S! All, Up to now all of our victory awards within JG I "Richthofen" have been based on decorations that Rittm. Manfred von Richthofen had been awarded during his lifetime. If he didn't achieve the distinction, we couldn't either. However, with Baron's amazing 35th victory, we have now officially exhausted the Prussian decorations that Manfred von Richthofen had won for combat distinctions. Britchot and I spoke, and we both quickly realized that we still very much want to have a top victory award within WW1 simming that was "just out of reach". Since that was no longer the Red Eagle, a new decoration was needed. As a result, I am proud to announce the creation of a new victory decoration for JG I "Richthofen" - the Order Pour le Mérite with Oak Leaves. Some history: In early 1918, Rittm. Manfred von Richthofen was being considered for the Order Pour le Mérite with Oak Leaves, but was considered ineligible under a strict reading of the regulations. Oak Leaves to the Blue Max were normally only given to high-ranking officers, usually distinguished field commanders or members of the general staff. Since Manfred von Richthofen didn't qualify, he was given the slightly less prestigious honor of the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd Class with Crown and Swords. This was awarded to him soon after he shot down his 70th aerial victory. The Red Eagle would be the highest victory decoration he would achieve. With the addition of the Order Pour le Mérite with Oak Leaves to our virtual squadron, you all now have the chance to win something that Manfred von Richthofen didn't, but might have, had he lived. While we won't be asking you to get over 80 kills to achieve it, the victory total necessary is still very high. In order to achieve the Order Pour le Mérite with Oak Leaves, you'll need 50 aerial victories, or 50 ground victories, within one streak. Below is the official award language, as well as an image. Good luck all! Order Pour le Mérite with Oak Leaves (Blauer Max mit Eichenlaub): The Order Pour le Mérite with Oak Leaves (Blauer Max mit Eichenlaub) is a second, higher awarding of the Blue Max. Normally reserved for high-ranking officers, it can be awarded to top flying aces who are deemed eligible. It is given for acts of bravery above and beyond the call of duty. Awarded for 50 aerial victories, or 50 ground victories, within one streak.

The FIF 2018 "Spring Campaign" has officially come to an end! After 8-weeks of bloody fighting, both the Blue and Red teams have managed to win one Phase of play within the 2018 Spring Campaign. As a result, the Spring Campaign for Flanders In Flames has now ended in stalemate! Stalemate may not seem exciting, but from a tournament perspective it really is. Not only does this tie show just how evenly matched both sides were, but it is a testament to the dedication and determination of both the Blues and the Reds. Week after week, you all have brought your best to the field of battle. And for me, it was thrilling to watch the scores and stats, knowing that 7 days later, everyone was going to try and outdo themselves. During our Summer hiatus, I'm going to miss this. I'm very proud to be apart of this tournament, and am happy that it has helped bring the Rise of Flight community together. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again in the Fall, after Jasta 5's Black September. Let us lift our glasses filled with our favorite libations and toast our virtual opponents. Prost! Salut! To celebrate the conclusion of the Spring Campaign, here is the FIF campaign ribbon. Blue for the Blue Team. Red for the Red Team. And light blue to signify the temporary ending of virtual hostilities. Large version: Small version: And as always, thank you to every pilot who flew! Without your continued support, this tournament would not be able to function! The scores for Session B4 are shown below. . . . Hey Wheels, Great to see you!

Make sure to use the Oculus Debug Tool before you start Oculus up. Change your Pixel Per Display Pixel Overide to 2.0 for Elite. This should help make the game look crisper. You'll need to do this manually each time. Additionally, when you start up Elite, make sure to go into the in-game Display, and change your Resolution back to your full screen. Here's the reason: when using the Rift, the game defaults you to the minimum monitor resolution, allowing you to see your desktop on either side. If you nudge your mouse by accident, you can accidentally click off the game and onto your desktop! And then all of your in-game controls stop working! I've had this happen to me in PVP combat, before I realized what happened. Not fun. However, if the screen is full resolution (i.e. full monitor), there is no way for you to click off the game anymore.

I agree. I know that he's a pilot and a history buff. But it's almost like a "why is your chocolate in my peanut butter"-type moment. Looks like a great series of videos.

[FIX] CH Products Control Manager after Windows 10 Creator Update
Klaiber replied to Somnus's topic in Technical Support
Finally, a seventh possible fix. It's a simple one, but works for me. When you turn your computer on from a cold start or even a reboot, let it sit for a minute or two. In a cold start or reboot, a bunch of background programs are coming online and starting up. Your computer is finding it's peripherals and checking for changes. Starting up the unsupported CH Control Manger during this process could cause a conflict, resulting in the manager graying out and no longer working. Generally, I let the computer sit until I hear an auditory beep from Windows, indicating that the computer has found my HOTAS and that things are stabilized. This might be different for everyone's computer. Perhaps only mine does this. But it's something to note. Every time I've rushed to use the CH Control Manager after a cold start or reboot, it doesn't work. -
[FIX] CH Products Control Manager after Windows 10 Creator Update
Klaiber replied to Somnus's topic in Technical Support
Hi Guys, I have another step people can try: This is in addition to the four others I posted above: http://forum.jg1.org/topic/5375-fix-ch-products-control-manager-after-windows-10-creator-update/?do=findComment&comment=34105 http://forum.jg1.org/topic/5375-fix-ch-products-control-manager-after-windows-10-creator-update/?do=findComment&comment=34106 Make the CH Control Manager always run in administrator mode. Right click on the CH Control Manager. Select Properties Click Advanced within the Shortcut tab. Tick the run as administrator box and click okay. Click okay on the main properties window and click Continue. Reboot the computer. The CH Control Manager should now have a shield next to it. It will now prompt you regarding administrator mode every time you click it. -
Good points.

Really amazing work, Geezer. I love the fold-out photograph, and the newspaper title clippings. It really makes it feel like a real journal. Looking forward to the next chapter!

Star Wars' Ships Have Terrible Aerodynamic Designs
Klaiber replied to Klaiber's topic in Public Discussion
I've seen this! I actually think they make some very good points. Everything thing he says here is a completely believable in-universe answer to the nature of space combat in Star Wars. So definite thumbs up. However, I still hate The Last Jedi. I could write a diatribe on the reasons, but they're all story related, and stem from the movie's misuse of Luke, Chewie, R2 and Rey. I also think that the First Order is bumbling and incompetent. And that because they are, they really aren't a believable threat like the Empire was. Why is Hux still in command?! The only competent officer they seemed to have was Captain Moden Canady, who commanded the Fulminatrix. And they made sure to kill him off. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Fulminatrix -
