  1. Ho Ho Ho.... time to let go.... of some of that dough..... Well... not that much. STEAM SALE... I saw U-boat for $8?? Welcome to Steam (steampowered.com)
  2. I got to train Andy Allen a 3 time shuttle pilot in his new jet and when he came back for recurrent a year later this came up. Fly a Starfighter – F-104 Flight Training is Now Available to Licensed, Qualified Pilots, at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida He lived almost across the street from the place in Florida. Then, it was $20,000 for 4, 1 hour training flights. I asked him if he flew the 104 and Edwards and he said no... but of course he always wanted to do so. I asked him, "Is this something we need to go do?" and he pulled on his chin and said.... yeah, I will go do that with you! We were getting set to schedule and the damn pandemic thing came along and they shut down. NOW... it is $40,000 they doubled the cost. He came through a couple of months ago and we talked about it again and said nah.... too much dough this time.
  3. HAHAHA..... RUNNING at the wrong speed.... when I played it with the Johnny Rebs.... them bluebellies was running... don't know if the speed was right or wrong, but they were skee-dadlin......
  4. My fix was the usual one... I came back a few days later and turned on that computer and it worked fine. I have no clue (which is normal)
  5. Hey thanks for asking.... I think everything was correct when I left town last month so by the time I get home it will be all doinked up again. Once more into the breach!
  6. They have been testing VR for almost a year now.... as in players (us guys) that signed up for it. I gave up on VR so not for me, but I imagine you can get in on it. Lots of guys really like the VR so far. The game is most excellent.
  7. OK Black Friday stuff happening all over the place.... got a notice this morning some very good prices in here. Black Friday Deals 2022 (fanatec.com)
  8. Enough Flying Fortress stuff for multiple lifetimes. Watch the whole thing....
  9. I had read as a kid back in the 60's that Garros attached plates or wedges to the prop to deflect any bullet hits on the prop and went on to down several German aircraft using this method. Depending on which story you read, he shot his own prop off when the deflectors failed to do their job, or was hit by ground fire, or engine quit and he made a forced landing and simply failed to destroy the aircraft. When Anthony Fokker saw how crudely the trick had been done and the success that he had with it he got serious about the interuptor gear and made one that worked properly. I tend to believe the obvious one.... he shot his own prop off. All you needed to do was unbalance the prop and the rest will take care of itself. It cracked me up as coming from the home a German Engineer how disgusted Fokker would have been when he saw this hack workmanship. I hated flipping props but it was part of the job. Sometimes you have to move a plane with no one else around and you tied the tail to a tree.... THAT is bloody comforting let me tell you. The motor would catch if you primed it correctly and it was a royal pain in the ass not to mention if you had to go back and forth so many times. A bucket to stand on was mighty handy to reach into the cockpit and make adjustments. The one that scared me the most was one of those Rutan Long EZs and it had such a small prop I thought, oh this will be easy. I had never propped off a pusher before and when the blast of prop wash hit me when the engine caught it scared the crap out of me. I was always starting an engine and the blast went away from you, it was a real shock.
  10. A bit premature perhaps.... because I have not seen it in IL-2 specifically... but I am guessing that the same thing that they did to Cliffs of Dover happened to IL-2..... they monkeyed with the prop spinning disc graphic. I have 10,000+ hours behind a spinning prop and they managed to create something I have NEVER seen. You essentially have two speeds.... fast... blur (guys... it's INVISIBLE) and if you slow down or load up the prop which means lower RPM.... you get this Dragonfly in a spin looking graphic. There is always SOME bone head that is going boldly where no graphic artist has gone before. one word.... WHY ! ? ! ? ! Do something EVEN IF IT IS WRONG. They just want one more graphic, one more effect, one more something.... leave it the heck alone would you? You MIGHT.... maybe... possibly could and seldom did see a glint off your own prop... and it stayed with you about a millionth of a second and you forgot about it because it was so mudane it made a .00001 impression on you. (and that was a polished silver prop.... NEVER a painted black prop.) WOW... I hope that they have second thoughts on this annoying waste of GPU time. As I said.... I HOPE sincerely that it is not as bad in IL-2... .but something changed things around.... not saying WHAT.... but somehow my Anti-aliasing came alive and totally screwed the pooch on my new machine. I think I have everything back working properly.
  11. I read "All The Drowned Sailors" in fact typing that in I got the image of you seeing that on my shelf and asking about it back in BNA.

  13. I would take WINWING over Virpil. I like Virpil and I use it for my Bf-109 and Tomcat/Hornet but it is a deck mounted stick which you said you didn't want. I will say that if you try it, you would like it but for some the space is too precious. WINWING components are just flat out better. More solid, more metal, better feel... gives the impression that they are going to last.
  14. No, I made that, will repeat it for the 2215 B. They are simple projects. I order the cherry from an online supplier and run it through the router table to put the 45° bevel on the front and then cut to size and glue it together. The finish is the hardest part getting that correct. Now I have to try to match them. Yeah... that's going to happen. I still have my Sony Home Theater Surround system from back in the early 90's with the four Bose speakers and it sounds pretty good! Good enough for me. Hey Vonrd.... I don't have the ear of an Audiophile either... I just enjoy the warm glow of the blue LEDs as much as anything. The JBL speakers, yeah... they made a difference but you would hear it I promise.
  15. Hey that's a great amp.... good for you and HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I usually get models for my birthday (if i pick them out and put them on a wish list on my wife's computer) Here's mine Marantz 2215 B and I just bought the Cherry wood to make the cabinet/shroud to go around it. Simply wood project but looking forward to it a lot. Make the poor old amp look nice next to the other Marantz 2275. The little one drives my generic Sony CD player and the local classical radio station while the bigger one runs the Akai GX 635D reel to reel and also a Tandberg TCD 420A that I used for recording my banjo and backup tracks back in the old days. The 2215 has those KLH speakers which are fine for it but the 2725 I spent almost a year having it retuned and setup at the local vintage stereo shop and it has the JBL Control monitors which are absolutely awesome. The whole thing is bottled up because I have to build the new cabinet for the stereo and the bookshelves for all the books. So for now it is just crammed on that little plastic table. Hopefully cooler weather and I can get to work on it.
  16. Just tell the tanker driver to use the AP and don't EVEN hand fly.

  22. OK thought it looked the other way around in your video. Glad they got it right (which is wrong) heh heh
  23. HAH... I guess I have seen that so much I thought it was normal for the game. <snort>
  24. I missed it... what happened?
  25. I really like it... this is the single most accurate component of any sim, driving or flight that I have ever used. The new ICP is using the same components (dobber switch specifically) as well and should be equal to the rest of the stuff so far.
