Black September two victories in a Dr.I
Barton replied to Britchot's topic in JG1 Videos & Screen Caps
That was an interesting engagement. Good job, guys! -
that did it! thanks!

I was hoping to get online today but it seems I can't update IL-2 at the moment. Update keeps failing. Maybe the update server is down?

Finally got my shelves up in my stairway and got the steins in place. These floating shelves were all home made and I'm hoping over engineered as some of these things are pretty pricey. One of them has a piece of the Berlin Wall on it and is worth about 5x what I paid for it. Sharp eyes might recognize another particular stein in the collection whose inclusion in my collection was inspired by certain events in the squadron. Happy to see them all up where they can be seen instead of hiding in my closet.

I rarely watch movies even with the convenience of Netflix and a 50" TV in my living room let alone the expense and hassle of going to a theater but as soon as I saw this trailer I turned to my girlfriend and notified her that I *will* be going to see this movie on the day of release. No questions. I'm sure it will have a lot of nostalgia content, because why wouldn't it? Star Wars Episode VII did and some of that was cool, but I hope the story line and characters are a bit more developed in Top Gun than they were in Star Wars. I have zero interest in seeing another Star Wars film, ever. There is a female pilot in the trailer (for a second) so I'm assuming she's going to have a fairly central role in the film. I'll assume she's worth her salt but I hope they give her some realistic flaws. When I was supporting Top Gun in Fallon, NV we had one female Marine student pilot come through and she almost always had trouble trying to get the jet's systems to work on the ground. Almost every launch she'd have a troubleshooter hook up to walk her through something. Other pilots some of my friends talked to confirmed that she was a bit clueless on the ground but could fly like hell. In one simulated battle she bagged an F-16 AND an F-22. *EDIT: I'm sure that USAF Raptor pilot is still taking flak for being shot down by a female Marine pilot in a Legacy Hornet that is probably older then either of them.*

it was WoL so somewhere around the 200 range. The lag can account for some of the odd angles hits get registered at on the client end but that just means that the gunners are that much quicker on the draw, which is just as bad.

I have seen videos of Pe-2 Gunners with a single .30 take apart Fw-190s faster than I could with all eight .50s in a P-47. The damage they can do is absurd. And it's like a light switch. one millisecond they can't get close to hitting you with a shot that any noob could score hits on and the next they just decide you shouldn't exist anymore, so you don't.
-
Congrats guys!

Sharfi posted a video of a bf-110 gunner annihilating her P-47 in about 2 seconds so it definitely is not limited to the Pe-2 but from what I understand it is all tailgunners and ground AAA

Fixed it

I don't know why but the video was set to private. This has been rectified.

They had a B-17 and a B-24 there as well that I got to crawl around in. You could go up in one for a couple hundred bucks but my attention was on the P-40 and P-51 two seaters they had there. Those were upwards of 2k to fly. If my girlfriend hadn't just moved in I probably would have emptied my bank account to make that happen. Instead, logic and responsibility prevailed and I'll just have to save up for next time.
-
The B-25 will be flyable eventually. The story behind the real "Tondelayo" B-25 is insane.

If you use super glue to put them together they're the only thing more durable than an old Nokia phone

Apparently Dogfights 3, which is the one I wanted to link to, has been removed (possibly due to the music by Prodigy in it) and these older videos have been reduced in quality quite a bit. I may re-upload them in the near future.

First thing I can remember creating with Legos when I was a kid was a biplane. Was the coolest kid in preschool for a week.

Windows 10 has access to the X-Box store I guess. I wouldn’t know, I’m still on 7. Playing a flight sim never really appealed to me especially after I got a hold of a combat flight sim. Idk what it is, but if you take away the risk of getting bounced or being shot at by AAA suddenly I’m not interested. It’s kinda like hot lapping in a racing sim. Take away the other cars and I get bored very quickly. But ai know now a few people, personally, who would get a lot of fun out of this. I can’t wait to get these kind of graphics in something like IL-2.

That’s crazy. I doubt any American jet could do that

This is amazing! Those clouds! The textures! holy hell I bet you could see the tent cities in Seattle and someone crapping in the street in San Fran! But seriously I would totally be down to grab a stunt plane and weave through buildings and under bridges in VR.

It probably was true when it was built but I can tell you there's no way in hell our interstate roads could support the weight of a modern jet aircraft. However, if you're in a civil aircraft in an emergency it can come in handy. Especially if you're handy with your plane. https://www.ijpr.org/post/pilot-lands-plane-moving-truck-s-flatbed#stream/0 Kinda funny that it happened on Highway 97 as I've traveled that road more times than I care to count in the last 20 years

I can understand your frustration at this. If this happened to me as often as it has been happening to you I might feel the same way. For me the D.Va is so much more stable when full back stick in a hard bank that it makes it much more easy to get an accurate shot. The D.III wallows in those circumstances and I’ve had more than one fight last much longer than it should have when I couldn’t quite get my guns where I wanted accurately because I was fighting the plane. For me this is the straw that breaks my will to fly that plane if I have the option to fly the pfalz or D.V. I’m not saying you’re wrong. If the D.III works better for you, by all means use it.
-
I’ve never liked the D.III. It’s not as stable and is in fact less maneuverable (slightly). In fact I’ve always wondered why 777 never rectified this. German pilots gave up their D.Vas for D.IIIs because the Vs were so terrible but in game the V is better in every aspect I can think of. And the V is the free plane, too! I’ve never had any problems with the wings being too fragile in any circumstance other than a steep dive or hard pullout. It all depends on where you get hit. I shot down a couple Camels before with just a couple rounds to the outer wing and strut area. Actually one of them was in squadron practice. I attacked from the high 2 and shot maybe 5 rounds at him and as he turned around to engage me after the merge his wings blew off. I was pretty surprised by that one. Ever since this kind of experiences in RoF I always aim for the mid to outer wing area on enemy aircraft if I can. The roundels on the wings make pretty good targets.

It has a pretty good glide path if you keep it at 270kph but typically when you go glide mode it’s because you’re Swiss cheese
-
I’m really not sure how I didn’t get hit
