Barton Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 There is a lot of confusion as to which Jasta and pilot flew this plane, and there is apparently photo evidence that MvR himself may have flown it. I like this scheme and was wondering if anyone would be so generous as to put this on an Alb D.Va with my emblem on the side and a red vertical stabilizer and rudder. Lipfert 1 Quote
-Hawkeye- Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 I'd love to do that for you, but wouldn't be able to start it until after April 8 (assuming a successful escape from Florida back home via airlines). Quote
Vonrd Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 I'll give it a shot. Joker on the side? Barton 1 Quote

Vonrd Posted March 30, 2020 Report Posted March 30, 2020 Take a look and let me know of any changes you want. I increased the saturation of the purple and green to more closely match the image above. Maybe too much? https://www.dropbox.com/s/frfngcmotxov5kx/! JG1 AlbatrosD5 Barton.bmp?dl=0 Barton 1 Quote
Vonrd Posted March 30, 2020 Report Posted March 30, 2020 Oops... I missed the red v stab and rudder request. Will change that in the final Barton 1 Quote
Barton Posted March 30, 2020 Author Report Posted March 30, 2020 Well I would say leave the wings stock. I thing the purple and green in that image are exaggerated Quote
Vonrd Posted March 30, 2020 Report Posted March 30, 2020 OK... still, take a look. It actually looks pretty good to me. The stock FC looks a bit washed out IMO. Barton 1 Quote
Vonrd Posted March 30, 2020 Report Posted March 30, 2020 So, just change the V stab / rudder to red? Quote
Barton Posted March 30, 2020 Author Report Posted March 30, 2020 Actually, just make the rudder green like the rest of the tail section. Quote
Vonrd Posted March 30, 2020 Report Posted March 30, 2020 Easy peasy. I'll get it done tomorrow. Now that you're back flying, what do you want for the other planes? You currently have a DR1 but I think it's ported over from ROF. Is it still what you want? Quote
Vonrd Posted March 30, 2020 Report Posted March 30, 2020 Updated with green rudder: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ew7lm37325p5d6s/! JG1 AlbatrosD5 Barton.dds?dl=0 Klaiber and Barton 1 1 Quote
DeFreest Larner Posted March 30, 2020 Report Posted March 30, 2020 Good choice. Always thought that plane looked super cool. Barton and Klaiber 1 1 Quote
Barton Posted March 31, 2020 Author Report Posted March 31, 2020 I'll have to request the emblem be moved rearward on the fuselage so it does not cover the lettering under the cockpit. As it is the lettering sticks out on either side. Otherwise it is perfect, and I scored 4 kills (Balloon, 1PL Camel, Random Dolphin, and AI 2 seater) on my first outing with it flying with Dudley on the J5 server (although it was really low population). In case of the last, from our Paint Policy: 3. Personal victory markings, known as Abschussbalken (kill bars) did not exist within the Luftstreitkräfte (German Air Arm) of the First World War. As a result, their use is prohibited within JG Nr. I. Quote
Barton Posted March 31, 2020 Author Report Posted March 31, 2020 Just a good memory. I’ll leave the kill markings to the II./JG1 side and WW2. Whenever we get a tournament for it that will count kills anyway Heinrich and Klaiber 1 1 Quote
Klaiber Posted March 31, 2020 Report Posted March 31, 2020 If you wanted to do something different, you could always use corn plasters: https://jg1.org/richthofen/dicta/paint-policy/ Quote 4. Counting bullet holes on aircraft was a form of sport by pilots and ground crews, however. Bullet holes were repaired with a small bit of airplane fabric, and were painted with the attacker’s national emblem (a roundel) and the date of the shooting. Called “corn plasters” (hühneraugenpflaster), these early form of honor markings are allowed as a way to dress up a personal paint scheme. But, they're not technically kill markings. Quote
Barton Posted March 31, 2020 Author Report Posted March 31, 2020 I might use those to denote times I got wounded or heavily damaged and still made it home in FiF Quote

I find it really cool to look over my skin and see how close I came to 'going West' You become strangely proud of those little marks before long! I also thought of doing something similar - denoting times wounded, or other close calls, for my next SPAD skin. Give me a shout if you're ever looking to add some USAS-roundel-patches to your collection Heinrich 1 Quote
