Well, after postponing the decision for a long time I too have decided to transfer to Jgr2/J27b for the WWI focus. Not thinking of this as a goodbye as I would be happy to continue flying with JG1 during Tue practices, but understand if that would no longer be appropriate.

Maushake reacted to Hans von Freden in A Thank Youo7 Ladies and Gents,
I wanted to reach out and let you all know that I’ll be transferring out of JG1. This is really hard for me, as being part of this squadron has been a genuinely great experience, and I don’t have a single bad word or grudge toward anyone here. Truth be told, I’ve been thinking about this move for some time.
WWI simming, and particularly fighter warfare has always been my real passion, and I’ve reached the point where I want to fly, and concentrate my efforts with a group that’s dedicated solely to this era. That being said, @Klaiber has approved, and authorized a transfer to JGr2. I’ve always had a love for German aircraft, so it feels right being on the next field over, opposed to heading across the mud to the other side of the lines. I’ll still be flying around the same skies, but just under a different tag from now on.
I’m truly grateful for everything JG1 has provided me. Thank you for welcoming me in, and for everything you taught me, the laughs, and all the lessons learned along the way. You turned a brand new, green noob into a half competent pilot in a very short period. You’ve helped shape me into a better pilot and all around simmer, and JG1 will always have a special place in my heart.
In the event of an emergency, JG1 will always be the first emergency airfield I’ll consider turning to. It will always be my second home. It’s been an absolute pleasure flying with you all. I’ll still see you in the skies.

Regards,
von Freden

Maushake reacted to Britchot in RL Aviation PostsTook a little trip with my son to Canada’s Air and Space Museum. Really fine collection with some extremely rare WWI and II models.
Biggest news to me was the development of the G-suit occurred in 1941 and was used by the RAF in North Africa in 1942.

Maushake reacted to Flyboy in Dayton Air Show Jun 21, 2025Today we got a tour of the Wilmington control tower. Pictured is (Dino) Dan (our ABX instructor and tour guide today), (JG1_Patriot) Rick, (Hawg) Manny, JG1_Lee, (JG1_Flyboy) Mike, Fox3_Luck) Joe and (JG1_Vonrd) Rick. Jennifer (Joe's wife) is pictured in the second pic.
We then went to get some authentic Cincinnati chili at Skyline followed by a sim tour. Got to see the old DC-8 sim and a lot of flight time in the B-767 (hopefully some of the others here can post more pics). Got a brief maintenance hangar walkthrough then went to my house for hamburgers, talk and of course some more flight sim on my rig.

Maushake reacted to Hans von Freden in JG1 RecruitmentI ended up running into @Kliegmann in a voice channel. He was super helpful, and even took time out of his training to explain the rank structure here. He showed me the ropes, and helped me with a bunch of technical questions ans well ans explained the event. He defiantly deserves a Bravo Zulu. He was super helpful. Got a chance to meet @Moxy and @Vonrd and a few of the other guys as well. I had a really fun time. The amount of effort put into making this event so detailed, and dynamic is incredible. I’m really looking forward to Saturday. I’ve committed to practice with them tomorrow night as well. Just wanted to say thanks again for all the help guys! o7

Maushake reacted to Vonrd in Vonrd's Master of Fine Arts thesis show from 1985Everything except the black and white photos are glass. I minored in photography.
As far back as I remember I was an aviation nut building models both plastic / static and flying. First free flight / control line then RC. My first RC was rudder only with rubber band powered escapement... super Old School. I was also always drawing / painting airplane art and eventually moved to surf art and landscapes. By college undergraduate I had focused on art and discovered glassblowing. I focused on glass art through graduate school and right after grad school got a job as Studio Manager at the Rhode Island School of Design, one of the premier art institutions in the USA. I was finally making a fair amount of money, enough to fulfill my dream of flying. Got my PPL and by that point began to get disillusioned with Academia and Art in general. It seemed to me that to be successful, you had to kowtow to rich patrons and gallery owners. I got the idea that if I became an aircraft mechanic I could buy an aircraft and save lots of money by doing all my own maintenance. I went cross country to attend A&P school in Oakland and was also working at California College of Arts and Crafts as Studio Manager. Well, A&P school cost a lot and when I graduated there was very little demand for mechanics. So I continued the Studio Manager gig while working part time doing dope and fabric restorations. Pay was fair but not enough to buy a plane. After settling in the Bay Area working in GA there was never enough spare bucks so I never did buy a plane. Now that I'm retired, I dabbling again in glass and still hoping to find a "barn find" fixer upper plane.

Maushake reacted to Vonrd in Vonrd's Master of Fine Arts thesis show from 1985While websurfing I decided to take a look at the Ohio State University archives and came across my MFA Thesis from 1985. Unfortunately it was a pretty poor quality PDF especially because I didn't use archival materials when assembling it. Pretty sure that I used spray adhesive to mount the photos because there was lots of adhesive bleed which discolored the paper. I've spent the last week or so Photoshopping the images to somewhat bring them back to how I remember them to have been. The text is somewhat embarrassing as to it's quality and you can probably tell from the images subject matter that I wasn't in the best emotional shape at the time. But I do have really good memories from that time and miss all of the friends that I had. Having to re-build almost all of the studio equipment made me somewhat resentful at the time but it lead to my future careers as Studio Manager at both RISD and CCAC. I'm attaching the photos here. To see the thesis and all of the photos go to Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/ss69zyeg5roda02wuwsop/ADLV7_aFnFbbt7STkSm0prY?rlkey=hxsz88iw8nxc583xjpsxj4sye&st=vn7m4mhp&dl=0

Maushake reacted to Gabi in My latest projectI'm still doing a little cleanup on this but I'm pretty proud of it. I made this totally from scratch, and it works... as in it spins in the wind.

Maushake reacted to Gabi in My latest projectThis is a 1/6 scale gas-powered RC flying model of the Fokker DRI. I began work on this model over 20 years ago and recently realized I really need to finish it. So I have been working pretty steadily on it for the last few weeks. The primary structure and control system work is pretty much finished and I am working on detailing the cockpit interior prior to covering the airframe with fabric. The model has a 48" wingspan.
-
Maushake reacted to Gabi in Display modelHere are a few photos of a 16" wingspan non-flying display model I'm finishing up. I painted the entire thing by hand with a brush... including the lozenge pattern fabric and all the markings. I'm still tweaking the weathering a bit and have a little cleanup to do but it's basically finished.

Maushake reacted to Klaiber in FIF 2024 - Session A4 (Saturday, 9 November 2024)Thank you all for flying FIF 2024! We hope everyone had a great time, and we look forward to future Flanders In Flames events in the New Year!
We greatly appreciate your continued support! Please give us your thoughts and impressions within the 🐛bug-reports or 👀discussions sections on the FIF Discord. We would love to hear your feedback. As mentioned, FIF is a growing and changing event, so your input is vital to better cater to the community’s wants and needs.
Some special thanks.
Firstly, I’d like to thank @Kliegmann for creating FIF 2024 and for his mission building talents! Additionally, a thank you to @Moxy and @Vonrd for coordinating things behind the scenes, taking huge amounts of pressure off of me. And a thank you to our "mission builder emeritus," @Butzzell for inspiring us to continue.
Thank you to the BLUE and RED Team Commanders! @Flyboy, @J37 Daedallus, @No.10 RNAS, @J18_MartinKvR, @Ace_Ivo, and the people I don't know about who did the heavy lifting week to week. You made mission plans, handed out orders, and made things fun for everyone. And your efforts have not gone unnoticed.
Thank you to @-IRFC-Tunes, Eccho, and the entire Ad Astra team. Without their support, server, and stats page, this event would not have been able to happen.
Furthermore, a thank you to @JGr2-J5_Baeumer for his continued support and encouragement. Flugpark is an example of what happens when the community comes together, and we're inspired by that example.
If I have forgotten anyone, the negligence is mine alone. We greatly appreciate everyone's ongoing efforts within the FC community!
The complete results can be found here: https://forum.jg1.org/forum/74-fif-session-results/
Expect a Newspaper report in the next few days from Kliegmann.
New campaign shields, replacing the traditional ribbons, have been created to celebrate the event’s conclusion. We hope you will wear them virtually and with pride, as you’ve earned it!
Cheers! Santé! Prost!
