Somnus got a reaction from Klaiber in [FIX] CH Products Control Manager after Windows 10 Creator UpdateHey guys, just to add to this drama, I've recently discovered that if the buttons grey out, if you hit the windows key and type STORE and open the Microsoft store that way, they come back... What a wild ride.

Somnus reacted to Snaggle in Thursday night Wargrounds with US103rdFC FC and did I say more FC on Thursday's of course. Made me even show up... 😁

Somnus reacted to Vonrd in VR TacticsThe real problem is that in RL you can swivel you eyeballs to get an additional 10 degrees or so which will allow you to see further behind with your head at the max swivel limit. Try it. I can see directly behind me with my orbs at max swivel. The only way this will work in VR is with an appx 180 deg field of view.
When I don't care that much about scoring (most of the time on open servers) I fly VR. If I'm flying (for now "simulated") DID, it will be TIR until the 3rd gen VR (if it allows more peripheral).
The original purpose for this post still stands... I believe we can make it better with tactics and ,as Barton said, these tactics can apply to non VR flying.

Somnus reacted to Razwald in VR TacticsI like to think that everyone who has or has tried VR will admit that checking your six with Track IR isn't realistic.
-
Somnus reacted to Barton in VR TacticsNot being so able to check six is probably a lot more realistic especially for 109s. I always thought I could see a lot more with TrackIR than I should be able to.
-
Somnus reacted to Razwald in VR TacticsI think I'm the only Vive user so I really can't help on settings.
It had never occured to me to turn icons on to see how far out I can spot a target. I will do that by Sunday night.
Checking six I take my hand off the throttle and grab the chair between my legs. It gives me some extra stability to turn around. With that said I do that during a dog fight when I know someone is there. I have flown very little VR online and I can see myself not going to that extent to check my six in hopes that my wingman\flight leader is checking my six. VR or not, I have always been a fan of line abreast for this reason.
-
Somnus reacted to Vonrd in VR TacticsI'm going to try it in single player with icons on so I can read the distance to see if 600 meters is actually enough to see far enough back to clear the other's 6. I agree that 1K may be a bit much but visibility IMHO Trumps being able to immediately support... if you don't see the bandit it's all moot.
(I was hesitant in jumping in on the VR but it IS SOOO immersive... I'm sure you will love it)

Somnus got a reaction from Snaggle in Flying Circus and Tank Crew@AngryGoat
Don't worry, I haven't ordered it yet either, but I came here to see what people where saying. It's either FC for $60 with the discounts, or Kuban for $37. What do you all recommend right now?
EDIT: Okay, I talked myself into FC first...

Somnus reacted to Kliegmann in Flying Circus and Tank CrewI found the article that Baron posted up about the FM of the DR1 to be very enlightening. The 3 of us actually had a discussion last night about the forward stick pressure, and to discover that the WWI pilots DID actually have to deal with that, proving that its NOT a flaw with the in-game FM is awesome. I decided to leave the curves alone, and proudly earn my carpel tunnel syndrome.

Somnus reacted to Lee in Flying Circus and Tank CrewThe advantage of my spaceship setup in VR is two joysticks and no foot pedals. Chafe neck? Not with a swivel chair!

Somnus reacted to Lee in Please permit me to gush for a moment...In regards to setting the monitor in game to full screen to mirror the Rift display and keep the mouse focus in the game's window. I've found there is very little performance hit in setting the monitor to its native resolution, in my case 3440x1440. The game has already done the hard work to rendered the image and the graphics card is just putting pixels on the screen. Multiple monitors are common with today's high end cards and not an issue at all. Advantage is in screen shots. Before they were rendered in the game's default setting of 1280 768. Now they are rendered at 3440x1440. In order for the shot to be correctly framed, I do peek out from under the Rift to make sure all is properly composed when taking the shot.

Somnus reacted to Etzel in Update on FCFrom my perspective this never ending FM discussions lead to nowhere... I doubt that anyone today is able to tell if the behaviour of a plane in a computer game fits 100% to the behviour of this plane in air more than 100 years ago.... thinking of the highly manual process in complete production process I would even doubt, that the behaviour of each single plane out of the same series was 100% the same like its twins....
And Vonrd brought it to the point before: On this topic you can never statisfy everyones expectations, so I fully understand when developes surrender in between of those fights as I whatched them in the RoF forum.
Just my 2 cents regarding the reaction curves: In many years of RoF experience I flew every available plane in RoF (well, many of them not very successfull, but nevertheless...) and I _never_ did change any response-curve for any plane at all, I simply tried to get used to every behavoiur.... and yes, for the DrI that means continiously pushing down the stick....
Well, I have to admit that I don't use Force Feedback Joystick, maybe my approach on the response curves would be different then....
But finally back to the great news as: As RoF is beside events like FiF or BA and BS de facto dead I am absolutly excited about the foreseeable come back of crowded WW1 skies…
I also enjoy the action in the different BoX planes meanwhile, but in the end I cannot deny that the slow and easy flyable WW1 birds are much more made for a lazy and convient guy like I am *g*
-
Somnus reacted to Snaggle in Update on FCIMO: any one that would know it would be Baron! So if all holds true and I can fly in VR, it would be really difficult to not to make the jump to FC.
All this talk gets me kind of excited to WW1 again, the main reason for my recent absence.
S!

Somnus reacted to Britchot in Update on FCRoF in VR as beautiful as IL-2: BoX, has me sold, it is my primary reason for fully backing FC.
I do hope, based on interest, they will fix the flight model issues that stand out in RoF with the income of sales. This reduces R&D on a whole new FM and instead, they can use the profits to fund new aircraft as well as go back to the ones that are wrong.
-
Somnus reacted to Baron in Update on FCRelax guys. I testing Dr.1 and Spad XIII from FC just now, and this is not old RoF. This is different game, not only in graphic. Very simply - i was really stunned when i had first flight in new planes. I cant say more now but im sure that WW1 fans will be happy with final product.

Somnus got a reaction from Lee in Please permit me to gush for a moment...So I recently built a new computer. GTX 1070 Ti, the newest coffee lake Intel i5, 16gb of memory... and I got an oculus rift. I’ve been busy playing a bunch of rift games and haven’t really flown much, but tonight I’ve been playing Elite in VR and I do t think I can go back to TrackIR with it! The VR graphics aren’t spectacular, but I’ve been bounty hunting in resource extraction site, and moving my whole body to track targets is just freaking amazing!
I don’t know how well some serious DCS will work with it, but I’m looking forward to playing some IL2!

Somnus reacted to Karl Spackler in Tacview Fix for DCS World 1.5.8 and 2.2.0Fix for DCS World 1.5.8 and 2.2.0
DCS World 1.5.8 and 2.2.0 have changed the way some LUA addons are working. This is why telemetry export does not work well with these versions. Here is how to fix the issue while waiting for the fix in Tacview 1.7.0:
Go in the \Saved Games\DCS.*\Scripts\ folder which correspond to your edition of DCS World Create a subfolder \Saved Games\DCS.*\Scripts\Hooks\ Move \Saved Games\DCS.*\Scripts\TacviewGameGUI.lua in \Saved Games\DCS.*\Scripts\Hooks\
This fix will be integrated in Tacview 1.7.0
About Tacview options menu in DCS
ED team is investigating the issue of Tacview special menu which is not displayed in DCS World.
Meanwhile, you can manually open the file \Saved Games\DCS.*\Config\options.lua and edit the Tacview section which should look like the following. If you do not see this section, you may have to copy paste it manually into the options.lua file.
Code: [select] ["Tacview"] = {
["bookmarkShortcut"] = 0,
["dataRecordingEnabled"] = true,
["debugModeEnabled"] = true,
["playbackDelay"] = 0,
["profilingPeriod"] = 60,
