This is a mission suggested by Gen_Markov We have gone through various designs and implementation features as well as how it would fit into the existing FIF structure Basic mission. We replace the convoy on a road with an automobile . Only 1 live entity instead of 4. He not marked on the map and must be found. Fly within 3 km of the General so he will stop and fire a green flare. 10 seconds later he will fire a second flare in case you missed the first one. This is his surrender signal. A plane labeled Capture can land anywhere within a 3 km radius. This is to accommodate for bad landing areas. You do not need to land next to the automobile. When stationary after landing there is about a 10 second wait and you will see a General Capture subtitle in the bottom left of the screen. The Capture plane can land anywhere in friendly territory to complete the mission. The completion subtitle is in the top left of the screen. It takes about 15 seconds after landing to get the subtitle. The general has a case full of papers. Upon examination they reveal a troop build up along the front. This location subtitle will be displayed at the bottom left of the screen. This will be the Trench attack mission. It will be at a specific location and become part of the repeating list of objectives. If the Capture plane has problems and is damaged or killed before completion, the second Capture plane can be used. The AAA gun does not re-spawn after destroyed. If the AAA truck was destroyed the General does stay put but will no longer fire flares. If the AAA truck was not destroyed all vehicles keep moving. The second capture plane needs to land, get the subtitle and return to friendly territory. update on mechanics Just like spy mission it has 2 planes with different names. No tag team. Changed it to kill the flak truck. The General is not affected but his driver need laundry service. Driver stops the car and fires flare. Capture plane lands and picks up General. message like spy in lower left corner. Capture plane lands anywhere in friendly area to complete mission. Generals papers show troop build up on the front ... etc. Easier than trying to damage General If killed on the way home the second plane can go out ... but the general will not fire flare He will be at same place tied up in the back of the car. Just do not forget where you left him.

S! How about this: Replace the on road truck convoy with the General. Do not tell people where he is. I would use fast scouts or rear area bombers to find him and then call in the Capture 2 seater. When he gets back to base he gives intel on a troop build up at a specific point on the enemy lines. This is the trench attack mission. It can only be done by 2 planes with limited ordinance label Front line bombers or FLB. The target is one machine gun and 3 horse drawn wagons.

S! How about this: Replace the truck convoy on a road with the general. Do not tell people where he is. He gives information on a troop build up on the front lines. This will put a lot of pressure on finding the general. I would use fast scouts or my rear area bombers to find him and then bring in the 2 seater capture plane. When he returns he has papers that designate a troop build up on the front lines. This will be the front line attack mission. 1 machine gun and 3 horse drawn wagons as the target and can only be done by the 2 planes labeled front line bombers or FLB

We have done a huge 2 part tank battle, Cambrai There were machine gun ground troops constantly fighting and even artillery barrages of poison gas. The attack group was 4 groups of 5 tanks. They followed a zig zag path. As they moved forward , the Front or Area of Influence would move with them. If you were shot down and landed behind the advancing enemy lines, you were captured and unable to fly. There were subtitles announcing the capture. Basically, the attackers protect tanks and kill enemy Artillery. The attackers have a poison gas battery that will take out one enemy artillery unit.. The more enemy artillery you kill, the less damage your tanks take. Check out the Finali part 1 and 2. It creates a focus and becomes a fur ball. The result was that whichever side had killed off most of the enemy pilots had air superiority and won. It created a very lopsided score. It was too easy for the defenders to kill the attacking tanks even with limited planes.and was not perused. link here FiF XVI

Well it can add either 1 or 2 missions. Preferable to the side NOT doing the spy mission. It looked like our last FiF was very good with 12 missions each. We very rarely achieved all 12 on either side. The side Not doing the spy has Bridge Aerodrome Factory Road convoy Front line recon - surprise attack - Reserve unit Hidden recon - secondary bomber target- HQ bomber target Arty spot - secondary bomber target Replacing 2 missions would remove the arty spot. We would have Capture the General and a secondary bomber target instead. Replacing one mission, I would pick the surprise attack. The Front line recon would give you General's location when you land as well as the usual reserve unit location. btw for normal maps the surprise attack was changed to a front line trench attack. The target was 2 machine guns and 2 horse drawn wagons at a random spot on the trenches.

S! All Gen_Markov had an idea for a mission, "Capture the General". He volunteered to be capture first, lol. Actually it is a nice idea. It is a secondary mission. You have to complete a previous mission, most likely the photo recon. "A convoy with a General has been spotted. We want to capture him. He may have important papers. He was seen leaving town (X), headed for the (train, barge, airfield, river airfield, or Army Rear HQ at city Y)" We have a start and end point that will work on every map. A two seater labeled capture must be used. When you find the General's convoy, there will be a defensive AAA truck and an open bed truck. The General will be in an automobile. You will need to kill the AAA truck and then damage the General. At 50% damage he will fire a flare. This is his surrender signal. The two seater must land to pick him up. You could land in any field within 3 km. Then the plane must return to anywhere in friendly territory to be successful. The main problem is that the landing area can not be checked for a definite OK place to land, It would be dependent upon where you encounter him. The real purpose of this was for a dynamic campaign where if captured, the Generals papers give intel about either troop movements/location or strategic targets. If we use this in Flanders as a secondary to photo recon, it would not produce an additional target as it it would be very late. Instead of being a secondary, it could be a primary. At the beginning of a session you get a message from HQ that gives the appropriate info. Just like the subtitles for the bridge, aerodrome and factory. Then it would be done earlier in the session and it could provide a secondary. This is similar to the "Spy Mission" but with the problem of possible bad terrain to land on.

S! All Good news!!! The J99 server is back up an running. You can see they are already running missions. J99 Server will again be hosting FiF. The red team TS will be back on JG1 TS. S! All The JG1 Server will be running an open to all version of Flanders in Flames on Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:45 pm Eastern North American time. The mission lasts for 2 hours and 15 minutes. All are invited. For those familiar with the tournament version, there are some major differences. No death penalty. No wait period if shot down. No wait period after the server comes up. No waiting for green takeoff flare. All Factories are targets. All aerodrome attack targets are active. Remember it is not the hangars, just the big oil drums. The Front line recon now triggers a Trench attack mission that must be done by a plane named FLB The 1000 m high AAA fence that was over the trenches of each team has been moved to the middle of the front. Factories and Aerodrome targets get an X over them when killed Things that stay the same. The hidden recon is still hidden and just 1 out of 4. The Central side must find the Hidden Entente ship somewhere moving on a river. The Entente side must find the hidden train moving on somewhere on the Central side. Only one Arty spot mission is active. The Espionage mission is the same. There is a repeating display of objectives. If you join and want to know what mission to do, please ask in team chat. S! all For those on Blue team or red team that want to practice some missions, The JG1 Server is running a practice map. The start time on the cockpit closk is 10:45 am. It runs for 2 hours. Just like normal FIF. To reset the server just kill the red cross truck at the 2 seater base. It will start over. This will give the people a chance to check fuel usage and time to areas. gl

I ran it fine with a 570 card. A better card will look good but not solve this problem. The recovery option is a start and probably the best place to start. It is very strange that you can connect to other servers but not NW. I suspect that there is come file from their site that is not downloading. Their splash screen is not part of the actual mission and is downloaded separately. That might be the problem. Open RoF folder, Data folder, Multiplayer folder, Dogfight folder. Now Delete every thing in Dogfight folder. Do not worry. These are all files that have been downloaded to your machine when you join a server. As you go online they will be downloaded again. That is the objective. You want to be getting a fresh download from NW. If this does not work, I can go over some of the files on TS with you and we can see if something is missing.

S! Loopy Darn good question. In the past we have not had a maximum or minimum for pilot slots. We have relied on real life to set the numbers. Who can show up? Who is busy and can not show up? This has always lead to an imbalance in the number of players. That actually imitates real life. Neither side in WWI said "Oh, They only have 6 planes up today. We will only put up 6 planes." For the most part this imbalance has evened out. Please remember that one of the design goals of FIF was to have so many missions to accomplish over such a large area that each team would be forced to use small flights to accomplish most of the objectives. This meant that a small imbalance would not have a great effect. Many blame the loss of pilots due to FM changes. This is probably true. Many have probably moved on to DCS, BoS, BoM, War Thunder or World of Tanks. Considering this is the 100 year anniversary of the war, I would have expected much more interest in WWI aviation. Where are the great Canadian players that so dominated Red Baron 3D. Ah, well. We are left with two questions. 1. How do we get these pilots back? 2. What do we do if we can not get them back?

S! All We understand that Blue team is concerned with recent low turnout on the Wednesday session of FIF and the effect on scores. The Admins have been looking at this. The situation is that No. 42 Sq. has lost several players from this event. They were the powerhouse team usually fielding 10 to 12 pilots. We have not had enough pilots sign up to replace those numbers in that time slot. Please remember that while turnout does effect the ability to accomplish missions, in game events are very important. We had one Saturday session with 34 Blue team and 28 red team pilots. The score was a tie at 7 each. While the in game events and teamwork have over ridden the effect of player numbers in the past, the present Wednesday team imbalance is affecting the scores. We would like to hear from Blue team members as to their assessment of the situation and suggestions on how to move forward. Some of the options we have been looking at: 1. Cancel Wen. It works but there are people that only Fly Wen and they get left out. 2. Move players from Red team to Blue team. This requires people willing to switch sides and would take some time to organize even if people are willing to switch. If done at the end of Part A, these people would fly the same planes in part B.

S! Absolutely right. I should have said: The only mods allowed are rear twin machine guns for the DH4 and the DFW as well as twin rear or front machine guns on the HP and Gotha. No twin front guns on DH4. No weapons mods on any scout. Better?

S! All Just a reminder that Weapon mods are turned on. Please check your plane for weapons mods that you may have turned on. The only allowed weapons mods are for the HP, Gotha, DH4 and DFW. The only mods that are allowed are the twin guns for the the front or rear gunners. Please be sure that you do not have any other mods such as the cannons. Thank you for your attention to this.

S! All JG1 server may be down for a bit on 2 February 2016. The ISP is adding a router and aggregation switch. It is hoped that this will help all connections and TS. Not sure but this may also affect No.42 Squadron server and TS.
