JG I "Richthofen" - FIF 2017 Session A2 (28 January 2017)
-Hawkeye- replied to Klaiber's topic in Squadron News
My personal thanks added to the fellows above, and all the pilots who are able to be regulars flying in FiF. You support our mission, and therefore the entire RoF community. We rely on you to help make our simulation and event viable. S! -
JG I "Richthofen" - FIF 2017 Session A1 (21 January 2017)

Very well done, recipients, and all! S! -
From what I've read, there may be some discrepancy between when the order was received, and when it was effective. A given source, even an autobiography, might not differentiate between the two.

Seems to be Thursday, 22 March 1917: Frontflieger März 1917 "Beförderung zum Oberleutnant 22. März, Donnerstag" Rittmeister (Hauptmann) was on Saturday, April 7.

Couldn't you have waited 3 weeks to fix this ?

Concerning the second video: I was the low guy. I pulled my own wings off in a high G split S when reversing to begin the engagement, after taking a bullet. Not exactly getting shot down, but it reinforces the lessons of these videos. One kills oneself probably far more often than the enemy does. In my excitement after being chased by a faster plane toward my own lines, and with nose still down, I neglected to consider the aspect of speed that I had accrued and maneuvered far too violently, handing my enemy an easy victory and robbing myself of one that would have been easily attained if he had been foolish enough to hang around; and I also facilitated the demise of one other in my flight by failing to offer a third threat for the enemy to keep track of, allowing them to concentrate on who was left. It could easily have turned into all three lost, but for Barton's outstanding survivability.

Looking forward to the rest of this series! Thanks!

Thank-you....a pleasure to watch as always! Staying alive in a solo Camel is a very hard thing to do. Great work!
-
LoL We did have fun, didn't we?! I was really looking forward to seeing this one to see that furball that I missed out on, where you guys all did so well. Great job all, and thanks for another great video, Barton !! You really got me with that time passing music, ha! I'm a terrible navigator, it all looks the same to me a lot of the time! (and thanks for not cutting me out....that had to be hard, LoL!)

JG I "Richthofen" - FIFXXV Session 8 (10 December 2016)
-Hawkeye- replied to Klaiber's topic in Squadron News
Very well deserved, gentlemen! Glad to see this for you! -
Lol, the guy behind the guns in the first screen is somewhat better looking than most Blue team pilots, I find J/K, folks; S!!
-
You guys did a great job in defense of our HQ target. Wish we'd been able to get extra help to you earlier! Beautiful pictures, as always! S! Baron!
-
Fun, beyond all repair. Gonna miss it during our time off!! Well done, Blue team! You did all the right things. Keep up the good work!! S!

What a great group! S! Guys! -
Great story and really high quality video, too. Thanks again!

Beautiful! Thanks!!

You mean, you got better than you already were??!!

A man my Grandfather worked with kept a Stearman at my Grandfather's grass strip in Acme, MI. I never got a ride in it. I always thought it was the coolest plane ever. Is the prop pitch automatic in those things? Green with envy here 😀

JG I "Richthofen" - FIFXXV Session 6 (19 November 2016)

Congrats, gents! S! -
I see I've created some history here Let everybody know I coined this phrase A respectful S! to the gentleman who had made himself such a nuisance to our team!

My oldest son, home for the holiday, heard me playing it and immediately went to download it It's a cool song, and knowing the lyrics and their history is even better. I had known the story of those women pilots, but if I had heard this song without the explanation I doubt I would have connected the two. Thanks!

The Hunt for the Red Eagle Continues!
-Hawkeye- replied to Barton's topic in JG1 Videos & Screen Caps
I didn't mean for that to sound arrogant, I meant figuratively, not literally....I sort of forgot this is a public thread too.... ....no offense was meant to the other side. Your best friends are always the guys you're flying with at the time, and that even includes loyalty, I find. Everybody on both teams is doing an exceptional job, and this is the result we have right now, and I would never complain about our situation considering how often and how long the Blue team suffered a disadvantage of numbers. I think it's great that the score is this close after all these weeks; and I gotta say I'm having a helluva lotta fun, and I hope everybody else is too. S! Everybody! -
The Hunt for the Red Eagle Continues!
-Hawkeye- replied to Barton's topic in JG1 Videos & Screen Caps
Maybe so, but in the context of FiF, it was immediately important to stop that DFW from destroying the barge target. The sacrifice necessary to do that becomes apparent very quickly in the video. I don't think either of you are to blame when it comes to not seeing the Albs that were high above, hidden in your wing; it's not as if you didn't take a careful look around (I saw you do that). As we all can see, the DFW was only able to destroy his target in the last few seconds of your sortie, after he had been hit hard by Maus; it's entirely possible he might have been damaged to the point of not being able to continue his mission successfully. I don't advocate suicide, but that doesn't qualify as suicide or even poor judgment. It's just the fighter spirit that keeps our squad on top. S! Maus and Barton! -
I love CH, but only because I use it no further than RoF. Obviously it's more cheaply made than a Warthog, and uses potentiometers too, which are obsolete considering everybody else uses Hall Effect sensors now. I've always found the CH Control Manager to do everything and beyond what I want to do in RoF. It's a shame if it doesn't interface well with more modern games, but it's bound to happen sometime. I remember when my beloved Sidewinder 2's software was useless for RB3D. Unfortunately the original CH company is long gone, and the name bought by some Chinese company that does absolutely nothing to upgrade the products, and has no interest in furthering them. Still I'm thankful that I can still buy a replacement for something I bought a decade ago, if needed. If I had to switch from what I have I'd go with the TM Warthog, because the physical configuration is (almost) exactly the same as the CH Products version. The only reason I've held off is because I've heard that the physical movement of the Warthog is much stiffer or heavy than the CH Products, and also, since I've repaired and soldered all connections inside my stick, I've had zero problems (not to say I won't ever). I'm just holding off until it's a problem for me. Hope you guys solve whatever problems you're having. S!
