Ludwig Posted March 19, 2022 Report Posted March 19, 2022 I had a former East German pilot in the sim with me today and we were talking about the planes that were available to fly (for a fee) here in the USA and in Europe now and he was commenting on the old MiGs and said that the recoil from the 37mm cannon was so strong that it would knock as much as 30 kts off your speed. He recommended having the nose low when firing and not near the stall speed lest it really upset the aircraft. I asked him if he was exaggerating, and he said quite plainly... nope... not kidding it was really that strong. Shadepiece, Britchot and Klaiber 3 Quote
Vonrd Posted March 19, 2022 Author Report Posted March 19, 2022 I've heard this about lots of planes with big guns, from the B-25G with the 75mm cannon to the A-10. Makes sense because... physics... Quote

This skin does not include GDR. Here is a modified version for the 3rd FAD that does: description.lua You'll probably want to reupload it to the MVP K52 server. The version I'll release in the JG1 Paint Pack will be modified to include GDR. Quote

This new description has all the countries you had, plus GDR. GDR was a late addition to DCS World. So any older skin you used as a template may not have it. 1 hour ago, Vonrd said: I'm going to put that in every description.lua from now on. Should it be added to the existing skins also? The MiG-21s you've made (shark and white shark) are both okay, as the template you used already had GDR. The Bf 109K doesn't really matter, as it will never be on a GDR map. So, I think we're good. It's just this one and all others moving forward. 1 hour ago, Vonrd said: Both Dropbox and DCS User Files have been modified with the new lua. Thanks! Vonrd and Shadepiece 1 1 Quote
Vonrd Posted March 31, 2022 Author Report Posted March 31, 2022 Mi-24 depicting an Mi-24D at the Militärhistorisches Museum - Flugplatz Berlin-Gatow. The helicopter originally served the DDR as 521. There are three versions. JG1_5211 has the numbers in the skin and Bort numbers are disabled. JG1_5211_Bort_4XX and JG1_5211_Bort_5XX are made to use Bort numbers. I had to do a work around since the Mi-24 liveries all have only 2 Bort numbers and I couldn't get 3 numbers to work. So, select the one which has your first number (4XX or 5XX) and you can load the last 2 numbers when you re-arm / re-fuel. I'll be submitting the plain 5211 to DCS user files but here is the link to all three: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cqwurj0aytzgttv/AAA0WnmGotzrlD8BDs3oAfY4a?dl=0 Britchot and Klaiber 1 1 Quote

What do you say Klai? Those are pretty cool skins! The F-86 is historical. It's Erich Hartmann's. https://www.aviationgraphic.com/aviation-lithographs/2897-f-86f-sabre-ja-111-hartmann-s-black-tulip-jp-2002.html The MiG-15 is not historical. It's done in Hermann Graf's markings. Hermann Graf was accused of collaboration with the Soviets after the war, so I think that's why his WW2 Fw 190 markings are being used. But he never flew for the East German Air Force. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_Graf#/media/File:Fw_190_A5_U7_Graf_Wiki.jpg Shadepiece 1 Quote
Klaiber Posted May 10, 2022 Report Posted May 10, 2022 @Vonrd - I have another possible project for you: It's a Mikoyan-Gurevich MIG-19S Farmer C from 1968. 872 Red, from Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 "Wladimir Komarow.“ Here are the Championships they're talking about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAI_World_Aerobatic_Championships And here are some other views: https://www.diecast.es/en/mig19s-panzerkapmf-1462pb.html <-- note that they incorrectly label the unit as "Jagdgeschwader."
