Flanders in Flames Fall campaign 2019

Leaves are dropping. Days are shorter. There is a chill in the air. Bullets are flying. Bombs are dropping.

It must be Flanders in Flames Fall Campaign 2019.

 

All the particulars are posted under FiF tournament information.

Of special note will be the map for this series. If you have flown Jasta 5's excellent series "Bloody April" you will recognize it as the northern half of that area. We have not used this area for an FiF. We use it now because of the great variety of rivers, roads and rail roads. The plane set will be early: N-17, N-17 GB, Strutter, RE8, Halb D.II, Halb Cl2 and Roland Cl2.

 

We will have a Dry Run on 5, October, 2019 at the usual time.

Just a thought, but a big one:

N17 is bit overpowered against Halb D.II, but the nerfed Tripehound would be much closer match. We didn't see much Triplane action since 2014 (duh!) and I think a Tripe vs Halb FiF will be opportunity to fly something new and unexplored in RoF (and more balanced than N.17 vs D.II)..

By the way you worded that, it is unclear whether you mean that the N17 has too much power compared to the Halb D.II, or that you think it is overwhelmed by the Halb D.II's performance.  I am guessing that you mean the latter?

The N17 is quite a bit faster than the Halb, and climbs quite a bit better, too.  It also takes a lot of damage without any reduction in performance.  The British version is available if you want a faster rate of fire and the ability to shoot from below.  The N17 is certainly harder to fly....but once you master it can beat a Halb one on one every time.  The rest is determined by the teamwork and tactics of each team.

The N17 is the only scout in the current matchup that can actually keep pace with the 2-seaters it is up against; it's speed and that of it's opponent 2-seaters is for all intents and purposes the same (without bombs on), depending on what version of N17 you fly (the British version is 2 Kph slower at 1,000 m than the synchronized gun versions).

The Halb is 17 -23 Kph slower than it's 2-seater opponents at that same altitude.  I actually feel kinda sorry for the Central side in that respect.  Don't forget how points are scored in FiF.

I find that the Tripehound is almost, if not just as difficult to fly as the N17.  They both have terrible precession and even full left rudder is often inadequate to keep the nose down in tight left turns.  However, it makes some difference how you have the trim wheel set in the Tripe.

In this iteration of FiF, the 2-seaters ARE by far the most dangerous.  You could get into any of them and just fly them as scouts, Brisfit-style....if they're not loaded down with bombs or excess fuel, and you have some spare ones to use.  Personally, I might just wave at them as they go by  :)  unless I have a LOT of friends to help who are in the correct position to do so.

I feel just as bad for Halbs against twin-gun Sopwiths as I do for N17s against twin-gun Rolands! It's one thing to catch it, but then you have to avoid being blasted in the face ;) 

Not a fan of the Tripehound or the N17, but I find the 17 much harder. If it decides to snap you out of that left turn then you completely lose control for a few precious seconds...not to mention that sometimes it'll refuse to go left in the first place! The British one is even worse IMO. They're definitely both 'specialist' planes. The Halb isn't the easiest little scout to fly either when it decides to wingtip stall. Should make for some interesting match-ups!

Brief update.

 A target subtitle was found to have the correct name but wrong location. Corrected. 

The "Bridge Killed" message was being displayed during the first target list update after the flare. 

This was thought to be a subtitle error. Nope. A counter error. Nope. A display array error. Nope. A bad truck.Nope. A bad bridge? Yup. The AAA truck was not going up on the bridge. It was going through the bridge and into the river where it died and gave a "Killed" message to the counter. The bridge had to be changed for a different model.

Yes another subtitle error now fixed.

 

Major problem. Invisible object was found at Prison 1 on the Entente side. We saw these on the England side of the Channel map.   GameCock, sent me pictures of location. Normally I place a water tower there to show people where it is. This time I removed the Aerodrome structures and replaced it with a different model. It worked !  Invisible object gone. 

The invisible object is some sort of problem with the model and skin of one of the aerodrome hangar models/skins.

Not sure what happened with the massive game server connection lost event. The server did not go down and was not affected.

There was a lot of confusion. People were caught off guard about what to do. FiF Administrators are looking things over and will have some decision in a few days.

 

Definition  of few:  More than 1, less than 6.

Admins have looked over the rules and the rules say the score stands as is.

The result is that the admins have thrown out the rules and rightly so. Session 1 has been scrubbed from the records. Session 1 will be re-flown on the next regular scheduled time.

The massive disco due to unknown causes was too much to to accept. The event is designed around fair play. The missions on each side are not the same and many missions require special planes. The loss of these planes and the time limit of the session resulted in a completely unacceptable situation.

 

Special note:  Any targets destroyed or missions completed after the "Hostilities are over" subtitle are not counted towards the score.  This keeps the time available to complete missions the same for both teams.

The Admins have not been able to find why we have the disconnect from game server.  The game server has not changed. The server files have not changed. We are running the same mission we did in phase A. Only the planes and some subtitles have been changed.  We run the server for FC Thursday night flyin. We often have thirty or more people online and we do not see the disconnect error.

 

Plan moving forward:

November 23 at the usual time we will run Session 2. Red team is Entente, Blue team is Central. At least targets will be in new places. IF, big IF this session is OK, then we will try session 3 on December 7 at the usual time. IF this session is OK, then we will use the scores from these two sessions and that will be the end of the Fall Campaign.

Should the November 23 have the disconnect problem we will end the fall campaign at that time.

We had a mission with no big disco dump. We still do not know what caused the discos.

We will run the same mission on December 7. Even map. Blue team will be Entente and Red team will be Central.

This will be the final mission for this campaign.😥  Sorry we have had these problems.

FiF is in transition to Flying Circus. For those that want to see a preview, after the Dec 7th session of FiF the server will be changed over to an FiF Flying Circus mission. It will take about 10 minutes to change it over. More about this next week.
