Hindsight Combat Evaluations in ROF
Barton replied to J5_Hotlead's topic in JG1 Videos & Screen Caps
The freezes only happen when you record passively. Actively recording I've never had it freeze on me. This is a great video! I'm glad and thankful for you taking the time to produce it and share with everyone. One recommendation I have is a bit more in depth debriefing where you point out exactly where you made your mistakes, why they were mistakes, and what you should have done instead. For instance: Granted I'm watching this on my cell phone, but it looked as though you could have gotten a little closer before opening fire. There's no need to spoil your element of surprise by firing too early. Get in close and make them count. Also, I like to dive in on unsuspecting prey as it allows you to close much faster and gives you an better angle to hit vital systems or the pilot. However you didn't start with a lot of altitude to begin with so this wasn't much of an option, but you also could have dove slightly below his tail into his blind spot. This would have greatly increased your close rate and possibly allowed you to stay undetected until you were in prime position. This would have slowed you down during your attack, allowing more time to fire as your rate of overshoot would be lessened. The trade off here is that you would have less kinetic energy for the ensuing fight. Still, the bounce was good. The first big mistake was obviously split essing into the alb as he went under you (twice). You should have stayed high and tried to maintain your position directly above him through a high yo-yo. You got lucky that the Alb pilot stayed defensive and kept blowing his energy trying to evade attacks you weren't going to get in. If he had realized your mistake and gone offensive by using his superior turn rate he could have forced you to put your nose down and disengage. Which brings us to the last and most egregious error. When you lost sight of your enemy you put your nose up to climb. This blew all of your airspeed in trade for very little altitude. You should have kept your nose down to extend away and climbed only when you knew you were safe. Even when you saw the Alb behind you you still kept your nose up and stayed a slow and easy target. The second you saw him behind you you should have hit the deck and ran like hell. Luckily you still managed to do this (better late than never) and survive. Even if you don't produce videos it is still a good thing to record fights and go back to review them. I've often found myself disappointed for not seeing and taking advantage of openings or failing in ways I thought I knew better. It's an integral part of getting better and I'm glad that your sharing with everyone. Looking forward to more! S! -
A Tom Clancy MMORPG? Interesting

A little weathered would be cool. The tail colors are great. Kinda want the to be flamboyant. I'll give you some freedom to experiment. Other than the tail and staff I don't know what I want and I'm not sure what's possible.
-
Now that I've been able to look at it on a proper screen with my laptop I do rather like the staff on the right side! Looks great! Now I just have to practice in the Dr.1 so It doesn't look like an actual clown is flying it.
-
The tail looks great. I just can't see well enough what's on the side and I'm sure that's because I'm looking at it on my phone.

I was thinking of a tricolor tailplane where one horizontal stab was yellow and the other red with a black vert stabilizer. Maybe a Jester's staff under the cockpit on the left side with "Hofnarr" under or over it. Was hoping to alter the J4 skin for the Albs but I'm not sure how it would look with the mustard color of the fuselage. May just go with the staff and lettering on most and put the tail paint on things like the D.VIIF. Also thought of having "Lass uns tanzen" on the elevators a la Udet.

I'll feed his addiction! Help me skin some! Need a "Jester" theme!

They heard Rotermann's stories about the nurses. -
I always thought it was fairly accurate but I wish you could hide under the windscreen to avoid it getting on your goggles. And it never really appears on the windscreen itself either.

God, he must be a pro. How did he keep it out of a spin all that time?

First thought was "he didn't buy the guage pack?"

Congrats and good work! -
I'll never be able to watch any movie that has a flight stick in it without trying to figure out which one it is. Proud to see my favorite superhero using my favorite flight controller!

Congrats, guys. May many more be in your future! -
The CH seems like it would be the best option for you. Honestly, the warthog is way too much for what I use it for. I just like all the buttons on the stick and the dual throttles but 85% of the switches are completely unused, especially in RoF. I use some in CloD, but not many, and I hardly fly DCS enough to warrant it. If you fly the A-10 in DCS a lot it's cool to have, but if not I think other sticks will do the job just fine without requiring so much explaining wallet drainage.
-
I can't speak for the x55 or CH setup but my warthog has been going strong since 2011. Two of my stick buttons on the stick itself have sticking issues but those developed over months of using them for push to talk. The warthog is heavy and well built and IMO worth every penny. I am single though so I can't speak to how one could convince the misses that this is a necessary purchase. I'm sure an X55 or CH is going to be just fine. I just can't offer any advice or opinions between the two

I feel like splitting up Wednesday and Saturday scores will kill Wednesdays anyhow. Trying to find a group to move to blue to even mid week turnout without creating a greater imbalance on Saturday is impossible and would likely only result in many of the transferred pilots not showing up on Wednesdays anyhow. Just kill Wednesdays. Maybe shift Saturdays a bit so it allows more people to fly if we can, but even now the server has been damn near full. But do we kill Wednesdays now or wait until XXIV?

But then it's no longer a "Dead is dead" tournament.
