  1. Yeah, looked at the video again, and when you got into the turret, you already had control from a previous change in crew positions; and it was not nestled, because that's how it works. Then you tried to take control, but you already had it, so it released control. At that point you said the mouse was not responding; and of course you couldn't nestle to gun sight because you didn't have control at that time. Don't worry, it is confusing, Hotlead explained it to me a long time ago.
  2. You're not nestled to gun sight when you think you are. When that "floating ring" is there, you're NOT nestled to gun sight, so you ignore the sight on the gun, and use the ring. It's like "shooting from the hip" with a gun sight. When you took control, you were already nestled to gun sight; it was aligned. So if you hit nestle to gun sight in that condition, it actually toggles it off. The starting condition of the turret is affected by what you've done previously in that flight. If initially you change crew positions, take control of the turret, and nestle to gun sight, it should just work in that order the first time. Then if you change crew positions back to pilot, and then later in the flight you change crew position back to the gunner, as soon as you're in the turret, you'll already have control, because that was the condition you vacated it in previously. However, the "nestle to gun sight" condition does not "stick", even though you left the turret previously in that condition; even though you'll already have control, you'll need to nestle to gun sight again upon re-entering the turret position. Odds are you're either releasing control at some point when you're trying to take it, or doing the same thing with the nestle function. Also, if you're using a macro to try to do this stuff, it gets screwed up because of the way it works... so don't try to use one.
  3. That is strange. Have you tried NOT nestling to gunsight? Can you shoot accurately using the floating ring? I noticed that Ricky uses that mode occasionally also, and I tried it, and had success also (mainly advantageous as a Central gunner). However, that mode does make it easier to hit parts of your own plane, since your gun is shooting from significantly below your direct line of sight. At one point, I tried to alter my "home" (numpad 5) view for gunners; although it was centered properly, I wanted it to start out at or default to a fully zoomed out (widest FOV). The normal view is somewhat zoomed in when you first take control, and I don't like that, especially if I'm in a hurry to see an inbound attacker. In any case, it seemed like it was working at first, but later it just worked as if I had done nothing to it. So for me, it seems as if I can't change the home view for the gunner by saving a new one. In trying that, I noticed something that I never really thought about too much: when nestled to gunsight, you can move your head around independently from how the gun is slewed. If NOT nestled, your view is controlled by the mouse, when moving the gun only; you can't move your head separately. Like Ricky, I also have the "home" numpad 5 view mapped to my gunner control 4-way hat on my stick; but my need for it has been mainly to get the gun normalized when it get's "lost" (jammed fully in one direction trying to get to where you're looking when you take control, like a stupid robot butting his head against a wall and getting stuck there). It brings the gun back to where you're looking, but I've never had the misalignment problem ever. Can you make a video of the problem? Maybe we'll get some inspiration as to exactly what has changed or happened. One quick thought that screwed with me recently....if you're trying to get something to work that's controlled by the numpad and it won't work, make sure the Num Lock is on (easy to turn off accidentally when hitting 7 or other numbers near it when in a hurry). If you reboot, it should start with it on, but if it doesn't, you might have to figure out why the keyboard state on boot up has changed.
  4. Ah! And, WOW! And of course, THANK YOU for all of your hard work!
  5. Good job fellas- keep up the good work
  6. Maybe you could explain what the point of the picture was, though A lot depends on your browser, apparently; but I sure could tell you how to do it if you were using Chrome....
  7. Well, you got me to take a lot closer look at the Prologue! I didn't realize that those articles were real.... The name "Heinlein" is very interesting of course....no relation, I suppose....but one likes to imagine Such intrigue, all from the beginning; but I missed it all. Consider pointing more obviously for us stupid readers? The plot turned out to be far thicker than I had thought. Like a treasure being discovered! Thanks for the explanation!!
  8. It is very important for all to remember that "soon" is not a function of our commander's control, other than contracting others to do what we need done. Action has been taken long ago, and as we all know, the results of any contract that we may make are not always what we may wish (in fact, most often not what we may wish) I'll give you an example: I had a job, and money to complete that job available, many months ago. That job was to do an extensive trim molding upgrade inside my house. I had a contractor that I knew personally and had worked with before. However, he was "very busy", and although he procured and delivered all of the expensive trim pieces, he gave no date at which he'd be available to install them. In the mean time, I spent the summer finishing all of the wood (meaning staining, hand sanding, and polyurethaning for 3 coats, all of that wood). This all done only in my spare time.... Realizing that my "guy" wasn't going to do anything very soon, I contacted another contractor that a friend across the street knew personally and that others had said was outstanding at doing trim work. He said he couldn't do anything for me within a year (seriously?) To me, that means he's uninterested in doing my job at all (just say so in the first place, please!) At that point I realized that doing it all myself was the only real option. I'm a competent carpenter and have a lot of tools....but installing expensive oak crown molding without ruining one 14-ft. piece that I'd spent many hours on finishing? I was not looking forward to that.... So I researched the web and got a newer, better miter saw for over $350.00....but still far cheaper than a contractor.... And so now I am in the midst of installing "umpteen" feet of crown molding that I finished myself....after having already installed all of the base board, quarter-round, chair rail that was left to install. This crown molding is not small....and it is oak....it does not bend or conform to imperfections at all. I'm learning....I'm learning. But the greatest of this is that you can't count on anybody other than yourself; a thing I learned a long time ago about my cars. In other words, I commiserate with and understand the website delays that Klaiber and Britchot are dealing with. S!
  9. Great explanation and illustration of the problem. I can see that if you have a certain (lower) resolution, you would expect things to become pixelated, and then disappear sooner, if the game is biased to a higher resolution; that would mean that possibly, you could still see the objects if you were running a higher resolution (more pixels available). Every sim is made with a certain, optimum resolution in mind (with respect to RoF, that was undoubtedly 1920 X 1080). If you are below that resolution, things could disappear before they really should. Higher, you could still see them, but you might also see other problems such as "fish eye" effects that would not be there if you were running their target resolution and/or aspect ratio. It would be nice if they would just say "look, this is the resolution the game was made to run at"; and I could understand if it was meant to run at resolutions and aspect ratios that were most commonly available in the hardware market, at that time. Then, if you run something higher or lower, you might see some odd things happen. In general, it would always be helpful to run at the game's "target resolution", just the same as any monitor's "native" resolution. My guess is that they will always use a standard 16:9 aspect ratio and 1080p resolution, until something becomes more the norm. It seems like you've discovered that certain settings in the (current) game work better with the new "4K" standards; that's great to know. But I would not be surprised if the makers defaulted to what most people have now, in order to please the most people. That would mean that you might see the exact same thing at a lower resolution, without seeing any advantage at higher resolutions; that would look strange to folks running higher resolutions. Perhaps they don't want to change to a higher resolution bias until enough folks have bought their game....
  10. Well it somehow screwed things up today, but we got past it. Big thanks to europeans and others who came to help us, even if an hour late! S! We'll catch up with you, tomorrow! (How 'bout we all end this whole DST thing? It's stupid and unnecessary, right?)
  11. Soon! Yes, we hope very soon Soon is good, we love soon
  12. It was just that in the beginning, I thought that the diary had been found in the USA (probably an incorrect assumption)....so I assumed he'd end up there one way or another. However, that's an assumption in some way linked to the number of German people who immigrated to the USA after WWII; not sure how many actually did that after WWI. It is always strange and interesting how the world works out. Personally I am glad for the influx of other nationalities (to the extent that they came here to become a part of the USA, and not become a separate country unto themselves within US borders). I think my own distant relatives showed up here right around the turn of the 20th century, before WWI. What made them come over is unknown to me; it seems like a long way to go in those days, and a big chance to take. As for your new, possible literary project: it can't go far wrong if it has a dog in it What could bring people together more? S! and greatest thanks for your series, Geezer!!!
  13. Hmmm....I thought he would go to the USA.
  14. That was an early problem with RoF too. It wasn't until later and a lot of argument about how far a human can see that they introduced the pixel sized dots. Personally I think it's an entirely better sim that way.
  15. They are going to be absolutely swamped with "suggestions". For FC alone I'd have a bunch.
  16. My sincere thanks for the recognition; it's back to square one for me Congrats to you other recipients on an outstanding job. S!
  17. Stupid phones! Said the guy who's posting from one now
  18. Ricky's video: @ Ricky, what Klaiber is saying is that in order to embed your video, all you have to do is play the actual video (click on it, don't use the link Youtube gives you for sharing). Then copy the different, longer URL which is in the address field, and just paste it directly into your message without any other added code or text. When you post that message, your video will be embedded right in your post, like it is here. Unless of course for some reason, you don't want it done that way. S!
  19. That's great! Stay on the healthy road!
  20. Oh, he's in there, LOL
  21. That is good. Figuring out where I am and getting a correct course back home is not something I'm very good at.
  22. Does it happen in all sims? If so, looks like a bad potentiometer or Hall sensor. However, I have seen a bad wire connection cause a similar problem, but in that case I would expect it to happen throughout the entire pitch axis.
  23. There is "game mode" in Windows 10 now (Win-G, enable game mode). Is this doing anything for you guys? I use it but haven't checked in detail as Brit has whether or not it's doing any good.
  24. Didn't see a credit message. Looked like he ran out of fuel and you let him go.
  25. Thanks Sturm, I didn't see that before the event but I ended up looking at the Wargrounds TS server and saw they had a channel for Cuban's missions, and also saw Cuban and Wrongway on the Entente channel, so I figured that's the place to be, and went there. Ended up by myself most of the time, but later Loopy and Emerlist joined me there. Not sure where J2 goes, but in the future as Central (at least this time), we should pick one place for everybody so we can coordinate a little better. S! PS, not sure how important it is to you guys, but this is a public part of our forum, so you can PM the password if you want instead of posting it here....
