S! All, Wednesday's mission (Mission 1a - July 15 at 9PM EDT / 1AM GMT) will be flown on the JG1 server, not the No.42 Squadron server. This is due to server lag on the No.42 Squadron server. We're hoping to have things ironed out by Mission 2a (next week), and return to the No.42 Squadron server at that point. I'll keep you posted. Looking forward to flying with you all! -Klaiber

Hi All, Do to unexpected server lag, we're going to have another North American mission test on Monday, July 13th at 9PM EDT. The mission will be run on the No.42 Squadron server, with the password being given out via TeamSpeak before mission start. Looking forward kicking FIF off!

Hi All, Flanders In Flames XXIb is fast approaching! Full tournament start is slated for the week of July 15th / July 18th! This week, however, we have two test missions. The first is on Wednesday, July 8th at 9:00PM EDT (1:00AM GMT). This will be hosted on the No.42 Squadron server: http://72.5.195.130:8000/ The second is on Saturday, July 11th at 2:00PM EDT (6:00PM GMT). Hi All, I'm sure a lot of you are already aware of the problems with the latest 1.036 patch. I think that 1.036 was meant to remove the boarders between the field and weapon modifications, as well as make the St.Mihiel campaign available to everyone. However, an unforeseen consequence has been that player-controlled gunners have been negatively impacted. The Bug: For most people, when you take over a gun turret on any aircraft, TrackIR and gun controls do not work. Further, when you leave someone's backseat, you land up deactivating the AI gunner, making him immobile and ineffective. Also, players seem to have the ability to kick each other out…

S! All, With FIF XX now concluded, there has been a lot of talk about how we can make Flanders In Flames even better for 2015! On Wednesday, January 7th, representatives from Black Haze, Jasta 5, Jagdgeschwader 1, and No.42 Squadron met on TeamSpeak to discuss the tournament. What came out of this meeting were a lot of good ideas on how to move forward. Not only were BH and J5 members added to the list of tournament coordinators, but it was decided that two new rules would be added to the tournaments ruleset. Firstly, all participating squadrons should be prepared to fly for either the Central Powers or the Entente Powers. And secondly, mission nights sh…

S! All In Wen discussion, someone mentioned having an additional hidden target. I mentioned at that time that I was trying to come up with a different level bomber target to replace the planes on the aerodrome attack mission. I believe Klaiber brought up the work being done on Zeppelin bases by the 3D modelers. Well, it is now time to try and put this all together. I believe that the Aerodrome attack mission can be modified by replacing the planes with a balloon on the ground. A balloon is not a Zeppelin but we have to work with what we have. This gives us a larger target that is easier to see. To prevent low level attack a couple more AAA trucks are added. T…

Hi All, Tomorrow (Wednesday, February 4th) will be the dry-run for the FIF XXI tournament. As of this post, the dry-run will take place on the No.42 server, which should be locked. The server password will be distributed before the server launches. This will happen via TeamSpeak. If you're new to FIF, please make sure you get your team's TeamSpeak information. It should be available in either the Central or the Entente areas of the JG1 forum. The server launch will be at 8:45PM EST. However, the dry-run will not officially start until 9:00PM EST. S! All We have a new area. It is an area that involves what would become southern Poland and the Ukrane. The map is called Tarnopol in the mission editor. This is a city in the northern part of the map. The Carpathian mountains are west and south. It looks like a much more interesting place. The problem is the amount of forest cover limits target positioning. There are no trench lines to make a visual cue for where home is. There are plenty of rivers. I have made a preliminary map for FiF. It is smaller than we normally use. It is 35 km X 35 km. The purpose of this is to let people fly on a new area and become familiar with it. High Command found out about the rampant fraternization during the Holidays, and both Central and Entente pilots are being sent back into the skies to reignite the bloody campaign. Mission #4 of FIFXX will be played on Wednesday, January 14th. Server Start is at 8:45PM EST, with Mission Start at 9:00PM EST. S! All, I wanted to offer an explanation as to why FIFXX ended the way it did. I also wanted to offer my sincere apologies to anyone I may have upset with that decision. It was my call, so I take responsibility for it. To understand what happened, it's important to look at the last month. FIFXX was originally supposed to be completed well before November 27th (U.S. Thanksgiving). However, we had two cancellations (on November 12th and November 19th) due to disconnects. And then we had a week break for the holiday. And while we flew a good mission on December 3rd, we were then forced to cancel December 10th due to low Entente numbers. These three cancellations…

To paraphrase Norman Jorgenson: the guns of Flanders have stopped firing. A deathly silence now creeps over the pitted and ruined landscape. With those words, Flanders in Flames XX has concluded in a draw. This cease-fire will last until at least January 2015, when we will start preparing for another FIF campaign - Flanders in Flames XXI! New things are on the horizon for both the ROF game and this tournament. So I look forward to seeing all you in the virtual skies again after the holidays! Hi Guys, As all of you know, we've been stuck on Mission #3 of the FIF XX campaign for the last few weeks. This has been due to server instability. But, as the old idiom says: "third time's the charm!" And the hope is that the server maintenance on November 26th may have helped stabilize things. So, this Wednesday, December 3rd, will be an official mission. The server kick off is 8:45PM EST. The mission start is 9PM EST. Passwords will be given out before the server launches. In order to prevent excessive kicks during the Wednesday mission, it's recommend that FIF pilots who are experiencing problems do the following: Delete the mission files wit…

S! All, After two mission scrubs due to server problems, JG1 and No.42 tested the Mission 1 map last night on the JG1 server. Unfortunately, despite switching servers, we had still had a number of 10019 errors. It was so bad for some of us that it became unplayable. At this point, we're not sure what's going on. Both the No.42 server and the JG1 server are reporting the same problems. Hi All, We've had a major problem with the FIF mission file, and as a result, we'll need to delay the tournament by one week. We'll now be starting FIF XX on Wednesday, October 29th at 8:45PM EDT. Tomorrow (Wednesdsay, October 22nd) will instead be a test for a new map! Please mark your calendars with the change. And check back to the FIF forums within the next day. A newly constructed map and objective list will be posted soon! For those interested, here's what happened: The Digital Nature Engine on our old map was getting bogged down, and caused the mission clock to slow down, stop, or even run backwards. This meant that a 2 hour mission would run for 3 to 5 hours…

S! All No.42 Sq will be hosting a preview of Flanders in Flames XX this Saturday night at 9:00 pm eastern time. It will be the Channel map with high altitude bombers. All are welcome. For those not familiar with Flanders in flames please visit Flanders There is heavy flak below 1 k meters along the front. Recon targets are hidden and must be found. Trench mapping is an area recon along the front for Entente only and can be done with any recon plane. Recon planes must have the photo load out.
