Karl Spackler Posted April 19, 2017 Report Posted April 19, 2017 This week is all Allan Holdsworth. He passed on Sunday. RIP Allan. You were a genius. Caution: jazz fusion guitar content. Quote
Klaiber Posted June 23, 2017 Author Report Posted June 23, 2017 Been recently listening to a lot of Thin Lizzy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QreSqOBDPWI Great freakin' band. Phil Lynott is definitely missed. Quote

J5_Hotlead Posted August 12, 2017 Report Posted August 12, 2017 I just heard this tonight and thought this was a pretty awesome cover of the ARMA III theme. This guy is talented! Klaiber 1 Quote
Razwald Posted August 12, 2017 Report Posted August 12, 2017 This is a re edit for any one who saw my first post for those who haven't I couldn't figure out how to post a you tube video with out linking it. So I gave up. I was at work today and had a song in my head and I for some reason decided the lyrics should be changed not necessarily a song I'm listening to but it was in my head none the less. Production work suck as a machinist. Its Drop Kick Murphy's Johnny I Hardly Knew You. The chorus instead of "We had guns and drums and drums and guns" I for some reason decided that "We had sons of guns and guns of sons" was more fitting. Here is the song for those who want to hear it Klaiber 1 Quote

Klaiber Posted August 13, 2017 Author Report Posted August 13, 2017 I couldn't figure out how to post a you tube video with out linking it. So I gave up. Hi Raz, I fixed it for you. In order to get it to pop up as a video, rather than a link, use the URL at the top of the browers (rather than the Share button). It should work then. I love the Dropkick Murphys. Great band. The "guns and drums and drums and guns" part of Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye has always reminded me a lot of lines from The Foggy Dew. Perhaps that's intentional. Here's a version from Sinead O'Connor and The Chieftains: Quote
Razwald Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Thanks Klaiber, Ya I tried ever share option. Now that I know how to do it you may have unleashed a monster. I love music will listen to anything but rap and country. I've noticed that reverb has made a comeback lately. Bands like the Spyrals, Black Angels, The Night Beats and The Allah-las. Seem to use it a lot. Klaiber 1 Quote
Klaiber Posted August 15, 2017 Author Report Posted August 15, 2017 you may have unleashed a monster I hope so! Personally, it's great to hear new music. This is one of my favorite threads, to be honest. I really like the Black Angels. Their album Phosphene Dream is a great trip. Favorite songs off that would probably be Yellow Elevator #2 and Phosphene Dream. But my wife prefers their albums Directions to See a Ghost and Passover. I'll have to look up the Spyrals, The Night Beats and The Allah-las. If you really like neo-psychedelia, you should check out the Swedish band called Dead Man. Razwald 1 Quote
Razwald Posted August 15, 2017 Report Posted August 15, 2017 Never heard of Dead Man. Haunted man sounds like a combo of Talking Heads, Nothing but Flowers and Rusted Roots, Ecstasy. Black Angels I like Passover and Indigo Meadow. By your last post if you like that Night Beats Sonic Bloom Album might be up your alley. Here is an example of old school reverb from the Spyrals -Hawkeye- and Klaiber 2 Quote
Razwald Posted August 15, 2017 Report Posted August 15, 2017 Reignwolf he is a one man wrecking machine. At times its just him his guitar and a kick drum live. Only has a few songs out for download. Quote
Klaiber Posted August 16, 2017 Author Report Posted August 16, 2017 Never heard of Dead Man. Haunted man sounds like a combo of Talking Heads, Nothing but Flowers and Rusted Roots, Ecstasy. Yeah, I can see that. Especially in that specific song. All in all, they're kind of on the folk rock side of psychedelia. Here is an example of old school reverb from the Spyrals I like the Spyrals a lot. They remind me a lot of the 13th Floor Elevators. Reignwolf he is a one man wrecking machine. He definitely is! He reminds me a lot of a more blues soaked version of Jack White. Speaking of dirty psych infused rock, do you listen to Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats at all? They're a great band. I've heard them described as: "the original Alice Cooper band jamming in a cell with early Black Sabbath and the Stooges," all the while singing about the "soul-chilling autumn" of the Summer of Love. I'm also a big fan of Elder: Razwald 1 Quote
Razwald Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 No I haven't heard of Uncle Acid and the Dead Beats sounds like something I could get into. Speaking of the 13th floor Elevators I'm under the suspicion that they may have influenced The Black Angels Some what. Also the the Night Beats, Catch a Ride to the Sonic Bloom has a drone psychedelic feel and transfers into a 13th Elevator feel. He definitely is! He reminds me a lot of a more blues soaked version of Jack White. I agree And if you like that drone psychedelic feel Pocahaunted has it. Bethany Cosentino moved from that to a 60's style California pop band Best Coast. The song The Sun Was High and so Was I is good low fi fuzz guitar song. Best Coast isn't my thing but that song is great. I'm sure you have heard of Tame Impala, Kevin Parker produced this. Quote
Razwald Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 I had a lot of stuff bookmarked on youtube that I wanted to look into more for expanding my collection a lot of it has been blocked. Quote
Klaiber Posted August 17, 2017 Author Report Posted August 17, 2017 The Black Angels have a lot of the Velvet Underground in them too. Tame Impala is good. I have their first two albums (Innerspeaker and Lonerism). But I don't have their two EPs, or their third (most recent) album. Their song "Elephant" got stuck in my head for weeks upon weeks when it was released. Kevin Parker sounds so much like John Lennon at times that it's scary. Melody's Echo Chamber is great. I can definitely hear the Tame Impala influence. When googling her, I saw that she was in a serious accident recently: https://consequenceofsound.net/2017/06/melodys-echo-chamber-hospitalized-following-serious-accident-cancels-tour-dates/ I hope she's okay. Btw, have you heard of American Sharks at all? There album is only 20 minutes long, but it's a juggernaut. Either way, I passed on Reignwolf and The Spyrals to my wife. I think she'll like them too. Karl Spackler Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 More modern prog metal guitar... And this weird Japanese thing which is a fairly amazing modern proggy jazz in two chords... Klaiber and Razwald 2 Quote
Klaiber Posted August 17, 2017 Author Report Posted August 17, 2017 Very cool! Guthrie Govan reminds me a lot of Robert Fripp. I like the Japanese thing, though I'm not sure if I can completely appreciate it (as modern Jazz is a bit lost on me). Speaking of Japanese bands, I was recently turned on to Ningen Isu (Human Chair). Honestly, if you're into Hard Rock / Metal, they're amazing. Very popular long running career in Japan, though they've unfortunately never really crossed over into North America. They're hugely influenced by Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Budgie, and King Crimson (speaking of Fripp). Honestly, any band that lists Budgie as an influence is alright in my book. Budgie are amazing. Razwald and Karl Spackler 2 Quote

Ya I can hear the Velvet Underground now that you say it. You don't have there self title debut? Its good check it out 41 Mosquitoes and Slide Through My Fingers are great songs I don't like there new album its Electro Pop. I don't mind electronic music but that album wasn't for me It has 2 songs if that I like if that. I have not heard of American Sharks. I like it. Klaiber 1 Quote

At the 9 and 18 second mark it sound like the chord progression for Children of the Grave More modern prog metal guitar... I like it I think I heard some Joe Satriani, Rush's YYZ and possibly some Dream Theater in it. May be I should come here to look for music instead of the rabbit hole of youtube. Quote
Karl Spackler Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 ... instead of the rabbit hole of youtube. That's all I'm really doing. But the stuff is so good. There are so many great instrumental players out there that will never get a look because there's really no money in that genre. The stuff is basically a vaginal drying agent, and when you follow the money in the music industry, that's where it leads. Quote
