  1. Awesome! Thanks!!
  2. I don't know about you guys, but I can only see the latest of HL's videos on Twitch. They only seem to stay for so long. Might be better to post them another way?
  3. For organizational purposes, post 'em here!
  4. Man, you should get paid as a consultant! What powers of observation! Nice work!
  5. Wow, fast response! Thank-you!!
  6. Really impressive how Barton kept his wing on after a collision; that would have killed me for sure. He claimed luck, but I see how he kept the injured wing high and spiraled in that direction to keep the pressure off of it... I never would have thought of that. Instincts like that and other things I've seen him do like use nearby water, or even how to crash quickly on the ground without killing himself are habits that I'd like to develop myself! Great cooperation and teamwork! S!
  7. WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS! READ NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE AND WANT TO PRESERVE YOUR SURPRISE ABOUT EVENTS. I saw it too, and although I thought it was a great movie, I didn't like the way they handled the flashbacks. Since they were short term....no age difference in people, places or often circumstances, it was often confusing. I mean, at the beginning of the movie, they used a subtitle to indicate the date and time; after that, nothing. At times the time of day was a clue that the scene time had changed; but at other times, nothing. Like when the pilot was flying around on his sortie, and they kept jumping back and forth in time in happenings during his flight; later in the movie it was finally more clear how the individual scenes were coming together, but earlier it wasn't clear at all. Is this a new bomber he's found, or the same one? Are these the same two 109s, or another pair that joined after the first two were shot down? Is that the same ship, or another one of dozens that were out there? In that respect I found it disjointed for a first time viewing. It's the kind of movie that when you watch it a couple of times more, you figure out and see what's going on more clearly. But in my opinion you shouldn't have to do that, it would have been very simple to put a quick time of day subtitle in there, and no, the cockpit views showing a glimpse of a clock weren't clear enough, and other scenes didn't even have that. Also, although I did love to see those planes in combat, the maneuvering they did was pretty anemic....wouldn't you do a little more than repeatedly turn back and forth if you had somebody on your tail? And I wanted to practically shout at the pilot: No, no! you're shooting too late! Lead him more and let him fly into the stream! It was as if he could only hit the enemy when the enemy passed directly in front of him. And that ammo sure lasted a suspiciously long time....and did you hear the rear gunner of the bomber firing back at our hero? They made it sound like a 20 mm! As if! Also what happened to the pilot at the end seemed unnecessary. Would you not make a landing approach that would end in front of friendlies? And what was the implication with the bomber, that he shot it down while gliding engine-off? If so, that was one heck of a glide. Nitpicky I guess. In any case, a great movie, and far, far less stupid than other war movies with aviation that I've seen. Definitely go see it, if you haven't already.
  8. I'd be interested in joining you for "serious" RoF flying on a regular basis, if you like. Although the FF and CC are a riot, I'm not sure I fit in with the antics and devil-may-care adventures of the "young gentlemen" PS something is killing your frame rates, you should be getting 60+ at all times in RoF (I was getting that with one GPU). Is that frame rate counter accurate? (I've had them read crazy inaccuracies with G-Sync enabled; the only one that's accurate for me now is the one built into my monitor). Do you have SLI enabled in nVidia Control Panel, and in RoF? Do you have Supersampling enabled, if so, at a very high setting? It can be a real frame rate killer. If all that fails, we could talk about removing one GPU. I've never used SLI in RoF, so don't know how good it works. Sometimes in poor compatibility games, a single card can actually work better.
  9. The turbo thing is pretty much standard on all processors now. The processor automatically adjusts it's speed based on it's processing load. It's able to increase it's speed by increasing it's internal voltage and other parameters. It's far better than having the processor run at high speed all the time, because it keeps the heat load low the majority of the time.
  10. Any "x50" or "xx50" series Nvidia GPU is pretty low. The throughput capability is always a lot less due to less bus width, fewer cores, slower clock speeds, etc. The 80 series has always been the best standard GPU, not including the ultra high limited series like your 90/95's, TI's, Titans, etc. Obviously the 80's and all the others are super expensive, even prohibitive for many. The 70 series is normally considered a best buy because there is a steep price drop compared to an 80 card, with performance that is nearly indistinguishable from the 80, especially at 1080p resolutions or less. Another consideration is that Radeon is made by AMD, and might therefore be more compatible, if you're definitely going with AMD. Motherboards supporting AMDs will support Crossfire, while those supporting Intel will be made for SLI. Single GPU, there won't be any problem... and it's entirely possible your MB will support either. Just something to consider.
  11. @Barton: I have the CH Fighterstick USB. Could you tell us what happened to your Warthog? Honestly, I love the CH as well, always have.....especially the software capabilities. However, even a CH might need rebuilding after a long time, and it uses old-time potentiometer technology. I made a series on how to install new pots at one time, but the pictures are probably lost now due to the whole photobucket thing. That's not to say that the "old time" technology doesn't work just fine. However, the Hall Effect sensors are supposed to be more accurate and more reliable. Technically, they are (more accurate); but can you really discern more than 256 discreet positions in any one axis? I was actually going to upgrade to a Warthog if my CH ever wore out (it's been rebuilt). It just won't wear out. In any case, I would say to anybody who needed a CH stick rebuilt, to send it to me and I would do it for free. Even though the potentiometers aren't available anymore, I can switch the Throttle pot with whatever X or Y axis pot is acting up, and the Throttle pot is guaranteed to be good, and since one uses it on 100%, 95% of the time, you would not notice any problem at all 99.9% of the time (does that make sense to anybody?) IMHO the best thing about the CH is, beyond it's accuracy, is the physical ease of movement. Yeah, it's plastic, but at least the bearings seem to work forever. S!
  12. This applies to the version of Windows 10 which is current at this time; the "creator's update". I don't know why Microsoft wants to stop you from using Control Panel. They have another, new interface under "Settings" (accessed by Win + X menu, which Control Panel used to be accessed from) , which I would have no problem with, if you could access all of the functions that you used to be able to access from Control Panel. However, using that interface, there is a LOT you can't access. For me personally, one of the biggest ones is being able to make an image backup of your computer. Why they would want to make that a secret is beyond me, in this day and age. So here is how you can do it. Right-click on your desktop, and choose New > Shortcut. Then enter: %windir%\system32\control.exe Then enter "Control Panel" or whatever you want to call it. Once the shortcut is on your desktop, you can drag it to your taskbar if you want to, which is what I always do, considering you can execute programs from there at any time, with one click, and not clutter up your desktop. Honestly I don't mind them getting rid of crap as long as there's another way to do it. If there's another easy way to access all of the previous capabilities of Control Panel, I'd be happy to know that; but as far as I know, there isn't right now, and it seems like they want it that way on purpose I realize this post may quickly become obsolete.
  13. Great tips! I had no idea you could "Take Control" ahead of time! If you do that, does the AI gunner still have the ability to act, or must you do all the rear (or front) gunnery? On my gaming keyboard, I have keys that I can record macros. I made one that takes me into the position, takes control, and nestles to gun sight. However, it doesn't work reliably. Also, it can somehow get out of sync so that it doesn't do the same thing when going out and back in. So it's not really a good solution....I like your ideas, but mainly wondering about the AI still working. Although it's not to be trusted most of the time, I find that when set on long range, it makes an infallible warning device for incoming attackers that you wouldn't normally see, or see in time. Like that time Weiss warned us of incoming Eindeckers when we were flying our F.E.2b's!
  14. Wow Hotlead, you are so amazing in your 2-seaters, jumping to all positions and accurately hitting anybody who's anywhere near you! I have no idea how you change so fast, you're in and you're firing almost instantly. Seems like any time I get into a turret the gun is always cock-eyed and even jams itself trying to turn the opposite way I am, the whole time the enemy is firing. Not to mention wounding and oiled engines seem to have almost no effect on you. I don't think I've seen anybody do what you do as well as you do that trick. There were guys like Bender/Darling who were great together, but they never did it solo anywhere near as well as you, as far as I know. After you guys shut down, I kept flying my Camel, and in a while BH_Dudley showed up and we teamed up. Later after the server had rotated, Butzzell came on and we all had a lot of fun for quite a while, and I switched to Dr1. I saw Ricky Recon on the server also, although he wasn't on our TS channel. We all had some great battles! Big JG1 salute! You are impressive!
  15. Great job, Baron; I was rooting for you the whole time
  16. Always a lot of fun to watch! Never miss one.
  17. Your parents must feel a solemn pride, for having laid so costly a sacrifice upon the alter of freedom. S!
  18. Great work, Somnus!
  19. Well done all, and especially those long-term active corps of pilots. S!
  20. Well done all! Really! This squadron is becoming a well oiled machine in RoF, with everybody contributing outstanding skills to the goals of victory and fun for JG1. S!
  21. Some suggestions for possible changes that might be more in line with real-historical missions or objectives that could increase difficulty: Add another AI ace so that it becomes a flight of two. I like the idea that the planes they fly are better than anything the other side normally has; kind of like the appearance of brand new fighter types or prototypes given to aces to evaluate. This could make it more difficult to get the mission done and generate the secondary, or endanger other missions on both sides. Add another Arty Spot or Recon mission (not necessarily increase the total amount of missions). These were the most common types of historical missions done by 2-seaters. Make Balloon Defense a mission for each side. It's too easy to shoot down a balloon in this sim, but it's hard to defend one successfully. The actual target balloon could be either known or unknown to the attacking side; so they might have to shoot down more than one before they get credit. The attackers would get one point for killing the balloon, but only the correct balloon; the defenders one point for successfully defending it (a 2-point swing). Both sides would have to attack and defend. Many possible variations.
  22. This Sunday is my 34th anniversary.....and every other Sunday after that I wouldn't be home and available to fly until the evening (1600 GMT is noon my time), until well after Labor Day. Just bad luck in timing, but you know I'd come if at all I could, I think what you're doing is absolutely great!
