The race track I was at two weekends ago in Topeka is across the street from the National Guard air base and the aviation museum, and I really hate that I couldn't make any time to go with everything going on.
I genuinely think the MiG-29 and 21 are some of my favorite aircraft ever, aesthetically. Man those look *mean*! -
The racing was great last night. I'm glad people warmed up to the Oran Park as we got more laps on it!!!
Wish I had made practice and done a better job . . . though. Watching Riley slowly walk away from me was depressing! -

Interesting, thanks everybody. Sorry for the odd question. Seems strange they would distribute differently at different prices through two platforms. I guess I'll watch the forums like a Hawk for if the MiG-21 and/or F5-E go on sale at some point; I know snaggle was telling me the squadron primarily flies the 21.

Okay, so, lets say I wanted to get my first module for DCS after looking at all this tasty preview stuff.
I'm very, very confused if the Steam versions of the modules are playable online, the DCS website says they are "Steam incompatible" - however the F5-E module (what I may like to start with) is so tempting to me at 50% off on steam sale currently. If I purchased it would I then not be able to fly it online due to purchasing the steam version? I know this might seem like a remedial question, but I would appreciate clarification on this.

S! Ted, might join you for the next races!
Had a very big two weeks of client projects... and it should follow until the end of June!
Cheers
No Judgement from me! I've been absent the last 3-6 months myself because of odd work hours, so I'm just glad to have you when you can be here

This first race was really, really good! I'm excited to race against James for the rest of the series and very happy that Kevin and Antonio are of about equal pace to Walter so everybody has somebody to race with, for the most part.
A bit sad at the low car count, will try to sing the series praises to anybody I can get my voice to in the coming weeks! -

Might be able to get in on a few of these, but definitely not this weekend. My wheel is sitting near me, itching to get hooked up.
It would be great to have you! Please register and we'll see you for what rounds you can in fact make -

well disciplined and talented young man .
I appreciate this; but I've gained a lot of weight and lost a lot of time getting back to this point! So. I humbly decline both of these compliments, hahaha. -
Hey gang!
My basement flood is still an ongoing issue (Insurance payment dispensed, waiting on the selected contractor to come in and actually repair the damage now - it's been 3-5 weeks since we selected him . . . .)
In preparation for my first full racing season since "Retiring" after my 2016 pro campaign, I've acquired my first ever new truck as a lease that's well within my financial constraints and suits my needs. Grabbed it as an end of February special and did the paperwork for it on the last day of the month while the truck hadn't arrived at the dealership yet.
It's a 2021 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Trim level, 1 up from base model with cloth seats and a crew cab and a backup camera for hitching up! It has the 7-pin connector for a car hauling trailer w/ brakes and the 3.5L Engine with a 6400 pound towing capacity. More than adequate for a car hauler and a single racing vehicle.
Here's a picture of it as it was delivered to my driveway this morning before work, as well as the new Tilt-bed aluminum trailer I purchased to use with it - I don't have it in my possession because I was waiting on the truck to be delivered first, so all I have is the specifications sheet off the dealer website.
Exciting times here in the Hough household, sorry for all the inactivity on the flight sim side of things. Once my basement is reassembled and if I get a dispensation to replace my VR headset I hope to actually be properly active with the Squadron this year whenever possible; and of course share all the exciting things I get up to with the new man-toys!
I think one of the things I'm looking forward to most is my Mother - who was me and Dad's towing driver when we raced as a family - getting to teach me and my Fiance Sarah how to haul the car and trailer. It'll be a whole family event, can't wait!

Thread bump for Time-zone change announcement:
Roundel Racing now STARTS races at 1900GMT/1300 US CST on Sundays
So if you want to get involved for the new slightly more US friendly time slot, please sign up for our next beginner friendly championship starting on March 7th at the following link: https://roundelracing1.emperorservers.com/championships
I will be using ACSR for this championship. the same management and signup/player tracking system that Main JG1RT and Snaggle currently use!
Would love to see some more of the guys there! -
Don't forget to let me know if you'd like a second Sunday race time slot in the late afternoon/early evening US time!
Here's a Discord link so you can join up if interested, I forgot to get it earlier: https://discord.gg/3NGGgKwShF -
Suzuki Alto Sunday Cup Schedule:
Rd.1) Autumn Ring - March 7th, 2021Rd.2) Deep Forest Raceway - March 14th, 2021
Rd.3) Trial Mountain Circuit - March 21st, 2021
Rd.4) Grand Valley Speedway - March 28th, 2021
After a two week break from championship events, the 2nd Roundel Racing championship will help beginner drivers ease into some slower, easier cars with the 660CC Suzuki Alto FF Kei Car!Hope to see you all there, #required_tracks , #required_cars and #entry_and_signup contain the usual downloads and information!
Don't forget to check out #skinning_modding_etc if you want to make a custom skin for this championship!
Drivers of all skill and experience levels are welcome - invite your friends if they'd be interested!
If we have a lot of signups and people desire more races, we can always add more! After only getting 14 signups and 9 unique drivers for the TZ cup, I doubt it heavily, but you neverk now!
All races begin at 1600GMT - qualifying runs for 4 hours before the event begins until the Race-1 start time
One thing I've been thinking of doing for the combination Driving/Flying members of the squadron is adding an early evening time slot around 4:00PM US CST for the league for you guys to be able to come race and not have it clash with Squadron flights/tourney's on Sunday evenings. If you would like this separate "US" time slot/race split because the current 10AM CST/4:00PM GMT slot doesn't work for you then please let me know and I can schedule more than one race time on Sundays! -

Yup. I just hope my CV1 can survive until I need a new computer.
Seriously.
If it weren't for all the Scalpers, I'd throw a 3060 in my rig and just buy a full price Primax or Index and call it good; wouldn't even need to deal with all this insurance runaround. -
Yeah, not a great position to be in. Apparently Oculus is treating the Rift S almost like abandonware now and not updating the firmware or software at all. But of course the Quest 2 has certain limitations . . . . . .
-
I'm getting several recommendation saying the Quest 2 is the more "Futureproof" option and better for a variety of games and that the Rift S is the "safe" option; but is no longer receiving updates or support. So I'm a bit torn and will probably have to ruminate on this for quite awhile.

is it 2x8 or 4x4? if it's 2x8 you can probably get another 2 sticks of the same spec to bring it up to 32.
2x8 currently
This exact model: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FPWFF4B?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1
My friends who are more into home builds than I were telling me that the clock speed is a little low on these; but at least it makes em' cheap! 2 more is only $91 on Newegg right now, so I can justify that for a mild performance upgrade, for sure, more RAM will help with my video editing for the racing school job, as well! -

I'm not sure of your RAM count, but her current one is 32MB. That helps with DCS, a ton.
I think I've currently got 16 of DDR4-3000, I could always get a 32GB kit of higher speed stuff if/when the VR gets replaced, maybe that'll help. -

That rig would probably run a Rift S, no problem, and allow you to keep your current Oculus library. My wife’s current computer is an i7-4750k and 1070G1.
This will keep you tethered to the computer, though. I am not personally sold on the value of the Quest, it just seems to be too much of a compromise for portability.
Interesting, I've heard this point made before because I basically don't know a single person that has the quest; even though the S and Quest 2 are spec'd similarly, there seems to be some inherent design problems with wireless systems that give people a sense of trepidation about using it.
Knowing that my rig would even run the newer models was sort of the primary thing, so the fact you're so confident I can run an S easies a lot of my primary concern. Thanks! -

I'm so sorry to hear that this happened Ted!
Having had to deal with this type of thing before, its absolutely awful. You should definitely file an insurance claim and try to recoup something, as any equipment and data you lost is a major hit.
I can't speak to the technical things. But I'm sure others can.
Also, I've moved this to Technical Support.
1: I will do the best I can getting replacements for any items effected
2: Thank you for moving it to the appropriate section, I don't know why I didn't put it there. -
Salutations all - sorry for the inactivity lately and the weird question.
For those of you unaware, my basement - along with my basement room containing all my recording, driving and flying equipment - flooded last week, so I'm in the middle of a cleanup, teardown and insurance claim process.
My Obutto and Rift CV-1 were both on the floor when the carpet soaked through, so my mother is recommending I claim them both on my insurance claim.
Main CPU: i5-8600k 3.6 Ghz 6-core
main GPU: 1070 Ti FTW Edition boost clocked/8GB edition.
Looking at the way the insurance claim process works, if I get approved for a new VR It will most likely be another Oculus Model. Considering the fact they're practically the same other than the Wireless capability and the difference in display resolution.
Which would the squadron members recommend based on these specifications?
I've been using my CV-1 as a dedicated racing sim VR due to the busted head tracking since I unboxed it; and the wireless functions on the Quest 2 Intrigue me because it would make swapping from Race/Flight sim sides of my desk easier, but I'm worried that it maybe has too much resolution for my current GPU? I could swing either way, so I don't really know what to do. I would absolutely love to be able to use VR in the flight sim squadron, though, finally. I believe it would be genuinely a great next step up from my little 20 inch HP 1600x900 monitor.
Thanks in advance - hope you're all safe and healthy!
