Salutations all - sorry for the inactivity lately and the weird question. For those of you unaware, my basement - along with my basement room containing all my recording, driving and flying equipment - flooded last week, so I'm in the middle of a cleanup, teardown and insurance claim process. My Obutto and Rift CV-1 were both on the floor when the carpet soaked through, so my mother is recommending I claim them both on my insurance claim. Main CPU: i5-8600k 3.6 Ghz 6-core main GPU: 1070 Ti FTW Edition boost clocked/8GB edition. Looking at the way the insurance claim process works, if I get approved for a new VR It will most likely be another Oculus Model. Consid…

I decided to give BoS a try while it's on sale. It has given me the opportunity to finally get a shot of the kind of graphic glitch I've been talking about in FC. In the attached shot the layer of green that runs through the gunsight is actually above the plane. From above it appears as normal terrain, until you try to land. The light blue is graphic dead space, and the real terrain is the green layer below the gunsight. A moment before this I had flown directly into trees that appeared to have tops above me, but flew right through them. Ever seen this before? This is actually worse than what I've seen in FC. Is there a cure?

It has long been a dream of mine to program the AI pilots into being something worth flying against in single player and not merely bullet sponges usable only as a tool to calibrate my Mk.II eyeballs for lead computing. I am only beginning to learn coding as a career path but I would like to know exactly what it is I need to know to start messing with the programming of bots. I have been encouraged in this by the fairly recent Alpha Dogfight trials which left me rather unimpressed with the performance of AI. I was thinking about using IL-2 1946 for this but I am unsure if the source code is available for this or if perhaps the necessary code is accessible for IL-2 GB. …

Was having a little go in the Bf-109 G-14, getting used to the torque on take off and putting in that right rudder and a bit of right brake. However I was finding it very difficult to slide my pedals how I wanted to whilst also putting downwards pressure on the toe brake to ensure I was taxiing in a straight line. I used the Saitek Pro Flight pedals for years but they broke and I heard they got really shoddy construction quality (they were already iffy) under Logitechs wing after Saitek got bought out. Wishing I'd saved up some more for some Crosswind pedals :(. Unsure if it's just my technique, or an issue inherent with the product. In DCS the rudder honestly d…

I've been playing DCG for a long time now and each time I get a new rig, I'm in hopes that I can fly dense combat missions without lag. My comp is pretty rigorous and can handle a lot of stuff but damn, each time i have lag. I don't know if massed bombers is lagging my game or what it is. Can someone send me some screens of their options tab so i can see what people are using. At this point with all the ram, vid cards i've bought, nothing seems to work. I dont think there is one rig that can handle "Full" everything to run this game . PLease help. Thanks.

Win 10 is a resource and data collecting sponge! Had horrible input lag on my stick.(old school run a clean boot) If you choose you cant cut a lot of unneeded bloat. And maybe even find Zupper power! (hidden power setting) Did about 90% of this with great results. Will see how long the changes hold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgW7iXejfqQ

Kameraden, My Alienware Aurora R4 875W power supply should arrive via Fedex on Wednesday, hopefully Customs does not slow it down. Sourced it from Texas with a 6 month warranty for $70. Don't feel bad at all about it, now I can build the new system over time. S!

So my Fiancé just got a desktop PC because a coworker needled her a little bit about using a laptop for her home office (she is a software developer). She bought the PC on craigslist and it's a mid-range gaming PC with a ASUS Crossfire V Formula - Z motherboard, 8GB RAM, GTX660 2GB video card, and a pair of SSD all running Windows 10. Everything seemed fine and dandy until we tried to use the audio jacks for her headset. Plugging the headset into the front jacks did nothing, and plugging them into the rear did nothing either. I looked into the sound settings and could only find audio for the HDMI connections. No options for anything else. I checked the device manager…

Hi folks, I haven't been doing the flight sims as much. I have a trusty Thrustmaster X HOTAS I've been using for a number of years. Right now the symptom I'm having is that if I pull the stick all the way down (as in climbing) the input will drop back to the center once the full range of the negative y axis is reached. Positive Y axis seems fine. I've put a link to a video below. The calibration looks weird and I need to figure that out, but it's mostly the Y axis thing I'm worried about.

Has anyone found a solution to the constantly changing controller ID's in Win10? I've done some searching and found reference to a third party software that allows you to specify joystick ID's but, as you might expect, the posts are old. I seem to recall hearing mention of a file replacement or the like that cures, or works around, the problem.

As VR is getting more and more popular for flight sims, I just thought to write down some of my experience and impressions with the new Pimax 8kX headset if anyone considers to purchase or preorder one. VR is now technically on the edge of fullfilling its expectations for the user, in particular: the visual quality of high resolution headsets provides an image quality in VR very close to a regular monitor. Before I got the 8kX, I had the Pimax 5k+, Samsung Odyssey ( and the Odyssey+ ) and before a HTC Vive. In terms of resolution the 8kX surely is the next step up and it does provide a lot more details in DCS. The cockpits in DCS became very rich in details, jus…

I was running into issues with my rudder/brakes, found out that I was a bit behind in the Virpil software, tried to update to the latest version but than the joystick wasn't recognised any more. Yes I did use the 1-by-1 method, but stumbled anyway. In the end I was able to open up my CM2 Base and re-flash the bootloader with help from the video below.

I saw this tip on the Virpil site, about saving your profile before updating the software: https://forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/2324-20200925-firmware-update-lost-profile/&do=findComment&comment=19702

Hey All, My computer is temporarily kaput. I have had a broken USB 2.0 port on the front of my computer for a while now. It's a sub-port, built into the PC tower. The internal tab broke off due to use. However, everything else worked no problems. It was just a physical break. You can see it here: Unfortunately, last night as I was talking to Moxy and Butzzell, I noticed that my computer wasn't picking up my flight stick, which was plugged into the adjacent USB port (to the right). Okay, so reboot time. Upon reboot, I got this: Great.... So, I removed all USBs from the computer and tried to restart, and I got the same error…

Kameraden, I've been wanting to have proper functioning MFD's for Falcon BMS and DCS for awhile now, I had spec'd out the components and was looking to 3D print the parts and build from scratch. Recently found the Cube Sim folks and turns out the product was cheaper than the parts I was purchasing. Here's a little bit of the work I'm doing to get these going, I'm using the MonsterTech MFD mounts. I will have to do some milling to open up the vent fan and mounting cutouts on the back. It is possible that I could mount a 3rd one for the F/A-18 setup, since I have the grip as well now. Unpacking after arrival: Initial setup: Protective cove…

Salutations everybody! I wanted to start thinking about some potential future upgrades for my current setup using TrackIR. As I've experimented with in flights, my Rift CV1's head tracking is too twitchy/sensitive/glitchy (off centers and can't look vertically without the view warping around) to use in IL:2: So I think the TrackIR w/ single monitor is going to continue to be the path I walk for flight sim visuals. My current monitor is this: HP LED monitor, 1600x900 pixels, 20 Inches size, 60hz refresh rate on a swing-out monitor stand using a VESA-Plate. I was thinking of potentially upsizing to a 1080p Monitor (or greater?) in the 25-35 inch range. I'm not …

Kameraden, I've just started to take a really close look at the controls in the game for Tank Crew. Here are my observations, results may vary. TrackIR works great, I've not tested VR yet. The "Lean to Gunsight" & "Take Control" will impact TrackIR, but looking around from the Commander Copula is really neat. I'm using "WASD" for steering and throttle, might test out axis on throttle for setting speed. You can multi-crew, results may vary but I see one person per tank as the norm. I've basically mimic'd my Warthunder Tank controls on the keyboard, pretty much all functions are a key that I can action with my left hand. Weapons are al…

Kameraden, I've been offline since getting the Butt Kicker Gamer 2, it's been a bit of a process getting it working properly. Finally last night I had a breakthrough after watching a YouTube Video by 2Old4Forsa where he details using Sim Hub and his settings. The biggest single issue, was configuring a second Sound Source NVIDIA HD Audio through my Display Port Cable to my BenQ Monitor. I tried using the supplied splitter supplied with the Butt Kicker Gamer 2, but I was getting feedback in my headset which was awful. Now my headset is on the Sound Card in the computer and the Shaker is on the NVIDIA HD Audio, fine tuning in progress but it's already a big i…

Kameraden, I've been teaching myself the TARGET Programming interface. The goal is to mimic cockpit controls as closely to aircraft as possible and also have it make sense to me. My starting point was excellent work done by NOiD available on the DCS download pages for various aircraft. First goal was using the shift state to open switch covers, then have be able to press the button. So basically, multiple presses of the same button gets it done. Good in Russian aircraft for Gear, Drag Chute and any function with a cover. I've also been working on long press & short press. This allows for same button with three different functions. Working through i…

Since folks may find a new need to use JoyToKey considering the 3dmygoto mod, figured I'd update info from an old thread here. I recently reinstalled JoyToKey and had a LOT of problems getting it working on my rig. Ashamed to say it took hours, all due to a lot of unknown things that I found out the hard way. Here's some easier ways I found that may help others. Problem 1: Can't figure out which joystick shown in JoyToKey is the one that I want to work with. Related: The one I want to work with may not even be one that is shown. Solutions: Starting with the second issue, make sure all joysticks are shown. The default shown will be two, but if yo…

I have been re-thinking my upgrade plans. The problem: Spotting in FC on my old 22" monitor is virtually impossible unless the aircraft is close. I also do wildlife photography and have frequent need to edit photos The resources: My current monitor is fine for photo editing, but too small for FC. I have a gtx 970 video card, fine for photo editing, not for sim-ing. Possible solutions: As discussed in a previous thread, I could get a large TV , but that would have to be swapped in and out with my photo and data editing monitors. (not desireable) I could get a rather pricey 32" Dell ultrasharp monitor that would be fine …
