  1. The Battle of Messines - June 1917 Date: June 13, 1917 17:00hrs Location: Front lines south of Ypres, Flanders. Historical Background: The Battle of Messines (7–14 June 1917) was conducted by the British Second Army (General Sir Herbert Plumer), on the Western Front near the village of Messines in West Flanders, Belgium, during the First World War. The Nivelle Offensive in April and May had failed to achieve its more ambitious aims, had led to the demoralisation of French troops and dislocated the Anglo-French strategy for 1917. The offensive at Messines forced the Germans to move reserves to Flanders from the Arras and Aisne fronts, which relieved pressure on …

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/40697-introducing-the-feedback-feature/ And I just bought a bunch of stuff, too. I guess I’ll save 25% on the duck as it’s the only thing I ain’t got yet Personally I think we should post what we gave them as feedback here so we can let them know as much as possible. I’m messaging them about clouds. Aircraft disappearing in front of clouds, clouds looking like hell, and being able to see explosions/flak through them are major problems they need to address.

Hello everybody. It's been years since I've flown with you guys. Miss doing so with you guys quite a bit. However been dealing with life as a man in his 20s. I haven't had a computer for 2 years because it got hit by lightning. And everything else broke. The trucking industry is full of liars, cheaters, scammers, and dealt with practically a Hitler. But I'm still working toward a trucking company of my own. Also wondering what the teamspeak is ?

Things took a really unexpected turn for me yesterday. Basically, my parents met with me and told me that they would be fine with me returning to flying ROF. This naturally came as quite a (pleasant) shock for me, as when my parents and I decided I should stop flight sims and PC games, I thought that this decision was pretty much set in stone and not subject to change. Now, it's not that my parents brutally swooped in and forced me to give up simming lol. It was a joint decision we made, albeit a very hard one for me. And I still believe it was the right move at that time. Flight sims (plus a whole lot of other PC games) had really gotten a hold on me to the point whe…

  6. Greetings gentlemen, this Sunday's Vintage Mission will feature a new early war map that has only been run once before and has been modified a bit from the original version. Here is the situation: It is a desperate mission in the Sissonne sector that puts the Entente scouts having to destroy trucks and trains just behind the enemy lines as it appears a counter attack is massing after a failed Entente offensive and limited ground attack 2 seaters are available. Two points to pay attention to. 1. "Laser flak" has at long last been eliminated on both sides and over the mud. The machine guns are still there and are a threat, but it isn't suicide to attempt a low …

My current joystick (Cobra M5 Defender) is about to go to the silicon heaven. The spring holding the stick in neutral position gave it up yesterday during evasive moves when P-40 bounced me while I was escorting Etzel's Heinkel. The stick is working in fact but with no centering force I have to hold it in the neutral position by myself. The most hilarious consequence is that I was able to shot down that attacking P-40 anyway and made perfect landing on home airfield (I don't even remember when I made such perfect three-point landing with no bounce in Bf 109 ). So I'm absolutely in for Saturday FiF. I suppose the weekend will be fun as hell Anyway there's my new joys…

  8. Salute gentlemen! After 5 weeks of Jasta 5's epic event, Black September, we are going to keep the "100 years ago today" theme going with this week's Vintage Mission. This Sunday will see over the Somme for an all out bomber offensive. No recons are necessary, however targets are very hard and take large bombs to destroy. Previous versions of this map gave Entente forces too large of an advantage with the powerful Breguet bombers. On this version, we will have limited Breg's. This will make the primary offensive bombers Gothas and Handley-Pages. It is late 1918 and the situation is desperate. September saw the Central forces carry the day, but this…

I just downloaded 1943 Berlin Blitz, which is a 15-minute VR documentary about the "F for Freddie" Lancaster bomber crew. It's free. And you can get it through the Oculus store, or through Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/513490/1943_Berlin_Blitz/ I highly recommend checking it out.

I'm fairly new to VR but I think there may be some adjustments needed in tactics if we are going to be effective when flying in VR (at the current level of sophistication). The most glaring deficiencies when using VR (Flight Lead and Wing in VR) are: Spotting: There are settings that one can implement which greatly alleviate this problem (speaking strictly for BOx here). See this post: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/34266-copypaste-settings- for-best-spotting-rift-and-odyssey-updated/ Checking 6: This is the real bugaboo for me... It'…

  13. https://www.navytimes.com/off-duty/military-culture/2018/08/28/midway-remake-to-start-filming-next-month-on-oahu/ I hadn't heard anything about this movie until today, when I got a message from the Canadian screen actors' union (ACTRA) telling its members not to work on it. The Canadian union got involved because some of it will be shot in Montreal starting next month -- it seems an odd choice of location, but then again I guess this portion of the shoot may be studio work (like the movie '300' which was almost entirely shot in a Montreal studio). Apparently the American union (SAG-AFTRA) has issued a similar notice to its members, because the producers haven't s…

Greetings gentlemen! Felt the need to point this out. Hostilities are set to begin in just two weeks, and as of this posting we have only 15 pilots who have signed up on the BS check in thread. We need to have a good idea of the numbers of participants by next weekend so that we can make any last minute adjustments to the teams if needed. If you haven't already done so, please log into the J5 forum and make a quick post in the thread located HERE. Would appreciate your getting the word out to any of your people that are planning to join us. If there are still some that are having issues with our website or forums, they can PM me here or over on the ROF…

S! All cybermat posted a 12 minute video on RoF forums. It is third post down. Guy sitting in an RE8. It starts out like a documentary but ends up making the Blue Max look faded and pale. Most awesome aerial sequences ever. Holy cow

Kameraden, Tried numerous ways of mounting my MFD's and was not happy with either the position of them or they moved around. The guys at Monster Tech listened to a suggestion I had put forward awhile back and this is the result. and 100% not going anywhere and I can quick release and store to the side as one unit when I do FPS games. You've all heard about this by now. There's a thread on BOS (and probably other Sim forums). Here's what I wrote: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/38897-flight-sim-restrictions/ I do have grudging respect for the guy. He didn't hurt anyone and went out with a spectacular event. I find it hard to find sympathy for the insurance underwriters (they'll just pass the cost on to us anyway).

  22. This Channel has some good videos most of it over my head but there are 4 or 5 that explain it the best they can for the everyday person. The rest of the videos delve into the math behind it. Those where too much for me. Here is a good place to start.
