Last night, JG1 decided to switch things up to keep it fresh. The previous Thursday, we were up at 6k. This Thursday, we were down in the weeds in our bombers, pushing the objectives! We had a very successful night on the first map, turning it around in very quick fashion - not to mention scoring some air kills along the way! The next map was Metz. Traditionally, the Huns are supposed to be relegated to stooging around their own lines to stave off the inevitable bombing offensive from the Allies. Well, we decided that we'd had enough of that. It was time to take the fight to the enemy!    Thus, we lifted off in our trusty Rolands and Halberstadts and bombed out their airfields. Not in a long time have the Allied hangars burned in Metz as they did that night! Although the casualties for us were high, we managed to shut down both of their airfields (although not simultaneously as we had hoped).

After all this, we decamped to Flying Circus for some fun dogfight action on the JG1 server. Really looking forward to the future of this title!

All in all, it was a fun night! Big salute to all who came out and filled the skies! We'll catch you next week on Cuban's server!

I want to give supreme thanks to Vonrd for providing me with something I've never had before.  This skin is not just a paint job for me, but has given me an identity that I can be proud of.

Originally I was going to post screen shots of each version that we went to; however, this became so many that that became too much.  Suffice it to say that Vonrd went through 8 major revisions in order to end up with what you see here; the latest and final one being completed only yesterday.  "The 12 Days of Christmas" certainly has meaning for me with respect to Vonrd!  Each day he returned a version that corrected, added or adjusted things from the last version.  He has the patience of a saint!  I can't possibly thank him enough.

Although I sure he'll add it to the next major revision, you can download it now, here:  Luftritter Dr.I skin

And before Larner or Talbot beats me to it, NO, the "LR" does not stand for "Left" and "Right", LOL!      I gotta admit I sure provided them with fodder for joking, HAHA!  But I'll take my lumps and keep it, I love it!

Gotta say that today's special event (Dec 23) on the JG1 FC server was spectacular!

Super-duper thanks to Butzzell for having excellent mission maps ready to go, and all those who joined us for the fun!  For those who couldn't make it, we missed you, but were probably too involved to remember that at the time

Learned a LOT about the Entente planes, and flew them the entire time.  At high altitudes, the SPAD is not as dominant over the Pfalz, as it is at low altitudes.  I found the Camel flippin' awesome, we cleaned house with it, it turns like crazy and can catch anything on the Central side right now, so is really the most dangerous foe for us.

Special THANKS to Larner for winging up in SPADs, what a great experience; even though he was severely hampered by excessively low frame rates.  Also as usual excellent teamwork and leadership by Razwald, Loopy, Dudley, Hotlead, Pragr, Etzel, Butzzell, Lipfert, Snaggle, Kliegmann, and everybody else I had the extreme pleasure of flying with and against.  There is something unusually memorable about flying in a completely new venue, and FC did not disappoint; and I have to rank today's event among my all-time favorites.

Not only welcome back my friend ,,, but welcome to real life. As for myself I've been dealing with the loss of a brother as you know and a new career . I too miss flying and hanging out with the gang. You got me started back into flight simming . So it's a pure pleasure to hear you'll be up in the skies (virtually) again.
    God bless.

Things took a really unexpected turn for me yesterday. Basically, my parents met with me and told me that they would be fine with me returning to flying ROF. This naturally came as quite a (pleasant) shock for me, as when my parents and I decided I should stop flight sims and PC games, I thought that this decision was pretty much set in stone and not subject to change.

Now, it's not that my parents brutally swooped in and forced me to give up simming lol. It was a joint decision we made, albeit a very hard one for me. And I still believe it was the right move at that time. Flight sims (plus a whole lot of other PC games) had really gotten a hold on me to the point where I wasn't trying any new hobbies and sacrificing time with my family. I know in JG1, one of our core mottoes is "real life comes first," but things had gotten to the point where real life was starting to take a backseat for me. Also, especially as my younger brother (Furious Flea) started to battle with ulcerative colitis and was hospitalized, it was crystal-clear that I needed to be available for my family rather than spending 2-3 hours on my PC every night.

Anyway, so that's why my parents and I jointly decided to pull the plug not just on ROF but every PC game. At that time, we thought that I would never do it again and just leave it all behind. That's why they suggested I sell my gear so that I wouldn't be tempted to re-enter it. So, when I submitted my resignation from the group, I honestly thought that I was done for good. I closed down my Twitch channel, sold my gear, and said my goodbyes.

That's why yesterday came as such a shock for me! I believe my time on leave was ultimately was a good thing. I started new pursuits, learned some new hobbies, and spent time deepening my relationship with my family in a way I probably wouldn't have if I was still flying every night. But now, I think I can put ROF in its proper place in my life and take to the skies again!

I'm planning on flying one night a week, and not on Saturdays. I've grown to like having my Saturdays free, so I wouldn't be doing FiF. But honestly, FiF wasn't what I missed most about ROF. It was just the pure awesomeness of flying sorties with the guys in JG1 and the adrenaline rush of dogfighting that I missed the most. And now that I've been away, I think I am going to appreciate and enjoy that one night a week so much more! I’ll be reopening my Twitch channel too, so really looking forward to that as well. Finally, I've decided to focus purely on ROF, and later on Flying Circus. With only so much time available, it makes sense to focus on what I really love.

So yeah...I'm back! Who’s ready to send those Entente boys down in flames? :D

    Yeah, you can do that:

Using Windows File Explorer, browse to the file location shown in the yellow box below.  In the "Tracks" folder, you will see one set of file/folder for every RoF track that is saved on the computer.  The example below has only ONE track saved, but you will most likely see many.  Every track has it's own *.trk file, and along with that a folder that has the same name as the file name.  These names are the names that the game shows for the tracks inside the game.  By default they're named by mission type and date/time, but you're able to rename them within the game; so find whatever applies.  MOST IMPORTANTLY: you must copy BOTH the appropriate *.trk file AND the corresponding folder with the same name.  You then paste them into YOUR computer's "Tracks" folder.  Once you do that, you'll be able to go into your game and find it in the list of tracks, and then play/edit it.

The person who is supplying the track data will have to get it to you in some way, the best thing would be to put them in a *.zip file (archive) and send it to by email if it's not too big, or if it is, upload it to a file hosting site such as Microsoft OneDrive and share it there.

    Hi,

From the looks of the present FC, we will be using RoF for Black September and FiF 2018 fall.  Not much new there.

For the FC version of FiF. We have many options.

The number of live or killable object is greatly increased. In the past we have randomly selected one of three targets. With FC we can have all three as live targets. So..... 3 real bridges not AAA trucks, 3 factories, 3 Trains, 3 Ships, 3 airfields and 3 on road convoys.

I think the standard HQ recon is still a viable mission,  Both Deciman and AnKor are looking into it but it will probably be after FC is released

Trains will have MG cars for defense.

Bridges will have a  machine gun for defense. No flak gun. Maybe 2 MGs

Factories will have one distant Flack gun and one close in MG instead of 2 flack guns.

The other thing is the ingame repeating target list. Much of this can be replaced with icons on the map. The example is the factory. You start out with 3 icons on the map. As the targets are destroyed the icons are removed from the map. That way you know what still needs to be done.   For pop up targets it is the same thing. When you complete the artyspot or a recon, rescue, general capture, spy mission etc. You will get a message that a new target is active. You will see a new icon on the map and if you mouse over, it will say if it is a ship or trucks or horses etc.

    This is just the beginning.

ok,  I have two missions in sequence on the JG1 server. The AI is performing as it is expected. It is the Kuban map for both. Clouds have been removed at this time.

    Hello guys!

I have wanted to get this up for a while, and my intention was to upload some pics here as well as a few video clips I have, but I've been too busy, and I will try to get that situated soon. In the mean time I wanted to share my experiences so far with you guys without being too long winded.

So my first experience was in a Cessna 172R which felt right at home thanks to the time I've spent in X-Plane 11 recently. I knew exactly what I was looking at on the plane and what to look for during my pre-flight check, start up, and taxi. My instructor was very open, and could tell I was more familiar with the aircraft than most on my first time in it. We took off shortly after with me pulling the yoke while he handled the rudder. I was not ready for how much it takes to get a plane into the air! It feels like very little input in the sim comparatively, and I was surprised that I was finding myself having to really move the controls a lot to get the intended response from the aircraft. Nonetheless, I was really enjoying my time in the air although, I found myself buried in the instruments rather than looking outside. It was definitely a lot to take in for my first time, but I really tried to absorb as much as I could. Before I knew it we were heading back to the airport, and I found myself relinquishing the controls somewhat reluctantly. The instructor did a very nice demonstration of how to land the Skyhawk properly. Overall, I thought the whole flight was very inviting and informative. I was lucky to not have to pay a dime for the flight as they offer a free one through my school! I did however, purchase my logbook, and recorded my first 0.6 hrs!

A few days later, I couldn't wait to get in the air again. I scheduled a flight with the other flight school that I could do my training with, and was very interested to see how their Diamond-20 aircraft felt. I was very excited at the prospect of getting my hands on a flight stick rather than a yoke. Immediately upon arrival I could tell this school was a smaller more tightly knit one. To be honest, I liked the feeling from the moment I walked in the door. I waited anxiously for my plane to return from the discovery flight in front of me, and got some good information about the schools training schedule. Once it was time for me to meet the low-wing bird I did not hesitate to ask a plethora of questions about the differences between the DA-20 C-1 and 172R. My instructor was beyond helpful, and he was also very laid back and I could tell that we jelled pretty well. Before I knew it we were taxing to the runway where he already let me on the controls much more than in the previous flight. I received a little help on takeoff, but did get the bird in the air without much trouble. I made a turn and began to climb out all by myself on the controls, and honestly I was somewhat shocked at the freedom the instructor was giving me. I felt far more comfortable with a stick in my hand rather than a yoke, and once I trimmed the plane out it hit me. Suddenly, all at once I knew this was what I've always wanted to be able to try! I found myself looking around without needed to constantly look at my guages. I could feel if I was slipping, climbing, or wings level just by the responsiveness of the aircraft. Something about that DA-20 struck a chord! The instructor just about never touched the controls the entire time we were in the air, and he only assisted me on the landing. It was a mind-blowing experience! I signed up for the school immediately upon landing. I knew that was the school for me, one where I can move at my own pace and have the freedom to learn by experience rather than demonstration, and I knew that I needed to feel that flight stick in my hand!

All in all, I can not wait to get in the air again! I have to say that I absolutely fell in love with the Diamond-20 C-1, and I really cannot wait to spend the next few months tucked securely behind it's lovely semi-bubble canopy!!!

Well I got my $15.00 US off and got the early release of FC for $54.99 US.  With the setup I had for RoF, I found FC much harder to see in, with the higher resolution that I'm using.  It seems that the pilot's position in the cockpit is further forward; in other words, I can't get a FOV that's as wide as I used to get in RoF.  This is evidenced by the fact that the default position is higher, and the gun sight no longer is lined up with the "X" wires on the Dr.I, but instead is shooting above them.  I found Barton's comments while flying the Dr.I interesting, saying that they don't require as much lead...but actually the lead was pre-programmed in, as he was lining up the wires, but the bullets were going far forward of that...at least that is what happens in my resolution.  I can see that he has a 16:9 aspect ratio, where as mine is much wider (though not taller).  What I did notice is that this game seems to eliminate the "fish eye" effect which is the result of stretched video in RoF, when you turn your head, when using the wider aspect ratio that I have.

One thing I was disappointed in, and is probably is a result of the basic engine, is the "hit flashes" that appear on the structure of the enemy plane you're shooting at, when your bullets hit home.  This is great for the shooter, but is a big disadvantage for the the flyer or maneuverer.  I'm very sure this is realistic for WWII fighting in which large caliber bullets are hitting metal structure; but I highly doubt that wood and canvas makes flashes when .303 bullets hit them....and this was my number 1 reason for staying away from OFF (Over Flanders Fields), which was also based on a WWII flight/damage engine.  I know this is an early release, but with the integration with the WWII (IL2) sims, wonder whether it will ever be possible to change that without affecting everything else.  Oh well, if not, we'll all become very used to it.  In the end, it will reward the shooting end, and penalize the escaping end....which is I thought was one of the best aspects of RoF....the ability to escape damage or harm through flying skill or maneuvers.

This is nothing that is specific to FC, but is specific to IL2.  It pisses me off that the game will not recognize the integrated "switches" which are incorporated into each lever axis of a CH Thottle Quadrant.  Here is another thing that worked perfectly in RoF, but doesn't work at all in the IL2 series.  In other words, I can't program a blip switch (or any other function, like engine on/off or prop feathering) to any of my quadrant axis switches, because the IL2 games do not see it when trying to map it in the IL2 controls mapping utility.  This would not be a big deal if those particular switches were able to be mapped to different key within the CH Control Manager; but those particular switches which are integrated into the control axis, are not able to be remapped; in other words, they can only work in "DX (Direct X) mode.  Just about any other switches are able to be reprogrammed.

So I am wondering whether others (maybe Barton?) have no trouble mapping those switches using other throttle quadrant hardware.  Perhaps for some reason the IL2 game recognizes Saitek quadrants and not CH quadrants.  What's up with that?

Regardless, I'm wondering if there is a time that us current owners of FC can get together on a MMP server and try to kick some @$$       , or at least host our own server and practice against each other.

Well gents it was absolutely amazing! Definitely had a chance to take the controls a bit and get a good feel for the aircraft. A lot more movement than in the sims that's for sure, but wow what a thrill.
