JG I "Richthofen" - FIFXXIIIa Session 2B (23 January 2016)
Butzzell replied to Klaiber's topic in Squadron News
S! Guys BIG CONGRATZ. Well done. -
S! All Wen night session, 20, Jan 2016 had a display error. The actual missions done by Blue team were 7. The final total said 8. I went through the logic of the mission completion and the mission total. They looked fine. Well computers are like Old Testament Gods, Lots of rules and no forgives. There had to be a problem somewhere. After about 6 hours of tearing the program apart, I finally found it. The Blue team artillery ships ran through the Red team surprise attack. Two of the Red team ships were sunk. There is a counter that collects the total ships destroyed and then adds to the mission totals. This counter was set to 1 instead of 4. So a single ship was enough to add to the total but not the mission completion. Sorry for the confusion. This is why adding new missions is so dangerous. It takes a while to get the bugs out. btw Lots of fun! Congrats to all for a great time.

S! All Great turnout for Saturday's mission. There was word that some folks could not get on because the server was full. The server was limited to 60 players. This was discussed among the administrators. Hardy believes the server can handle 70 players. He will increase the number but we need to keep an eye on lag and see how it goes. Please remember that at the beginning of the game that there is a limited number of people that can be in game and sitting on an airfield ready to take off. Some people at fighter bases may have to wait till first group takes off before they can get a plane and fly now.

S! Yes, as you do more with the skins you learn more. You start to get a feel for the potential and look back at what you could have done on earlier skins. I liked the P D.IIIa you did
-
S! Looks good. Just wondering why you did not want to use the historical Kempf skin?
-

S! All Looking at a time line for this next FiF. Holidays are fast approaching. Superbowl will be here before you know it. This will put us on hold for a few weeks At present we have a January start date. Wen Jan 6 and Sat Jan 9 for dry run, Wen Jan 13, Sat Jan 16 for first session. We will be using the Channel map and some of the faster planes. The new missions from the preview will be included. That will give us 12 objectives per side. Scenario: 1917, the war has been going badly for the Central countries. The Kaiser abdicates and new leadership is needed. An enterprising industrialist steps up to take over. Lex Luther, owner of LexCorp, seizes the opportunity. He launches a bold plan and invades England. Kent is captured. LexCorp forces are marching on Clark. The Planet faces a daily peril from the never ending onslaught. All is not lost. General Malcom Lois rallies the British forces for a counter attack. Can Lois rescue Clark and save the Planet? Will Kent be free? Tune in to FiF XXIII to see what happens. In the mean time we have some missions we can run that are a little bit different. These are not FiF missions. They are a dynamic scenario where land is captured. They are the result of a concept proposed by JG1_Shulte_J10, call sign Moxie. They bear his call sign as tribute. Here is how they work. Each team has a middle area. At first this is the only area that shows on the map. In that area are four bomber targets and one recon target. The targets are divided into two north and two south. When the two targets in the south are destroyed, a new area appears in the North. There is a new air base and two new targets. The same thing happens when the two Northern targets are hit, a new area appears in the south. When the four targets in the center are destroyed, the airbase is captured and switches sides. The same thing happens when the new targets in the North and South expansion areas are destroyed. The airbase switch sides 30 seconds after the targets are destroyed. Final victory is achieved by destroying the enemy HQ. To get the HQ to light up as a target , you have to have destroyed all other targets and completed the recon. The recon can be done at any time in the session. It does not give any secondary target like in FiF. It merely puts an X in the recon area to show it has been done. We will offer these as just for fun open missions at the usual FiF times. These are some maps to show how targets are designated and how the expansion looks. Map at start Map showing expansion in the North.

S! All The ISP for JG1 is having some problems: "One of our (and Internap's) upstreams in Chicago, Cogent, has had two several-minute-long outages in the last 20 minutes that may be due to unannounced maintenance in the Cogent network. These caused connectivity problems to some customers who were being reached via Cogent. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will ask Cogent what is going on." This message is several hours old.

S! The England practice has the planes used for the tournament ( well the tentative planes ). SE5a, Dolphin, HP400, DH4, Alb D.III, Fokker D.VIIf, DFW, Gotha. Practice tonight will have almost all planes along with a boatload of bomber and strafing targets. It will be on a Warfusse / Cappy map. There is also a navigation exercise course.

S! All The Saturday preview was great. Many people trying the new missions. Naturally we found a couple of things to correct. The biggest thing is that Tanks were replaced by trucks. This was done to help reduce the AI load. We did not see any AI stutters Saturday. This is being done so that we may not get to that point. We will have a preview Wen. night at the usual time. In the mean time, the JG1 server will have the same mission running but with a slight mod for 2 seater practice. There will be a friendly base in enemy territory. This will allow air starts closer to enemy targets. Recons must still take of at the official 2 seater base in friendly territory. Recons can land at the friendly base in enemy territory. This will give people a chance to become familiar with the new missions. Mon. night is JG1 practice and we will be running a different mission for training new pilots.

S! Wrongway Good job by all. It was a lot of fun.

S! All We will be doing a preview of FiF XXIII this saturdayl We will be using the England map. This is a north south map with the Thames Estuary as no man's land. We are going to possible add some new objectives and some changes to a couple of the old objectives. The purpose of this is to add some variety to the objectives and some new challenges. First the standard objectives list. Central: Reconnaissance of hidden target Espion (Spy) Bridge Factory Train Trucks moving on a road ( 1 AAA truck and 3 trucks ) Artillery spotting Reconnaissance secondary Reserve unit ( Espionage secondary ) Front line unit ( Artillery secondary ) Entent: Reconnaissance of hidden target Reconnaissance of Front lines Bridge Factory Train Trucks moving on a road ( 1 AAA truck and 3 trucks ) Artillery spotting Reconnaissance secondary Reserve unit ( Reconnaissance of Front lines secondary ) Front line unit ( Artillery secondary ) For those that have flown FiF before, you will notice that the Aerodrome attack and the ship moving on a river are not in the list. Trains and Tanks moving on a road have replaced these. That gives two moving targets that are hidden and must be found. We have 3 new objectives. HQ (Head Quarters), Espionage target and Surprise attack. HQ is common to both. Central: HQ and Espionage target Entente HQ and Surprise attack HQ: When the recon lands you get an usual complete message and announcement from Waldo or Otto about a secondary target. You will not get any announcement about the Recon location, where you took the pictures. That target will spawn three trucks and one AAA truck. It will appear on the repeating Objectives display as HQ not complete. When you kill all 4 vehicles you will get an HQ Complete message. Espionage target: The Spy mission is changed. He or she is now the Espion. You have to find the Espion in the Espionage area. He fires 2 green flares 30 seconds apart and will repeat in 5 minutes. You land within 3 km and he stops flares. You get a message that you have found the Espion and then the espion tells you to check a sector. You fly to that sector and he points to a ground location telling you the type of target, the named city and the grid location. When you land back in friendly territory you still get the usual secondary target, a reserve unit. Surprise attack: This was originally planed as tanks crossing the front. On the Channel map it becomes ships. There is a trigger in the Front line recon area. When tripped it spawns a cruiser and 3 transports. All 4 ships must be killed. There will be a subtitle of the spawn point and a named city that they will go to. They do a very slow zig zag. When they arrive , they stay up for 5 minutes. That is the catch. From spawn till end is about an hour on average. This puts a priority on planning and organization. It is possible to take all the pictures needed to complete the Front line Reconnaissance and not hit the trigger. It may be at one end, the other end or somewhere in the middle. There is also a change to the Artillery spotting objective. At the game start, there will be a subtitle announcing either a land or sea artillery spot. the land is the standard we have used before. The Sea artillery is 2 cruisers that spawn and go to a location that is in range of the target. Once "On Station", they are ready to start the event. The beginning subtitle will tell you when the ships spawn. This is a random time. They take 20 minutes to get "On Station". A team can prevent the artillery mission by sinking the ships before the artillery mission is complete. You can not prevent the land artillery mission by killing the guns. Sorry but that is to easy. S!, Blue team Big Congratz on a very hard win! We had a lot of tough fights and some very tense missions. Hope to do it again in the next FiF. See you there.

S! That looks like a Kermit Weeks plane. Most undoubtedly an exact replica to the smallest detail. There is a guy in NY that builds them, Brian somebody. I believe he built the one for Rhinebeck. Aerodrome airplanes used to offer a 5/8 scale D8. Not sure if Robert has it up to full scale yet. Have not checked in many years.

S! All This announcement is being made because of the present sale. People may want to pick up a few planes while they are on sale. FiF XXIII will be in England. This is the Channel map and yes, it will be all in England. The Thames Estuary is used as No Man's Land. This is a large map. Because of that we will be using some of the faster planes. Entente: SPAD 13, Sopwith Camel, DH4, HP400 Central: PD12, Maybe Fokker D7f, Fokker Dr.1, DFW,Gotha.

Rise of Flight (ROF) Mission Building Tutorials
Butzzell replied to Butzzell's topic in Technical Support
S! Going through and actually building it is good exercise to learn the proper kinds of links and pathways. While I have not posted these as groups you can open most FiF files and find them to make your own groups. -
S! Sorry, been busy. Windows installed updates and screwed the system. Up and running now.
