Well go get $50 clams out of the kitty and get your shiny new Corsair. DCS: F4U-1D Corsair by Magnitude 3 LLC

  2. Started by Ludwig,

I really didn't think that it would come to this but apparently the Collings foundation has pulled the plug on their wonderful collection of flyable aircraft and they are no longer going to allow them to depart the Earth. I hope I read this wrong.... maybe someone here will correct me that I have it incorrect. This is really sad, I grew up with the CAF in HRL and that was the CONFEDERATE Airforce... not the more recent politically correct version. Great bunch of guys and we had a blast down in South Texas back in the day and it was even non-radar back well into the 80's. Maybe they will sell off their collection and allow others to operate and enjoy these mach…

  5. A pilot friend from work is wanting to put together a flight sim primarily for DCS and MSFS. He is looking at a rig from microcenter and asking for advice. He’s planning on using a Quest 3. While I know a little, I’m not an expert especially with AMD so asking what you guys think. I’m hoping to have him over in next couple days to try mine out. He sent me the following pics of what he’s looking at.

  6. Started by Vonrd,

Someone asked last night if torpedo bombing was a thing in WWI. On 12 August 1915, a Royal Naval Air Service Short 184 floatplane torpedo bomber sank a Turkish merchantman in the Sea of Marmara. It was operating from HMS Ben-my-Chree, a seaplane carrier converted from a ferry. Fitted with an aircraft hangar, Ben-my-Chree was used to carry up to six biplanes with their wings folded back to reduce carrying space. This was the first ship sunk by air-launched torpedo. Five days later, another ship supplying Turkish forces in the Gallipoli campaign against British, Australian and New Zealand troops was also sunk. Production of the Short 184 continued until afte…

  7. Started by Gabi,

This is a 1/6 scale gas-powered RC flying model of the Fokker DRI. I began work on this model over 20 years ago and recently realized I really need to finish it. So I have been working pretty steadily on it for the last few weeks. The primary structure and control system work is pretty much finished and I am working on detailing the cockpit interior prior to covering the airframe with fabric. The model has a 48" wingspan.

  8. We are inviting the public to join us for a second special DCS event on the Sinai map. Mission involves both airplanes and helicopters and is based on a fictionalized 1975 Yom Kippur scenario and is a competitive, score based battle (first team to 100 points wins). We did this scenario on March 15 and by popular request we will host two more events in May. Events will start on: Saturday, May 3 1100-1400 EST (US)/1500-1800 UTC Saturday, May 10 1300-1600 EST (US)/1700-2000 UTC with team prebrief 30 min prior. 14. While websurfing I decided to take a look at the Ohio State University archives and came across my MFA Thesis from 1985. Unfortunately it was a pretty poor quality PDF especially because I didn't use archival materials when assembling it. Pretty sure that I used spray adhesive to mount the photos because there was lots of adhesive bleed which discolored the paper. I've spent the last week or so Photoshopping the images to somewhat bring them back to how I remember them to have been. The text is somewhat embarrassing as to it's quality and you can probably tell from the images subject matter that I wasn't in the best emotional shape at the time. But I do have real…

I think that I might have quoted the Bloody April times incorrectly. The Briefing starts at 19:00 UTC (which is actually one hour past the normal FIF time. For me in Pacific current time, it's Noon). There isn't a defined mission start time. It starts once the Briefing is finished.

  16. This problem is not unique to this site since it is also happening at the Combat Pilot forums. https://forum.combatpilot.com/topic/53-technical-issues/?do=findComment&comment=9215 When I click the Leaderboard link and then open the Past Leaders page it opens just fine to page 1 but if I click on any of the other page links 2, 3, 4, etc. the page does not update to the new page. I stay on the original page. The only way I can get the page to update is to click on the link which does update the browser line, but does not go to the requested page, and then use F5 or Ctrl-F5 so the page updates. Once I refresh the page if I want a new page I have to follow the s…

  22. Started by Gabi,

Here are a few photos of a 16" wingspan non-flying display model I'm finishing up. I painted the entire thing by hand with a brush... including the lozenge pattern fabric and all the markings. I'm still tweaking the weathering a bit and have a little cleanup to do but it's basically finished.
