Ludwig Posted May 11, 2022 Report Posted May 11, 2022 I had a guy today that is part of a team restoring a 2-seat MiG 15. They hope to have it flying again in the next couple of months if anyone is interested in going for a ride. I can't clearly remember where... either Missouri or Ohio if I remember correctly. Not a small operation, they are an air museum, just didn't have much time to talk with him about it, we were talking about too many other planes. Klaiber 1 Quote

Would be awesome to have another flying MiG-15UTI. Quote
Vonrd Posted May 11, 2022 Author Report Posted May 11, 2022 10 hours ago, Klaiber said: @Vonrd - I have another possible project for you: It's a Mikoyan-Gurevich MIG-19S Farmer C from 1968. 872 Red, from Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 "Wladimir Komarow.“ Here are the Championships they're talking about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAI_World_Aerobatic_Championships And here are some other views: https://www.diecast.es/en/mig19s-panzerkapmf-1462pb.html <-- note that they incorrectly label the unit as "Jagdgeschwader." Working on it. Unfortunately, the Razbam template is (as typical) a POS. The fuselage was not properly UV mapped and any straight lines are curved, particularly in the nose where the fuselage constricts. This is understandable and part of converting a 3D object to 2D. What's annoying is that the left and right sides are different in the curvature. That's just sloppy UV mapping. No matter. I like a challenge and this is a cool skin! If you have any others, let me know. Klaiber 1 Quote

Vonrd Posted May 15, 2022 Author Report Posted May 15, 2022 East German MiG-19S (Farmer C) of 1 Staffel/JG3. Pilot Htm Heinz Stammberger. One of two painted in a special scheme for the 5th FAI World Areobatic Championships at Magdeberg, GDR in 1968. Both aircraft crashed during training and neither flew during the championships. Klaiber Posted May 16, 2022 Report Posted May 16, 2022 For everyone flying DCS with us: I've updated the DDR Paint Pack to include all of @Vonrd's new skins (the Mi-24P and MiG-19P). Additionally, I've added some static skins for the Yak-52, the L-39C/ZA and MiG-29A/G. Lipfert 1 Quote

Vonrd Posted May 29, 2022 Author Report Posted May 29, 2022 This one's for Klaiber... "Think Pink"! East German MiG-21PFM No. 738 of the NVA and 22+25 of the German AF after re-unification, Serial #: 94A4301. It is now on display on a pylon at the Technik Museum Speyer, Germany and painted (as C993) in the (strangely fanciful) colors of the "Red Archers" display team of the Indian Air Force. Why the pink color instead of red which is what the "Red Archers" used and the incorrect colors of the roundel's and fin flash, I have no answer. I decided to keep the colors as they are on the museum's display aircraft. Submitted to DCS User Files and also here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/825lu5630ea6juj/Indian Air Force MiG-21FL C993.zip?dl=0 Lipfert, Klaiber and Snaggle 2 1 Quote
Vonrd Posted May 29, 2022 Author Report Posted May 29, 2022 Photograph prior to installation on July 25, 2003 and when new on it's pylon. It's sad condition on December 18, 2021. Lipfert and Klaiber 2 Quote
Vonrd Posted May 29, 2022 Author Report Posted May 29, 2022 I've figured out how to individualize the pilots, uniforms and helmets. Yes, that's my face. If anyone's interested I would need a straight on looking at the camera portrait photo. If you just want a custom helmet without a photo that can happen as well. Vonrd Posted May 30, 2022 Author Report Posted May 30, 2022 I reduced the tint and metallicness of the visor. Worked on the helmet. I think I'll work on the Hip next so that I can look at the copilot and see myself. (Or maybe I'll try to use Snag's forum picture. Then I'll be able to see Snag in the right seat... ). Klaiber Posted May 30, 2022 Report Posted May 30, 2022 @Vonrd - I had a project for you if you were interested. For the JG-1 skins in the pack, I was wondering if you could create a single historically correct pilot. Something that would be generic to go into each skin. Of course, the pilot could then be personalized if people wanted. Like you've done with yours. But for when downloaded, everyone would get the default. What do you think? . . . If we go with the standard flight outfit for the LSK, circa 1970s, they'll have their rank bars on their sleeves. We can make our default pilot an Unterleutnant (Ult.) or something like that. This is right in the middle of the rank structure: https://jg1.org/schmenkel/ranks/ We could then use a fake person for the face, taken from This Person does Not Exist. This way, no one real is used, and thus no privacy concerns are triggered. What about this guy (who I just created): Here are some examples of 1970s-era pilot gear: As you can see, the rank bars are on the sleeve. I *think* the color of the flight suit is gray-green. Though it might be gray-blue in some examples. I'm having a hard time verifying this. Perhaps @Graxh, @Zapp_Brannigan, @Balge, or @Firefly know? Quote

I'll look into the uniform colors and patch locations. I would like to do something other than a plain white helmet. Examples? http://www.comtourist.com/images/large/speyer/speyer-zsh-3-pilot-helmet-01.jpg I think a "Tactical Moustache" is a requirement though... Klaiber 1 Quote
