  1. Has anyone an opinion on refueling using a monitor versus VR?? (in other words, tried it both ways..... I have not tried VR and wondered if it made a difference.
  2. HAH! I do this all the time. I set up for things I can't have... then when I don't find them I am not disappointed..... but then that one day I find what I thought I couldn't find (sadistic isn't it???) I feel that I have to buy it even if I don't really want it. In the old days I would have... and it would sit. I have a wonderful flight sim sitting next to me on an almost brand new computer that I have not even started up in probably 3-4 months. DON'T do that. IF you have the time, and are going to enjoy the #@$ thing... GO MAN GO... life is short... . enjoy it. IF you are going to use it... that is the key, because you know you are going to get a bang out of it. PS... I am waiting for the AH-1 Cobra. See how I do that??? It isn't on any list of being released soon... but when it comes out, I told myself I will buy it. Then it will be plugged into the flight sim sitting next to me that i have not turned on in 3-4 months. DOH !
  3. A recent release from Jerry Crandall. Anything he does I am jumping on as fast as I can.
  4. Performance was good but if you hit a bug on the radiator the engine was gone.
  5. I bet wearing roller blades you could go like #$%
  6. No disrespect intended... I don't understand "Air-Quake F/A-18 crowd" does this mean the F/a-18 hold an advantage or disadvantage in the current atmosphere ?
  7. I am getting old and giving advice.... heh heh... sorry. Just FWIW it seems to me that internet scammers are getting more common and more capable. I just tried to sell furniture on Craig's List in DFW and was instantly contacted by a scammer, they got nothing and I am assisting the people that work to bust this sort of thing. Next, I know some of you guys build models, I got pinched for about $70.00 by an outfit called INTERNETHOBBIES.com and you can google them and see all the other people that have been screwed as well. Bottomline is before you do business with a new place, regardless, take a moment and check them out online. We have been spoiled for a lot of years by doing internet business, ordering etc and dealing with honest people... and I think that is really starting to change.
  8. Thrust solves everything. (as long as you have it)
  9. Enjoyed your group when I was in Black Haze a lot of years ago. Glad to see you guys are still having fun and getting around. Congratulations on the anniversary. BH_Ludwig
  10. Yeah... I could not have pulled out the name of the show... but I go back to a different RIp.... RIPCORD.... I had the parachute man with the red/white plastic parachute and it worked... .... well reasonably well.
  11. March 2nd is Independence day here in Texas, but we like July 4th too. I had a Dr. Pepper, a hot dog and an ice cream cone and jumped in the pool. Yay!
  12. I think that this is one of... if not THE most critical single thing you can do to improve your performance. I know that everyone here knows the "dicta" from "Top Gun" school ... it was posted on the wall above the stairwell and I think it was #4 "Lose sight, lose the fight" and there it is. I encourage you to go watch the videos on YouTube just to see the ease, flexibility and RANGE that the top players have. If you do not have that same ability, then you are starting at a disadvantage. If you look behind you, or up over the top of the canopy and your view kicks around and resets because of the camera and your head alignment not being correct you are most definitely at a disadvantage. Furthermore.... just my opinion, but once I learned how to get my seat all the way up in DCS + IL-2 my kills went WAY up, because I was able to see the lead instead of having to GUESS and pull my nose over the top of the bandit. My ol buddy Hook first brought this to my attention that he was having a #@$% of a time because he was forced to guess and pull and that was no way to be. I just accepted it as being "part of the game" but as usual for me... when I was screwing around one day I accidentally did something that allowed me to be WAY up high in the cockpit and shazaam.... I could see the bandit during the hard pull and oh baby... THAT was easy pickings. I still struggle with it... sometimes I have it right and I do something that loses calibration or "home" setting and other times it works great... and when it does my shooting does the job. I truly feel, the more effort you put into being comfortable with the Track IR the better you will do. I am weird because I don't use the clip on the hat, I use the LED on the headset because I felt I got a more reliable signal/reception that way.
  13. The real life refueling is much easier than what is in DCS. That being said from someone that is not using VR so I can't speak to that. It is a pain in the ass as you say to maintain station because my eyes don't have the periphery and therefore the judgement that you would. It is really pretty quick because the boomer can hook you up fast. Also in DCS you have to be within 1 kt to stay correct and the amount of thrust change to maintain 1 kt is just not within the scope of the game. In the jet it is more forgiving by far.
  14. Are you using a 2-stage trigger? That is my solution.
  15. DCS SUMMER SALE Not be outdone.... DCS announced their "Summer Sale" today. That and along with the F4U getting closer... the funny thing about the Corsair is that it really doesn't have a cockpit deck. When we bought the P-51 we really wanted the F4U but there were fewer of them around. HP if you have seen that on the tail, was Howard Pardue a SWA captain and the history of him and that machine are kinda famous (make that infamous) in South Texas.... but I will spare those stories because I wasn't there. Still, we were talking with him and getting the load on the airplane in general... it is a hydraulic nightmare, I think 14 sequence valves. They told us even the guns cocked hydraulically though I never confirmed that. The crazy thing was that if you were climbing in the seat, and your keys fell out of your pocket (it ain't easy) they fall down basically inside the wing.... not that I know anything about that. So then you spend time with a mech and a coat hanger trying to retrieve them. If you look closely at the picture you can see that your chair sits on rails with nothing in between or outside. No doubt you have read about the visibility issues over that LONG long nose, they are correct, you can't see anything and having a mech or lineman riding on the wing down the end of the runway is really needed. 26 June 2021 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, Our Summer Sale is in full swing and we are thrilled to announce that the Steam sale is also live and will run until the 8th of July. Enjoy up to 50% discount on most of our modules and campaigns. Check them out. Leatherneck Simulations have been working hard on their next aircraft, the DCS: F4U-D Corsair. Their current efforts are focused mostly on finalising the cockpit. Take a look at their development screenshots below. Our partners at Heatblur Simulations have made notable progress to DCS: F-14A/B Tomcat. The latest Open Beta includes improved aircraft arresting physics and new carrier burble effects, bringing this fabulous aircraft one step closer to its final version. We are pleased to announce that DCS: C-101 Aviojet by Aegres has moved to final release state. This module is feature complete and we encourage you to check out what Aegres Media has in store for you next. In Development Screenshots. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team DCS: F4U-D Corsair Development Report The F4U-1 is one of the few aircraft without sidewalls and a floor. Because of this, many of the Corsair’s vital components are exposed. Using manufacture drawings and original aircraft as references, the vast majority of panels, cables, pipes, and switches have been recreated to a high degree of detail. Each area has been checked in VR to ensure that nothing a pilot would see is missing. Updates and texture adjustments to the cockpit model are in final development. Systems development is also largely completed. Hydraulics, electrics, and basic weapon systems are operational, and Leatherneck Simulations will continue to tune them as tests proceed. The AN/ARC-5 Radio and navigation equipment tests were completed earlier this spring. The decision to add the AN/ARC-1 radio set is still pending. Smaller items such as the oxygen equipment and the emergency landing gear extension system are also work in progress.

  17. Aviation history today (Monday 6/7/21 as a UAV refueled an F/a-18 for the first time. Very interesting. MQ-25 Becomes First UAV to Refuel Another Aircraft | Unmanned Systems Technology
  18. I got my copy of IPMS magazine yesterday and it has one of the presidents of the society standing in front of the MiG 23 above and the photographer was standing within about 6" of where the picture was taken. I thought... wow... I just saw this... but there was a guy standing there... and went back to the magazine and sure enough... seems everytime I look on this forum I see something coincidental that way.
  19. With the BMW engine the Fokker D.VII is almost as fast as the D.VIII and has a power to weight ratio which makes it comparable to the SSW D.IV while retaining a lower wing-loading... so it may well be the superior plane when given the latest engine. This was the most interesting line in the piece.... I pretty much expected that the performance of the Siemen Schuckert would be debilitated... just because... the geared engine and 4 blade prop totally blow away the numbers... you can not match this aircraft against the other standard configurations. How many 2 bladed props did you see on WW II aircraft? They started with them and were quickly left off when the torque made it possible to swing a prop with 3+ blades. Anyone that has flown a geared engine knows the benefits of performance are balanced against the mechanical disadvantages (the more moving parts, the more things that can go wrong) but the Siemens guys were on the right track and that machine was a killer. Once again I see the same problems in the flight model of drag and acceleration becoming the downfall of the German aircraft. I sincerely hope that I am incorrect.
  20. Can you use the C-47 to fly car parts out of Laredo? I am already trained. Siemen-Schuckert.... if it is not the best plane in the game, they nerfed it. Climbed like a rocket, dove like a comet, incredibly maneuverable... let the crumpets whining begin now because it should tear the ASS off anything it comes across.
  21. We had that happen at Reese AFB when I was a T-38 instructor there. The tech was working in the cockpit and the seat was armed and it went off and put him through the ceiling of the hangar. It really freaked out a lot of young guys.
  22. You can deploy the parachute at lower altitudes but the results are not as good.
  23. TCAS and TCAS 2 are inhibited below 1000 AGL and typically in parallel runway ops which this was. Otherwise you would have that thing squawking the whole time you were in the pattern. From what I saw initially the Cirrus was cleared to land on the right and the Sa-226 on the left and the Cirrus lost SA and blew through the centerline of 18R striking the Sa-226 on the right side causing the plane to lurch to the right giving the pilot the indication that the right engine had failed. Once it stabilized in a few seconds he may have realized what was going on, but if the drag from the hole was significant enough he may have still felt that it was caused by asymmetrical thrust. I bet when he finally turned around and saw daylight that was a difficult thing to understand. If you look at the pic... notice the chunk taken out of the vertical stab... 1/1000th of a second later and the left wing hit the vertical stab enough to remove it. NO more happy ending.
  24. When DCS turns out the AH-1 they will probably have a better one of these... but these are really nice for moment
