  1. This is a very well deserved award! Thank you for all the time and effort you and Stetcher have given in the development of the GS CloD campaign. Countless hours have been dedicated by you towards the end result which, after some hardware failures, is finally coming to fruition. Keep in mind, you are the only pilot to have earned this award in II./JG1.
  2. I neglected to answer this one yesterday, I apologize. Yes, we do use formations and tactics that were developed throughout the early 20th century. It's hard to ignore lessons taught by Werner Mölders when you go back to the Great War, though. Therefore our tactics may not be period specific. We also use TeamSpeak and rely heavily on wingmanship to accomplish our goals and to increase our survival.
  3. Salute, Zerfass! My name is Britchot, I am the XO of JG1. Although I'm out of town on a business trip, I will add some information to what Hotlead has already provided. His description of our RoF group is correct, it is the one facet that I am unable to fly very often due to family balance. Our WWII group, II./JG1, consists of one predominantly European squadron and a predominantly North American squadron with a headquarters section. The roster boasts over 25 pilots but we have been somewhat dormant, awaiting the continuation of our primary online tournament, Ghost Skies. Ghost Skies will be resuming shortly and I anticipate our tempo to return to 12+ pilots per scheduled night. We fly Team Fusion's modded Cliffs of Dover, mainly, with several pilots gathering on Battle of Stalingrad and DCS's WWII aircraft. It is important to note that we have a third group that participates in DCS around the genre of the Cold War, flying the MiG-21 and -15, along with dabbling in the more modern aircraft and even helicopters. That group is anticipating the release of DCS World 2.0, where we hope the online play can expand as well as correcting some visibility concerns. As you see, we have quite a reasonable amount of flying, centered around the German air forces of three generations. Klaiber, our CO is out this weekend but I would expect a response from him tomorrow, to include scheduling a meeting on TeamSpeak. I look forward to having the opportunity to fly with you.
  4. All this talk is making me want to OC my rig. I upgraded almost two years ago and left it stock, telling myself that I'll OC it when it feels slow. It's pretty good but not new anymore
  5. As I get older, closer to beyond military age, and now that I have a son that could very well follow the footsteps of myself, his grandpa, or two of his great-grandfathers: I see war footage and news in an vastly different way. I wonder about their families, what they were like as kids, what their goals were and why they fought. Plus, with all my friends I've been reconnecting with lately that stayed active for many years later than I did and aren't the same: I also wonder how the guys in the photo were if they did make it through, how society treated them, and how they have moved on.
  6. Stop thinking and do!
  7. yeah, open beta
  8. I'm familiar with that breed of bird
  9. Bah, open beta is one step I am reluctant to take. I will be buying the L-39, though. It will be a good step towards two-seating again.
  10. As long as World 2 has a net code that can hold more than 12 people on it, sure. I see it as a good late-war alternative, certainly. I think each one is the best at what they represent though neither one will have the versatility that 1946 had in terms of aircraft. However, that's what you get for having such deep fidelity, a lot of resources to make a single aircraft.
  11. I think I'll be setting aside to finally set up a control profile for the 109 and 190 in DCS once World 2.0 drops. That is if I find time between falling in love with the MiG-21 again
  12. I like how he gets on the interviewer about asking what his ata was during landing! It's quite touching how he got nostalgic at the end about his wingman, Heinz Marquardt, landing to talk to his parents. I'm going to need to remember the phrases, "Drilling for oil" and "California Giant Slip." haha! That's next on my watch list for today
  13. I watched 1/2 of it, I'll watch the other half tomorrow at work. It's always nice to see the actual pilots chime in, I'm happy to have seen it but saddened that there are fewer and fewer left. My German is too good for those subtitles, though. I keep catching words that he's saying that aren't translated in the text. However, it's not good enough to watch without them!
  14. I've updated this list to the current approved 15th MEU list. Also, I have linked Armaholic.com to all the mods I recommend. If you want one I don't, use google Also required: Community Based addons All in ArmA Terrain Pack - I replaced this with "All in ArmA Terrain Pack Lite." This has reduced textures that could help with performance. Klaiber, this one should benefit you the most. Task Force Arrowhead Radio - Should be required. Client-Side Mod List Approved ShackTac Group HUD - I love the SA this gives, it's the small circle at the bottom that shows squadmates that are close by and a simple compass with the cardinal headings Tao's Folding Map - I like this because I can have a map that takes up 1/2 the screen so I can keep my eye on the game while referencing nearby, drop it if you don't think you'll use it. VTS Simple Hand Gestures - I haven't used it but I like what it promises, could be a waste of HDD, though. Use "~ (tilde)" to bring up the commo rose. LHM Glasses - Undecided, it's kind of cool that sunglasses actually shade the light in 1st person, though. Keeping it for now. Weapon Safety - Took me a while to figure out the key, use "Shift + ~ (tilde)" to safe/arm any weapon. I like the idea of avoiding accidental discharges on the FOBs. FSF SacVentral - HALO jump with your own backpack on your chest, heck yeah! Also carry two backpacks if you really need to (I've done this IRL for injured people that couldn't carry their own) TAW View Distance - Keeping it. Use "U" to bring up the interface and change the LOD on the fly. Great for changing your performance real-time. Blake's PINS - This is an ArmA 2 mod that helps with bombing I don't find it necessary for what I play in ArmA. Dynamic Movement - You can jump over walls instead of stepping. It's had some buggy actions for me, I want to test it more offline. Also "CTRL+V" allows you to climb certain things. Switch Weapons While Moving - Yes, obvious in my eyes. There is some control setup necessary to use this mod. Compass and Watch Enlarger - My screen is big enough, this became a hassle. Remove if you didn't have a problem before. ShackTac Stamina Bar - This puts a bar in the bottom left so you can know just how tired you are, see the video below. Outlaw's Mag Repack - Good for those long outings to reduce clutter and maximize magazine usage.
  15. psst, Trev: http://forum.jg1.org/topic/2663-arma-3-squad/?p=14268
  16. Good point!
  17. There was an additional video released on this game, looks pretty interesting. I like the free-for-all feeling of NPC and players alike. I do hope that the amount of "loot" one can carry is kept to realistic levels. The way the assault rifle is on the backpack in the video is cool and adds to the immersion. I never liked how I could carry a ton of crap in other MMOs.
  18. Yeah, no one wants another CloD release debacle. That makes me as giddy as a schoolgirl! Finally we can be Tusk 3-1 and 3-2 instead of 3-1 and 4-1.
  19. Not really. There were some clipping and sound issues. Most significant change I can see is aircraft weapon damage has been upped against armored vehicles. The movement with binoculars is good but I rarely use them. The "closed" status on the Gorgon is obscure to me, if it means fixed then there's another IFV we can take across the map
  20. Trev and I got a little in this afternoon. I played crew chief/sensor until Trev got off then I did some CAS work of my own. Here's a couple of shots while we waited for extraction. You can see my charges in the corner waiting to blow the Huron (Chinook) in place.
  21. I wouldn't know where to begin updating that anymore...
  22. I'm looking forward to the F-14 and F-18 modules in DCS.
  23. A "Rustang" as the guy accurately put it.
  24. man, that's pretty awesome!
