  2. Salute gentlemen! We cordially invite you all to come celebrate the happy news of Rise of Flight's continued development from Jason and the team! Years of uncertainty and doubt have been vanquished and we have much to look forward to with the recent announcement of the Flying Circus package coming soon. This week's Sunday Vintage Mission will take us to a classic battle in the vicinity of Roye-Montdidier, France in mid June 1918. Historical Background: The Battle of Noyon-Montdidier, 9-13 June 1918, was the fourth of General Erich von Ludendorff’s great offensives of the spring and summer of 1918 that came close to breaking the Allied lines on the western front, b…

  3. Salute gentlemen! I'm pleased to annouce that with the kind permission of Jasta99 on Sunday, November 12 we will host the great "Der Adler von Lille", the "Eagle of Lille" tournament map. The original event was put on by Jasta99 to commemorate the 99th anniversary of Max Immelmann's death (16 June, 1916) and was an epic event for the whole Rise of Flight community. This year we'll mark the 101st anniversary of Immelmann's being named to be soley responsible for the air defense of the city of Lille. The man: Immelmann served as a pilot with Feldflieger Abteilung (Field Flier Detachment) 10 from February to April 1915, and then in FFA 62 by early May 1915. On seve…

  4. I was looking for a photo of Reinhard for my profile, and ran across this one on the warnepieces blogspot site: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4-Fcr-2OmQA/TzyWAhuQWWI/AAAAAAAAAvM/_Q89sxk9bqA/s1600/Kurt+Wusthoff+and+PLM+holders+1918.jpg I don’t know the credentials of this guy as a historian, but I enjoyed his site, and I’m pretty sure the men in the photo are correctly identified: Left to right: Kurt Wüsthoff, Wilhelm Reinhard, Manfred von Richthofen, Erich Löwenhardt, and Lothar von Richthofen. You’ll notice that the image of Wüsthoff is okay, but the photo becomes more distorted and skewed as you scan from left to right. All the other copies I’ve s…

  8. Salute gentlemen! Since we have an open weekend between the end of Jasta 5's Black September Campaign and the start of the Flanders in Flames Campaign next weekend, we will feature a Vintage Mission Weekend for all those looking for action with missions all day Saturday and Sunday. Mission Schedule - #1 Saturday- 1600GMT - Battle of Sissone - November 1916 Intel report: Recent Intelligence reports indicate that the Germans might prepare a counter attack after our failed offensive. A lot of troop movements have been spotted just behind their lines. French escadrilles stationed at Bonnemaison Ferme are operating from forward airfields at Vauxcere and Maizy. In a despera…

  9. Salute gentlemen, this Sunday's Vintage Mission will bring us a classic matchup of old, for those brave enough to attempt it. The Sopwith Camel vs. the Fokker Dr.I They are limited in number on both sides, and completion of objectives spawn more of each type aircraft. I've never been much of a camel jock in the days either pre or post patch but we all know she lost some power and speed. However, remember the fuel loads here are unlocked and you can adjust the weight accordingly, of course so can the Dr.I's but it's up to each individual pilot to load out the fuel he wants, bearing in mind endurance vs. performance. Also of note, in testing this map seemed to have some…

S! All Satellite is an 1956 just on the edge of space movie. The opening scene is a Vulcan take off. Very impressive. The "Space ship" looks like Fireball XL-5. There is a scene with a lovely small jet. Very good shots of take off and flying. Anyone know this plane? Found it. Folland Midge - prototype for production plane, Folland Gnat

  12. Greetings gentlemen! For this week's Vintage Mission will take us to the 30th of November, 1917. We will go down and dirty into the mud of the trenches for close ground support with the boys in the Battle of Cambrai. BATTLE OF CAMBRAI Date: 30.11.1917 Weather conditions: Overcast, wind direction 140 degrees, 3.5 m/s at ground Mission Duration: 9.00am-13.30pm The Germans reinforced Cambrai so rapidly that it became clear that it was possible to go over to the attack, the first attack made by the Germans on the Western Front since Verdun. A pincer mover was planned, with attacks from north and south driving to Metz to surround the British forces. The attack was to …

Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations is about to release it's second stand-alone dlc/campaign, called Shifting Sands. This campaign is going to explore Arab-Israel conflicts, including the Six Day War and beyond. Should be really fun, if anyone is interested! More details here.

  21. Salute gentlemen! This weeks Sunday Vintage Mission will put us into the area of operations over Lens - June 1918. This mission is unique in a couple of ways. 1. There is only 1 photo recon for each side, you must take the recon plane with a camera to complete the mission, however you will NOT get the camera icon, either at mission start or over target. Instead, you will get subtitles which direct you what to do. It is a rather large area that requires 2 full circuits to complete. Down and back is considered 1 full circuit. Also *VERY IMPORTANT* the recon plane must land at the same aerodrome where it left from, it will NOT count to land at any other friendly…

  22. Started by Kliegmann,

Started looking at new computers last night. Mine's 5+ years old and starting to show its age (I bought Total War Warhammer, and can just barely run it). After looking at several prices, comparisons and benchmarks, it looks like I'm staying with the AMDs. So the one I'm staring very hard at is an AMD FX 6300 3.5 ghz 6-core with a GTX 1050 Ti for around $700. I could do without all the LED bs, I'm sure that added another $30-$50 to the price tag, but oh well. (Seems to be a 30-50 frame machine (30's on BF 1) Couldn't find any benchmarks on this rig with P3D v3, which beside ROF and BoX is the sim I fly the most). Really in the benchmarks the only thing that really p…

  24. Greetings gentlemen! This weeks Sunday Vintage Mission will see us at the Battle of Montdidier - April 10, 1917 - Nivelle Offensive This is a standard format, 6-flag map that requires recon flights to activate the target, then heavy bombardment to destroy it. Weather report: Cloud base at 1100m. Wind 3-4 m/s, from the north The snow that has been falling yesterday has melted away during the night. Historical Background: The Nivelle Offensive in 1917, was a Franco-British offensive on the Western Front in the First World War. The French part of the offensive was intended to be strategically decisive, by breaking through the German defences on the Aisne front within…
