I save as Format: "BC7 RGBA 8bpp explicit alpha"

I passed on these instructions to my brother. He is using PS on Mac OSX, and he says he doesn't have those option when saving. however he has told me the Alpha layer is now there, and mipmap is on now. Stand by for ver. 2

I know this is for virtual skins, but I thought I'd add my personal aircraft (yes, the fuselage is too short, I'll fix it on the next plane).

  • I actually made this one myself  😊  Request this be added to our JG1 official skin pack.     Luftritter Pfalz D.IIIa EDIT: The original file has been replaced with an improved version.  Crosses c

This plug-in is only available for PS using Win 10/11 and Linux. He originally had to find a plugin for MacOSX to be able to create a DDS format. He found one but I’m unsure if it’s operates exactly like yours. He was able to add the Alpha layer and changed the Red colour to the exact colour you had specified. He also added mipmaps as well. Changes are in ver. 2 above. He told me the colour should be good, but to ask you if the saturation was ok. Thanks again.

what do you think?

Hans has my blessing (if that's worth anything) for this skin. Just a tactical note: clouds are seldom red, but hey, I fear that a lot of the skins don't have their bellies in RLM 76 equivalents.

I agree, my plan was this D.III Late, and everything later will be pretty flashy with the spirt of it being post JG1 amalgamation. My D.III early and prior I intend to make more historical, with proper camos and such, Being from Ottawa, our football team here is the Red Blacks, and our hockey team is the Ottawa Senators who are also Red and Black. This is the inspiration. My names initials are EF hence the EF in the insignia, and the lightning bolts are to represent my NCIOP/SAC naval background. As seen in my patches here.

After having a good talk with @Moxy and going through other members skins such as @Vonrd and @Kliegmann. I was unaware of the possibilities that were available for customization. Such as added oil and grease stains from mechanics, paint chips on the cowling, and mud stains flung up from the wheels. I have decided to do some more alterations. I have also decided to go with RLM 76 on the undersides of the wings as @Heinrich had mentioned. So if it’s ok, stand by for the finalized skin. I promise this time!

RLM is a WW2 colour coding used by the Luftwaffe. On WW1 aircraft, it isn't mandatory, but you have an idea/start point for a colour. Keep in mind also that, next to Faith, a lot of wars are fought over the Hex-codes.
A lot of paint was created on the fields by the maintenance crews, in an attempt to get close to a certain colour just with the paints available, organised or plainly stolen. Remember the pink submarine.

Regarding weathering, you can use the alpha layer to make any part of the aircraft shine or dull.
Or even make it invisible completely. If you look at the wheels of my Halberstadt CL2 160 hp, I used the total black to create spoke wheels. Don't ask how many hours went into that.

So you can go crazy and have a completely worn-out aircraft or one fresh from the factory.

Copy, yeah the plan was to just go with the factory light blue on the undersides that comes with the default template. After seeing the kind of things you can do. It will help make the mud stains pop way more than the black or red ever would have. I want my bird looking dirty so stand by for the changes incoming!

The current policy is to have only one livery per pilot per aircraft module. When there are two modules in game such as DVII and DVIIF you can have one each.

This was implemented in order to keep the Paint Pack size down.

Because of the greatly reduced number of active pilots, maybe we should talk about amending this but that would need a JG1 Command decision.

Personally, I like the idea of showing a progression of paint schemes for a particular pilot. Didn't MFR have several variations for his Alb DII (or DIII)?

From the Dicta PaintPolicy:

Basic Standards

2.  All JG Nr. I pilots, who are full and active members of the squadron, are entitled to have one personal paint scheme added to a paint pack for every German aircraft flown by the Unit.

Reading this would imply that a pilot can have several skins per aircraft from any other 'air force'. Removing the German seems the simplest solution.

Understood! I’ll make just one for each unless the policy is changed and I’m told otherwise. Thanks for the heads up.
