So, I’ll probably never see the light of day again

I got my first combat sortie in in a long time with Lip and Badger. Although we lost two planes to blown engines (no pilots lost) we did do considerable damage to a train station and I got 2 kills (somehow). The cloud cover was awesome (layered clouds? Hell yeah!) but my graphics settings had made planes practically disappear in them and stutters were making it nearly unplayable at times. With their help I did get this sorted out (thanks guys!) and was eager to get in another sortie but the lady required my attention so I had to sign off. I will be modifying the setup a bit as the stick is a bit too far forward and high but other than that I don’t really have any complaints about it. Will be working on that tonight after work. Will also be debriefing the sortie in the Oseau forums. -

I did do a bit of tuning my sensitivities in BoX and some QM fights against AI to knock some rust loose. I can’t say right now how much I will or will not be able to do -
I had Sony Vegas 12 for a while that I had gotten for free (don’t ask me how * cough cough*) but when I changed my SSDs it didn’t transfer. I did just pick up a version of Vegas 14 for some $50 but haven’t quite had the chance to use it yet, but I will soon. I’ll let you know how it is. I had purchased a version of Pinnacle and that software was garbage (a waste of over $100).

First off, photobucket is garbage. But that’s not what I’m posting about. I’ve taken a break from flight simming to pursue a personal goal of mine and that is coming along. I was hoping to get away from simming altogether but having a new wheel set up, a gaming rig, and some excess lumber I put some elbow grease into a dedicated racing rig. With a $40 Racing seat I pulled from a Toyota Celica at a local U-Pick it worked damn well. I had made some errors that I needed to correct to make it really work right but I never really got around to it until now. However, when I decided to modify the setup I decided that racing sims weren’t as exciting as other things (and iRacing is a money pit) so when I pulled screws, recut some of the components, added new components, and did a little bit of redesign....well....this happened:

Today is my 32nd birthday! Hard at work on the project that has pulled me from the squadron but I miss you guys and flying so much. Hope everyone is doing well! Wish I could participate in the upcoming Oseau Beer Stein event! Good luck to everyone! Hope to be back in the air with you all soon! ~S~

I always set my head tracking so that if I looked at the top 1/3 of my screen it would be full up. Same for left/right/down. This gives good visibility without being too erratic. It will take some time to adjust and keep your head still when maneuvering and firing but it is well worth it. Works even better with big screens. I mostly ran a 32" monitor. Add a little x/y/z if you can to help look around struts and over the side. Should be enough that you can achieve the in game limit of movement without the tracker losing the reflectors but low enough that your head is not flopping around making it harder to look down the guns.

90% of what I did used FRAPS or ShadowPlay to record and Windows Movie Maker as suggested above. WMM doesn't have a whole lot of fancy options but it is straightforward and user friendly. Good Luck!

You showed some excellent flying here. That bout with the SE5s was genuinely impressive. I would say that it validated my evaluation of your skills but I feel that I underestimated you. The biggest thing you need to improve on is your gunnery. I think your biggest problem is being uncomfortable taking shots that require an amount of lead that partially hides the enemy under your nose. Your long shots on the low 2 seater we were attacking were just about dead nuts on. However, you shots at some of the SE5s were consistently just behind. If your aim had been just as far in front of the SE5 as they were behind in that 2v2 bout with him and the tripe that SE wouldn’t have lasted 10 seconds. Get comfortable with shooting at a plane you can only partially see and you’ll be 5x as deadly. Was a bunch of fun flying with you Luft! ~S~

Very tempting! I'll take you up on that when I come back!

This guy has some very good videos. I'd suggest giving them a look. Here's the link to his channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/na851/videos

I did post on chat. No reply. No guarantee he spoke English, so...

I've had to evade attempted fratricide on far too many occasions. Thankfully the guys dumb enough to do this are usually easy to beat, like this guy was.

Unfortunately we’ve made an appearance.

I was looking to do a montage with music of the period and swing music just has that energy that compliments the action, I think. This song is particularly good! Glad everyone has enjoyed it! More to come--and pretty soon, too, the way these German pilots are just throwing themselves in front of my guns!

Merry Christmas and happy new year to everyone!

Got myself into a bit too much trouble to get out of by myself. Luckily I wasn't alone!
