  1. Looks to be a scratch and dent sale at VIRPIL. 2 grips and a deck mount joystick base marked down. If this is something you have been wanting might be your chance to save some dough. The base is 26% off with 10% off the grips. VIRPIL EU - B-Stock - Shop (virpil-controls.eu)
  2. Came across this the other day. It was printed in 2007 as Walter never wanted to write the book but was encouraged to do so by friends and family. WHAT a book. The detail is amazing. Obviously he kept journals and took lots of personal pictures. SO wonderful to see this stuff come to life. Walter died in 2015 so very thankful that he shared this with the world.
  3. I enjoy this sim so much more than IL-2. When the VR finally is released I think that you will as well. I don't use it, so I get the chance to enjoy this now. PS... I have been using the Odyssey 49" curved monitors for both my driving and flight sim and now the 57" version is out. I don't know.... just might have to upgrade.
  4. BB-35 back on the waves again. That was pretty fast I thought. Sure nice to see something such as this and good news for a change
  5. "Legends and Lies The Patriots" is on one of the Fox channels and I have always felt that the American Revolutionary War was one of the areas of military history I had not expended much effort and have made minimal inroads on correcting this. I saw a couple of episodes from Season 2 and they were pretty good. I have not been able to check the accuracy but so far there have not been any instances that were out of line with what I remember.
  6. "The Enemy Below" it will hold your attention and an honorable mention to "Lifeboat" if you have not seen it definitely worth a peek. Walter Slezak plays a heck of a role.
  7. Pre-release view
  8. It is quite well written, I know that audible books have their advantages but this one I think would play better in your own head. No, not C.S. Forrester.... but really smooth read, it just flows.
  9. I call that bold talk for a one eyed fat man......
  10. Just got this one, well recommended by the jacket reviews and it has not disappointed. A good easy read, I can really use that right now.
  11. Hey.... FWIW.... I put Sirius XM radio in my cars and I really have been enjoying it a lot. It comes out to less than $100 a year and the NO commercials is worth more than that alone. The first couple of months I probably said "wow.... I have not heard that in years" about 100 times. The car stereo place told me to just take the free subscription for however long it lasted ... 60 days... maybe 90.... and then not renew and they would come back with a better priced offer. Also you didn't have to cancel through some process that you would forget or be unable and get re-enrolled. It stops, that is part of the deal, you have to make the effort to keep it going. I have been driving between San Antonio and Fort Worth a lot... and it has been a real treat.
  12. Hey that's pretty neato.... I played DEADLINE by INFOCOM back when we got our IBM 8086 computer. Had to use floppies, we couldn't afford the 1 meg hard drive, it was $1,000
  13. Beech 18 or DC-3... if it is NOT dripping you are out of oil.
  14. Ho Ho Ho from DCS..... 50% off sale.... sort of....
  15. The RNAV chart showed up in our ops today along with the SafeTaxi chart for the ramp. I guess it hit the internet and exploded.
  16. I really didn't think that it would come to this but apparently the Collings foundation has pulled the plug on their wonderful collection of flyable aircraft and they are no longer going to allow them to depart the Earth. I hope I read this wrong.... maybe someone here will correct me that I have it incorrect. This is really sad, I grew up with the CAF in HRL and that was the CONFEDERATE Airforce... not the more recent politically correct version. Great bunch of guys and we had a blast down in South Texas back in the day and it was even non-radar back well into the 80's. Maybe they will sell off their collection and allow others to operate and enjoy these machines. They do JUST FINE...... I can't think of a single incident that was anything other than pilot error. The problem is once again a supreme shortage of skilled aviators that spent THOUSANDS (and TENS of thousands) of hours flying learning their craft in lieu of the multi-hundred hour managers that push buttons and call it flying. I have said it a million times, I am so glad that I lived and flew when I did. Yeah, the kids today my 10xs the money I did with the easiest schedule imaginable.... but I wouldn't trade for anything.
  17. With live POV cameras, flying under the helmet and with digital gyro stabilization.... they fly a lot more easily than you would think. Yeah, a lot of dough and time building but the problem I always had with RC aircraft was the flew like models (twitchy) and once you had them up and flew around it quickly became... ok... so now what? Now these models can do things and are enjoyable to fly which REALLY makes the experience more fun and something to look forward to instead of the continual dread of what if I munch it?? I never liked the gas powered helicopters because of the enormous exhaust plume coming out the bottom of the fuselage so when the electrics became more powerful and viable that was so much better. Then the first time you see a real turbine helicopter you understand what the REAL reason for developing that engine was all about, they are perfect for rotors. As the models get larger and heavier they lose a lot of the twitchyness and fly very realistically.
  18. One of the guys I work with flew the C-130s snagging satellites. I think he has 3 recoveries. Then he went on the C-21 where I met him. We were at the O club and he was talking about it when he flew Hillary after the election but before the inauguration. She and Bill were not eligible for the big airplanes yet and she complained about that fact continuously. He said that after the first flight with her they adopted the callsign "Broomstick 1"
  19. Yeah you can see Brubaker's name at 0:52
  20. The book covers Howard and his achievements in all interests which are many, but emphasized the importance of the aviation, technology and genius not the eccentric and sad years of his life. The Beemans? Well... you have to chomp on something while you are reading....
  21. This is a "Lightning Sale" which means there is probably one (1) of these available. A MOST excellent deal on a very quality kit. If you are a fan of the Dr. I and want a really nice model here is a deal. This is being posted about 2:30 Central Friday October 26... so it will be gone quickly. MENG 1/24th scale Fokker Dr. I Lightning Deals - Sprue Brothers Models LLC
  22. Thanks buddy, this was a lot of fun. We had the American Fighter Aces Association reunion in San Antonio exactly 1 year ago. Duke and I looked really old. All the WW II guys are gone and not many were in Korea and only 2 in Vietnam. The end of the story Duke tells about Willie wanting to eject is that they held off ejecting until they were over the water and when he made the call eject eject eject he said all I got out was EEJ..... and he was out because "hair trigger" Willie wasn't waiting at all. There was also a comment from Willie that the fire was a lot closer to him than Duke. That's me with the Marine Fighter instructor of the year getting in some ice time. We have a lot of fun and I am still working on getting him on DCS.
