, the problem.
  5. Ah, I wasn't aware you have to have mods on in ROF to see skins. Too bad. I wonder if an approved skin can be modified and used?
  6. So, for me the steps were: copy the 2k .dds from FC to ROF (for 4k dds use PS to reduce size to 2048x2048) Then in the ROF copy: use levels in PS to reduce the brightness of the main layers use levels to increase brightness of alpha channel save the .dds
  7. I found the method to get rid of the holes directly in the .dds. You have to considerably brighten the alpha channel in the .dds I used levels to alter the alpha channel thus:
  8. You may be right. My next tests are going to be: cloning over the holes in the .dds, and removing the alpha channel in the .psd and saving a new .dds to ROF.
  9. It looks like skins from FC can be ported to ROF just by copying the skin into the appropriate folder. I did this with my Alb skin and it worked without modification. There were two drawbacks however: The colors as rendered by ROF were much brighter than they appear in FC. I had to reduce the overall luminosity of the .dds considerably to get the colors I had seen in FC. Also, ROF may not be able to handle the effects of the alpha channel from FC. On my skin, areas of high reflectivity appear as holes in the skin. It is noticeable up close, but to me it didn't appear significant in the air. This would probably be fixable with a little work on the .dds in Photoshop.
  10. What is the url/pwd to the unofficial Rise of Flight Teamspeak?
  11. I'll be there. WIll fly whatever is needed.

    ROF v. FC

Yes, individual curves was nice for taming squirrely planes. I used to use offset control curves as a kind of trim against planes with consistent deviation.
  13. With the talk about the Gotha scenario, I went back and made sure that my ROF installation still works and flew a few missions. Is it my imagination or is the AI in ROF way better than the AI in FC? Sure seemed that way last night (not that they killed me, they just took more work ) I know the sounds and visuals are much better in FC, but I sure do miss those old planes.
  14. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the 200hp Halb is the same skin template as the 160, but with late war crosses. If the Halb-au is painted with the black and yellow tail of Jasta 10, should a white border be used to outline the rudder cross so it doesn't blend in with the black?
  15. Are Halb's to be painted with the same Jasta marking (e.g. tail, rudder colors) as the scouts?
  16. I just made a correction to the Albatros skin. Re-uploading now.
  17. I've corrected the names and improved the Pfalz crosses in the submission thread. The Albatros in the zip is probably the same as the one you have. I didn't think you had retained that one as it was submitted during hardlook.
  18. Here are four Central skins for me (actually one skin applied to 4 aircraft) Corrected Dr1 jaus_skins3.zip v_!_JG1_FokkerDr1_Jaus.dds
  19. I'd like to submit this skin. Let me know if I skipped a step in the submission protocol. Update: Heinrich had a couple of suggestions I'd like to incorporate. I'll re-attach when the changes are made. Let's try again..... ! JG1 AlbatrosD5 Jaus Jasta 10_.zip
  20. Success! Even though I removed the modern nvidia plugin from PS, PS still seems to be able to use it. The 8.55 version did install but when you save a file you have to select a different file type (D3D,DDS) to use the older converter. When you select the D3D,DDS file type you get the older converter dialog, and the settings Luftritter posted worked. Thanks for the help!
  21. I googled the 8.55 version of nvidia and downloaded an exe that was clearly labelled 8.55, but it ended up re-installing the 2020.1.1 version. From what I've read it sounds like PS CC doesn't work with the older version of the plugin, and the newer version doesn't work for IL2. I'll try the Dxtbmp.
