  1. Are the people who make DCS any more trustworthy for doing what they say they'll do than the 777 team? Also, I hear a lot of people say that DCS is a "high fidelity" sim. What exactly does that mean? Because if it refers to graphics it doesn't look like they're anything special (not referring to terrain; stuff like the inside of the cockpit). If it refers to FM/Dms, what's the big improvement? In Barton's video, there was a guy flying around practically the whole time that had a huge cloud of black smoke billowing out behind him, and he didn't even seem to have much loss of performance from the way he was flying. Forget that the smoke cloud looked pretty hokey and that at times it looked like lightning was striking inside his storm cloud; how could a person that severely damaged fly around for so long? Most gun camera footage from the time shows the victim breaking up the way that Barton's victim did when he shot the tail end of his fuselage off in one burst, LOL (good one). There's probably a good reason.
  2. I would say it's mostly because it's SPADs. It seems like the AI flies some planes in RoF a lot better than others. Any BnZ plane uses stupid tactics; the S.E.5a is absolutely terrible. However: if you want hard practice, try fighting against Pups, Camels, D.VIIfs, or D.VIIIs set to ace. Veteran is good too, actually probably a lot more realistic as to what you would encounter against human adversaries in terms of how accurate their gunnery is; ace is ridiculously accurate and if you're flying against 2 or more it's almost impossible to avoid being hit....it's stupid the way they hang prop and hit you very hard inverted in the loop; but it's great practice for avoidance, which is mainly what I use Ace for. I've seen what you showed in your video happen quite of few times, but I never tried to isolate the exact circumstances the way you did. Since for practice I fly against 2 or 3 enemies simultaneously by myself, it usually happens to one of the enemies that I might not be concentrating on at that specific moment (hey where did that other guy go? Oh, a wreck on the ground). However I don't usually choose SPADs, S.E.5as, etc. as enemies. I figure if you can kill AI Pups-Camels-D.VIIfs-D.VIIIs-ect. in any plane you're practicing in, you can kill anything AI. I only use the AI for target practice....just about any human flies a lot more smart, but is not as good in marksmanship; and the AI generally manages to turn tighter than most humans are able to, and also has that irritating ability to know exactly when your gun sight has a hitting solution, and jinks out of the way, the way no human can. Anyway my guess is that what you were able to do so consistently with the SPAD, might be harder with the previously mentioned plane set....and some others obviously. Any Alb is flown very well by the AI also, but I wouldn't say it's immune to the self-crash thing.
  3. What was the AI skill level set on?
  4. Did you have a wingman? Somebody shot a couple of those guys off your tail. Was that an FW-190 you were in? What were those enemies? Looked like that last one you couldn't shake was a P-51. Of course I don't know a thing about DCS. But the graphics looked a little sub-par compared to other WWII sims I've seen recently. Would that be correct? BTW, that "defensive maneuvers" video you made saved my butt yesterday Lone Sopwith Pup fends off and escapes from 3 Alb D.II's with altitude, for a safe RTB. Felt great to make it out of that situation alive. Thanks!
  5. Thanks Brit, I downloaded the Video Pad editor; it sounds like something I could figure out (when I get around to it).
  6. Great video, Martin! Looks like you had a really great day! Nice Work!
  7. Wow! It sure does look pretty Thanks Klaiber and JG1 for the recognition! And congrats to all the rest who earned these outstanding rewards. S!
  8. Great video, very interesting! Sorry it ended that way, but the up side is that these videos will continue! S!
  9. I get the feeling this is how Butzzell feels explaining this stuff to us:
  10. Too many points riding on one mission. Also, the General is much easier to CAP than the Spy, so those 3 points will be a lot harder to get for one side than the other. Not good. Why not just have a spy mission for both sides; what's the real difference other than what the vehicle looks like? Limit the total points to 2 for any one sequence of missions....that's my opinion.
  11. I see what you did, there....
  12. A huge thank-you to the dedicated pilots listed above, and all those who are able to fly in FiF. S!
  13. Keep on coming to FiF and trying each week! S!
  14. Love it, you should post all your video settings some time.
  15. Nice....can't believe you guys found that train like that. I could search all session for it and never find it....I never have that kind of luck. Great job, you really saved us from a huge deficit. That D.VIII made a great defense of the train, against 3 of you! He saw you right away and fended off your first run on the train. He almost succeeded in his objective, being just that close to the end of the session. S!
  16. That's what yer pistol is for, mate 😉
  17. You guys really deserve this positive recognition. S!
  18. Who was that guy, he really flew the heck out of that D.XII. Usually when they get low like that, they're done; but he did great, you don't see that everyday. Great video!
  19. Fine work by all above, done against tough odds. Your awards are well earned. S!
  20. Posted a link to my video in my AAR for session 4. It's unedited but it shows what went on in that small part of the war. Hotlead: Yellow-nosed D.VII Razwald: Black-tailed D.VII Me: Dr.1
  21. Love those Camel skins! I always use that RNAS 10 one.
  22. Thanks for making that and getting it out before the next session! I was really looking forward to seeing it. So glad you guys realized the importance of that Breguette! It shows how one single action can affect an entire session. Also, GREAT cooperation between Loopy and you escorts! He actively called out contacts to you guys the entire flight. Razwald was every bit as valuable to me in our sortie. Great to have BH with us! Lastly, great call in saluting and crediting J30 for all the awesome work they do for our team. We couldn't win without them! I also got some decent footage of the first part of our General Capture defense. I hope I'll be able to post that after I get home from this weekend. Good luck to Red Team today! S!
  23. Was very glad to have you with us, Vik! S! and congrats
  24. Happy to see this! Great to see your efforts recognized, gents! I Salute you!
