Just a heads up, in case anybody is looking for more storage space. Amazon currently has some mad discounts on the Samsung 970 Evo range of M.2 SSD's. The 1Tb stick is currently 50% off, at £120 with the 500Gb only £69.99. For their performance it's pretty nuts how cheap they are. I just snagged the 500Gb one, as I can't even install half my modules atm because of a lack of SSD space! I can finally get the Syria map!

I've just logged in to ED forums to find that I'd been permanently banned. After the initial shock and disbelief I Googled it and found out that there's been a major server issue on ED's part. All you need to do to fix this is log out and back in again. https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/english/customer-support/forum-and-site-issues/7142217-re-login-for-fix-you-have-been-permanently-banned#post7142296

There's a lot of otherwise intelligent humans out there that allow themselves to look like drooling morons because they don't know how to operate the apostrophe to standard. https://www.wikihow.com/Use-Apostrophes I'm on a mission to civilize.

So recently I remember my grandfather’s best friend and next door neighbor flew P38s and P39s in the war. His name was Joseph B. Maley. He was a part of the 32nd Air Operations “the spitting wolfhounds.” So I started diving deep into Internet searching and to my surprise, I found an AWESOME picture of him posing on his P38 “Shanty Irish”. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with finding markings or paint colors? Seeing I only have one black and white photo, I feel like there’ll be a lot of guessing. But would love to recreate it and fly it in his honor. I feel bad that I was too young at the time to really appreciate talking to him and can only wish to be able to pi…

It's no secret for my love towards my rotary and radial powerplants. From Dreidecker, Camel, FW190, and now my all time favorite p47 razorback! So I was looking at the calendar for the squadron to make sure i didn't interfere with anything... and was wondering if anyone would be interested in flying some BIG AMERICAN MUSCLE on Sundays after 9pm Est? P.S. i painted my p47's after the 56th FS (later split into the 61st,62nd, and 63rd) which trained in my hometown airfield and patrolled New York/ New England airspace until shipped on the boat over the pond.

Today is a sad day in aviation - the classic "whomp, whomp, whomp" of two-bladed Cobras is no more, the Marine Corps retired the AH-1W today. https://news.bellflight.com/en-US/192399-united-states-marines-retire-bell-ah-1w-after-34-years-of-service

Looks like we are witnessing the dawn of a new era in fighter aviation... Not that I'm too enthusiastic about optionally manned weapon systems. https://theaviationist.com/2020/09/15/the-u-s-air-force-has-secretly-built-and-flown-a-full-scale-demonstrator-of-its-next-generation-fighter/ https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/36431/the-u-s-air-force-has-flown-a-demonstrator-for-its-next-generation-fighter?fbclid=IwAR1zPIQFL6cwsS7cK3gFEChxWN5IHfiTirC7pYoK9hopIL4JWn5S70xZnkM

Hi guys! What do you mind to join Adler Legion in small event in ROF this Friday? Do you miss WWI heavy bombers and adequate DM? In short, the event is dedicated to Gothas and their historic raids on cities in England. Several Gothas take off from the mainland and fly to Dover to bomb strategically important targets such as the port infrastructure, railway station, etc. The port is protected by small Entente fighter forces and flaks. We flew this event in December 2017 and it was quite interesting. Having the stupid situation with DM in the Flying Circus, all our pilots, without exception, jumped back into the ROF and decided to gather in such chamber even…

Is anyone playing this? I picked it up today out of curiosity, and an itch that needed scratching for those old X-Wing vs TIE Fighter games. So far it's been bloody good fun, although I feel like there could be some performance improvements. Frame rate feels half of what it should be, like the renderer is only pushing to 60 FPS or something despite running 144mhz refresh. Optimisation issues aside, it's pretty faithful in many ways to the older games... although not perfect by any means. My biggest gripe, is that there's no Track IR support... despite it being able to fully support VR. Seems odd to have VR but no headtracking.

Today, 3 October 1990, marks the 30th anniversary of German reunification. Germans celebrate this date as Tag der Deutschen Einheit (Day of German Unity). I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all the best to our German colleagues. Herzlichen Glückwunsch! I also prepared something truly special for everyone to enjoy. Ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome... THE HOFF! I'm not even sorry.

It looks like skins from FC can be ported to ROF just by copying the skin into the appropriate folder. I did this with my Alb skin and it worked without modification. There were two drawbacks however: The colors as rendered by ROF were much brighter than they appear in FC. I had to reduce the overall luminosity of the .dds considerably to get the colors I had seen in FC. Also, ROF may not be able to handle the effects of the alpha channel from FC. On my skin, areas of high reflectivity appear as holes in the skin. It is noticeable up close, but to me it didn't appear significant in the air. This would probably be fixable with a little work on the …

With the talk about the Gotha scenario, I went back and made sure that my ROF installation still works and flew a few missions. Is it my imagination or is the AI in ROF way better than the AI in FC? Sure seemed that way last night (not that they killed me, they just took more work 😁) I know the sounds and visuals are much better in FC, but I sure do miss those old planes.

Both with the flight simulator and the racing simulator (JG1RT) - the main advantage is that hundreds of hours of rebuild work never result in a car packing up mid-event or an Aircraft losing power or having a major systems failure mid-flight. I think I'll stick to the squadron flyouts going forward since the real machines are rejecting my guiding touch so firmly! 😁😅 Edit: Also the water temp gauge only starts at 140F - 60C. So I can't call 4-0 Charlie when warming up the race car - it disappoints me greatly.

Hi Mates, Just wanted to point out, that the never ending issue of aircraft spotting actually is boiled up again at in the IL2-Forum: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/64680-discussion-on-the-plane-visibility-issue/ So far I did not even read through the Opening Posting of Han, not talking about the 11 Pages of ongoing discussions. But there is also a blog entry by shamrockonefive in his blog: https://stormbirds.blog/2020/08/22/il-2-devs-talk-spotting-in-great-battles/ ..and that one I did read through and I agree by 100% with his experience on that topic and on his conclusions. For me the spotting ability still is the absolute main factor when…

S! I wanted to post in here for mainly the purposes of a question as a newer squad member: however I see this could also potentially branch out into a discussion if we wanted to with some of the more experience members! To preface - as I'm newer to the squadron after a period of flight-sim absence, I have the earlier IL:2 modules from Stalingrad to Kuban/Moscow, but none of the "late war" Modules such as Bodenplatte or Normandy. I've noticed a bit of discussion about things like re-shade not being required in the New IL:2 Cliffs of Dover - Tobruk module, as the plane-pop/distance scouting issue is apparently not present and/or not as large on the older modules. …
