Oculus is releasing their Oculus Rift S. Supposed to be better optics, but the big plus I see is the tracking sensors are built into the headset. Gives you room scale VR while eliminating the need for external sensors, each of which needs its own USB port and full room scale uses three of them.

Yes, FC allows many things to be changed for the better. One example will be bridges. The bridge will be the target. No AAA on the bridge. There might be an MG nearby.   Also if it is like BoX, there will be people walking around the airfields. Much more life. The map will be much easier to understand.

    Hi Baer,

i understanding to you. In fact the Spad C.XIII was not build to maneuvering fight. His primary task was zoom and boom. This is not mine words, but Rene Fonck said. On other side - very good dogfight plane was Spad D.VII, especially with 185 hp engine. Maybe we will have him in FC too, but it is not official (maybe my presume only). In RoF had some planes not very correct FMs before last patch few years ago. Typical examples are Pup, Camel, Dolphin, Spad XIII, D.VII (first serie), D.VIII, Dr.1, Halb. CL.II... It was result to simplified physic. Some important abilities was impossible to be create. Now is situation different, and planes is so close to reality how is possible. Of course, it is also related to the level of HW.

Last but not least is fact, that FM of the planes of the FC is not finished. Every planes are still in progress in all areas.

Salute and personally I looking forward to every plane in the FC from both sides

Finally got around to updating IL2 last night.  Love the PD.III in VR!  It appears more compact in VR than 2D.  I loaded up RoF just to check the apparent size differences.  Same size, but the VR experience is much better.

Also flew a pattern in the P-47.  Got it up and down in one piece, but will have to do some studying on systems and engine operation.  Remember, I'm just a lowly Sailplane pilot.  Once we get more than an airspeed indicator, altimeter, variometer and compass I'm pretty much lost.

All of the planes in FC seem "more compact" to me, than they do in RoF.  From my point of view (non-VR), the pilot's position is somewhat forward of what it is in RoF.  Therefore, when you pull back your FOV fully, you can't see as much.

Not saying this is correct or incorrect....just different, and it will take some getting used to.  Honestly, if I remember right, RoF started out kind of like this; then later they changed the default home view to be further back for a greater FOV.  This is helpful in the game, but not necessarily as realistic or true to life.

If it was me personally, I'd ask them to make it like RoF; but I can understand if they don't.  Everything is a compromise in these sims, with respect to reality.

Nothing wrong with using TrackIR for war flying and VR for casual flying.

You just can’t beat the immersion of VR, but the current generation headsets arn’t there as far as resolution is concerned. That said, I play Elite Dangerous exclusively in VR, even though my 34 inch curved monitor renders photo real. It’s the difference between being in the simulation as opposed to looking in through a window from the outside.

The Oculus is first gen commercial VR. Second gen will double the resolution and third gen will double it again. I’ll be skipping the second gen. Third gen will require an all new computer and video card. BTW, third gen will really mess with our minds.

TrackIR is now and always will be the only way when seated to easily look behind. That’s the downside of the “reality†part of VR, you have to be able to twist your shoulders and neck 180 degrees to see behind like you do in real life. I’m a long time past being able to do that.

If you think about it, if it ever became mandatory for everybody in a flight sim, the younger, more flexible and pain-free guys will do a lot better than us old guys....which is the way it is in the real world.  Probably as it should be, if reality is the primary concern!  Heck, I remember getting a sore neck when I first started using TIR.  Of course they said that was a sign that you just needed to speed up your curves.

Someday, maybe they'll add actual G effects too.  You'll wear a suit that inflates and has the opposite effect as a real G suit for pilots.  The more G's you pull in the sim, the more it inflates by your head and squeezes the blood away from your brain.  Then the young guys definitely will have the edge

Luft, if you purchased the early access, you have purchased the complete volume 1. As the volume 1 content gets finished it will be added to your game at no additional cost.

Installed the Oculus on my flight sim workstation.  Checked the box in Oculus Home to allow unknown applications.

FC needs Steam VR.  I didn’t have a Steam account, so the first step was to create one.

After creating the account, it wasn’t totally clear how to install Steam VR.  It did turn out to be easy enough.

I opened FC and checked the VR box in graphics.  Then closed the game.

Put the Oculus headset on and launched FC again.

Oculus Home started up, and Steam started with a box asking to install Steam VR.

Followed the Steam VR installation instructions and done.

The SPAD and Dr.1 are pretty cool in VR.  Looking forward to more scenery and airplanes.
