Hi. Most of you likely don't know me, but that isn't important. What is though, is that I just got back from the National Museum of the United States Air Force. I took somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 photographs, and have put about 50 or so of their Early Years/WWI aircraft into this gallery: https://imgur.com/a/Y7kf4 Thought some of you might be interested. As I said, I've got tons more of their other exhibits as well. I'll post those if anybody's interested. Enjoy.

What do you call this? Ground coordinated radar? I'd love to fly the Mig with one!

Looks like tomorrow is canceled Salute Gentlemen, until end of registration phase, only two days before the event, we have got a total of 39 registrations. Two of them were only tentative. Too few pilots for a large map that is designed for more than 60 Pilots and even then the map is still huge for those slow aircraft like E.III or D.H.2. Probably it's because of the ongoing European Football Championship ( Soccer for our U.S. Friends ) where we have matches at the same time or because of holiday time. However, we decided to skip the event and we will discuss an alternate date. I'm sorry to disappoint people who have …

This looks really cool, and not too difficult. I wonder what the price of materials would be? They have a side-stick version too, as well as a way to rig a throttle up to act like a helo collective! Do It Yourself Floor Unit Frames

  5. We lost one of our dear squadmates last month when WWWhiteLily passed away. She was one of our most disciplined flyers and a very good person. She leaves behind a son and two daughters and will be greatly missed by us all. It is our tradition to perform the Missing Man formation when a member leaves us and we will be doing so for Lily next Sunday in the ROF platform. If any of your squad members are interested in attending you are more than welcome. I have PM'd our TS info to Klaiber for those who are interested. Thankyou, WWGeezer CO WingWalkers Here is the announcement: And the detailed instructions: ...and just for fun, a video from Joint …

Hello I have opened this topic in hopes of people announcing publicly that they have returned to Jagdgeschwader I so that we may all give them the warm welcome they deserve and get them back in the cockpits or wherever they may like. Kind regards, Adalbert vonAdler

As the title says, there's currently a sale going on at the DCS website site. On a related note, the 40% off for the Mirage as finally convinced me to switch from the Steam version to the standalone!

Here are a few shots from the Military Aviation Museum’s 2016 “Flying Prom.†Music provided by Virginia Beach’s symphony orchestra, Symphonicity. Aircraft are from the museum’s collection. I only took still photos, so no music. You really had to be there. Program includes music with appropriate aircraft flying. For example, the de Havilland Mosquito flew to the “633 Squadron†theme. The Fokker Dr.1s, D.VII and Albatros D.Va flew to the suite from “The Red Baron.†The Wildcat and Aichi “Val†flew to the “War & Tennessee†Suite from “Pearl Harbor.†And of course the Hurricane, Spitfire and Bf 109 flew to the suit from “Battle of…

I was running around town yesterday going through antique shops and found these two books. They're both war time books as first is printed in 1942 and the second is printed in 1943! The interesting thing about the second one is one of the peculiarities in the illustrations inside. It's one of the first illustrations and it clearly depicts a P-39 taking a high angle lead shot on a German plane that, while an inline engined fighter, is clearly not a Bf-109. I thought that was kind of odd that with all of the war time pictures of planes on both sides it should have been easy to draw up an actual Luftwaffe fighter if they were going to go through the has…

This time I found it in a video on YouTube explaining relativity (of all things). One of the characters is in a spaceship and this is what they used for the cockpit: And then he moved out of the way for a few seconds: It's the Su-25! The older version without the heads-down-display: Here's a link to the video if you're curious. It's actually a pretty good video, even if the narration and music want to put you to sleep: And that has been today's episode of "DCS in the Wild." Stay tuned for the next one, you never know where we might find the beast!

Is this the same JG1 that played Red Baron II way back in the day? Any of the old guys still around? Mortiz, Kroll, Wolfgang?

  17. Started by Somnus,

Hey guys, I got the opportunity to visit the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL last week. I don't have much experience with naval aviation, but I certainly found some things I enjoyed. I didn't get a picture of it because I was too busy climbing all over it, but they had the cockpit section of a German Democratic Republic Air Force MiG-21UM trainer, hood and all in the front cockpit. Unfortunately the canopy was closed, so, like I said, I could just climb all over it, looking at the switches and gauges and being pretty impressed with how well DCS modeled it. Here's a picture of it from their website: I did get some other neat pictures though! …

Hello all, I am relatively new to ROF (maybe 20 cumulative hours in different planes). I saw the FiF test server up the last two nights so I hopped on and looked around. I love the mission ideas and folks were friendly and encouraged me to come over here. I looked in the Store today and the planes are deeply discounted, so I wanted to buy a few while I can. I already have the Dolphin and SE5 on the Entente side. On the german side I have the DVII, DVIIF, and DVIII. I have the DR. I also but can't even get off the ground yet due to the torque. Of course I have the free planes as well. I am thinking about a medium bomber/ two seater for each side, a float plane …

S! All June 18 will fall on a Saturday this year. It will be exactly a 100 year since the death of Max Immelmann on that day. J99 will offer the Eagle of Lille event on that day as a memorial. I think we should all fly Eindeckers with a black stripe on the left wing. Well, it is a nice thought anyway. S!

  23. Hi Guys, Another article, found while surfing: http://kotaku.com/save-the-cat-or-die-trying-vr-asks-1768369251 Perhaps a test for new members?

  24. Hi Guys, I saw this today while surfing. http://gizmodo.com/this-software-creates-vivid-color-pictures-from-black-a-1768422767 Basically, to quote the article, it's a "new computer vision system that takes a grayscale image and then adds color to it in a way that looks convincing to humans... It doesn’t necessarily choose the right colors, merely ones that look plausible". There is a link at the bottom of the Gizmodo article, where you can try it out for yourself. I am dying to try some black and white photographs of WW1 German aircraft. However, I wasn't able to figure out how to make it work. I don't have IPython notebook, for example. If someone d…

I'm thinking about venturing into the world of first-person shooters and am considering purchasing Arma 3. https://arma3.com/ Does anybody here have experience in the Arma series? If so, would you mind answering a few questions I have about it? I have 3 younger brothers who watch me a lot, so would Arma 3 be appropriate content-wise for them to see? I'd be the only one playing it, but they often look over to see what I'm doing on my PC. Here's what I'm looking for in a shooter: - No zombies, aliens, or sci-fi storylines - Realistic military action, more towards simulation than arcade - No excessive profanity (some's probably inevitable, but not every oth…
