    Zuper VR!

According to the PCMag Reverb G2 review: ” HP recommends at least an Intel Core i7 or Xeon E3-1240 v5 CPU; Nvidia GTX 1080, Quadro P5200, or Radeon Pro WX 8200 GPU; and 16GB of RAM. That's twice the RAM and a good step or two higher each for CPU and GPU (from a Core i5-4590 and Nvidia GTX 1060 or 970) than you need to use the Rift S. You also need a DisplayPort 1.3 port and a USB 3.0 port“
  2. I still have RoF installed, TrackIR and a Rift. I’d be up for either sim. 777 did screw up the FC two-seater plane by giving the Entente Bristols instead of RE.8s.
  3. While on my recent Elite Dangerous exploration, my Oculus Rift right earphone lost audio. By fiddling with the right slip joint on the headset, I could get it working again, but only intermittently. When exploring, I’m always lifting the headset so I can see to make notes. I figure with all the extra movement of I wore or frayed a cable in the slip joint. This seems to be a common problem with the rift as I was able to find a relatively easy fix on the web. It appears the earphone loses ground when the cable frays, so using a length of fine telephone wire to connect the botton pins (ground?) on the left and right earphone restores functionality. At least it did for me. Here are the YouTube links showing how it’s done. Left earphone fix, excellent step by step instructions. https://youtu.be/oLrT94lakpo Right earphone fix, basically saying the left fix works for the right earphone too. https://youtu.be/DNZ-i5K3fZ0
  4. I noted one instance of rubber banding, but no other connection issues.
  5. Does your mother board have built in graphics? Unlikely long shot might be you’re running on built in intel graphics not the 1080Ti.
  6. Good to hear you’re safe Vic!
  7. Found this, although I suspect you already have it. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/driver-verifier-dma-violation
  8. I won’t be flying this Saturday (Sep 21). Grandkids visiting and the Thunderbirds are at Oceana this weekend.
  9. I had to delete the entire Update folder before it would update.
  10. There was a family renting our oceanfront house one week when it rained every day. From the comments they left in the guest book, they were starting to get cabin fever and were a bit depressed................ until they found the Legos! We have a couple of big bins of legos in the house for rainy days acquired over the years at garage sales. Apparently saved their vacation.
  11. Oculus is releasing their Oculus Rift S. Supposed to be better optics, but the big plus I see is the tracking sensors are built into the headset. Gives you room scale VR while eliminating the need for external sensors, each of which needs its own USB port and full room scale uses three of them. https://www.oculus.com/rift-s/?&utm_source=gg&utm_medium=a_ps&utm_term=oculus%20rift%20s&utm_campaign=1828267642&utm_content=345439811735&utm_parent=rift-s&utm_ad=70308409660&utm_location=9008535&utm_location2=&utm_placement=kwd-390594492938&utm_adposition=1t1&utm_device=t&utm_matchtype=p&utm_feed=&gclid=CNHDnK3h_OECFcmmswodr4UKQg&gclsrc=ds
  12. Thanks guys. Congratulations to all! S!
  13. Got tickets for the 7:00 pm 3D showing.
  14. Finally got around to updating IL2 last night. Love the PD.III in VR! It appears more compact in VR than 2D. I loaded up RoF just to check the apparent size differences. Same size, but the VR experience is much better. Also flew a pattern in the P-47. Got it up and down in one piece, but will have to do some studying on systems and engine operation. Remember, I'm just a lowly Sailplane pilot. Once we get more than an airspeed indicator, altimeter, variometer and compass I'm pretty much lost.
  15. Welcome back! I figured you’d be back eventually, but am pleasantly surprised your leave got cancelled sooner rather than later. Have fun buying a new set of controllers. Sticking with Ch, or are you going to try some other kit?

Nothing wrong with using TrackIR for war flying and VR for casual flying. You just can’t beat the immersion of VR, but the current generation headsets arn’t there as far as resolution is concerned. That said, I play Elite Dangerous exclusively in VR, even though my 34 inch curved monitor renders photo real. It’s the difference between being in the simulation as opposed to looking in through a window from the outside. The Oculus is first gen commercial VR. Second gen will double the resolution and third gen will double it again. I’ll be skipping the second gen. Third gen will require an all new computer and video card. BTW, third gen will really mess with our minds. TrackIR is now and always will be the only way when seated to easily look behind. That’s the downside of the “reality†part of VR, you have to be able to twist your shoulders and neck 180 degrees to see behind like you do in real life. I’m a long time past being able to do that.

I know the P-40 and Yak 1b have mirrors.

Isn’t this exactly why the Germans developed the ‘Finger-four’ formation during the Spanish Civil War?
  19. I was in Melbourne on a job back in 2001 and visited a museum that had an SE5a in silver finish that was a gift from the Queen to Australia after WW I. Is it still there?
  20. I bought all the stuff for my flight simulator workstation update from Newegg July 28, well before this breach (I hope). :-0
  21. Luft, if you purchased the early access, you have purchased the complete volume 1. As the volume 1 content gets finished it will be added to your game at no additional cost.
  22. Installed the Oculus on my flight sim workstation. Checked the box in Oculus Home to allow unknown applications. FC needs Steam VR. I didn’t have a Steam account, so the first step was to create one. After creating the account, it wasn’t totally clear how to install Steam VR. It did turn out to be easy enough. I opened FC and checked the VR box in graphics. Then closed the game. Put the Oculus headset on and launched FC again. Oculus Home started up, and Steam started with a box asking to install Steam VR. Followed the Steam VR installation instructions and done. The SPAD and Dr.1 are pretty cool in VR. Looking forward to more scenery and airplanes.
  23. Fred, I had forgotten to log into my Microsoft account from this box. That wasn’t a thing when I first built it. Yes, Elite Dangerous is fantastic in VR. I have Oculus and Elite on my other computer.
