There was naturally a lot of attention paid to the recent 80th anniversary of D-Day, but in the days since then, perhaps not so much to the battles which unfolded after the invasion. Today's the 80th anniversary of a battle which has particular personal resonance for me, so I thought I'd post about it ... The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada was commanded at various times by my great-grandfather George Cantlie, my grandfather Stephen Cantlie, and various other family members also served in it. On 25 July 1944, when it was under the command of my grandfather's cousin Stuart Cantlie, it attacked Verrières Ridge south of Caen as part of Operation Spring…

I share with him most of what he says and am hopeful for a positive outcome. I do disagree about what "full fidelity" means. For me it means being able to directly interact with the aircraft and that means being able to virtually operate controls within the cockpit ("Clickable"). That being said, I won't discard a sim solely because of "no clicky".

I've installed this using OVGME and it really does make it much easier to read labeling and instruments. Confirmed that it passes integrity checks. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3339136/

Enigma is leaving as Admin of his DCS CW server. Heatblur taking over. The Cold War and the WWII eras are really my main interest in DCS. I do have the more modern modules but hardly ever fly them. I really hope that the CW server will continue and think that we should support it by flying it more often during practices. There are not really any other CW PVP servers as alternatives.

I finally got this working and it's a gamechanger IMHO. You can watch a Youtube tutorial while in game (I watch the pertinent part while in Active Pause which allows me to click whichever switches). Pause the vid and close the browser then fly that part of the mission. Hit Active Pause again and re-open the browser to continue or re-wind and go over it again. Here's the thread that I had in Bug Reports: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/350838-virtual-browser/ And here's the page from the Manual. Note the part about selecting "Full" in the HB UI Domain Access in the game Specials tab for the F-4E.

@Flyboy, this is what I was talking about using the Jester short, long and double presses. It's more like Petrovitch in the Hind. Currently I only use the Jester wheel for ground ops and pre engagement (but I'm still in early stage struggling). Just starting ground attack and I'm still floundering...

I'm still wading through learning the Rhino and am hoping that those with more success / experience with it would be so kind as to list the essential buttons that need to be mapped to HOTAS and what their particular function is. I have the basics but am struggling with radar, weapons and nav/comm.

This is a lot of fun and really good practice for low level sharp maneuvering as well as rockets / gunnery. I have yet to make it through to Round 3 due to running out of ammo. You have to be pretty accurate and kill the targets using the minimum amount of ammo. Here's the blurb by the mission builder, Dzen: There are 8 turns on the track. The entrance to the track and the finish line are marked with gates made of TV towers. You start from the helipad, the entrance gate is right in front of you. Targets are placed on the track, they must be hit before the turns, next to which they are located. On the first round they are (Fuel) tanks, on the second round they are …

The AC is a C-46 which was acquired from the Marines after sitting at Pensacola for years. Pending restoration. This particular aircraft actually flew supply missions over the "hump' to China in WWII. I never realized a ball gunner in a B17 did not have a down-the-barrel sighting mechanism Exhaust flame suppressor used on C-47s carrying paratroops and gliders to destinations in France in the wee hours of 6/6/44
